Notice to Mariners No. 62 of 1924.

THE following Notices to Mariners, which have been received from the Hydrographic Office, London, and the Department of Ports and Harbours, Melbourne, are published for general information.

ENGLAND, EAST COAST.—RIVER THAMES, SEA REACH.
West Shoebury Buoy.—Alteration in Position.
New Position.—At a distance of about one cable southward of charted position and at a distance of 1·56 miles 206° from St. Andrew’s Church, Shoeburyness. Lat. 51° 30′ N., long. 0° 46′ E. (approx.).
Description.—A black conical buoy marked “W. Shoebury.”
Remarks.—The alteration in position of this buoy is in consequence of a slight extension to the southwards of Maplin sand.
WALES, SOUTH COAST.—BRISTOL CHANNEL.
Lavernock Point.—Shoals South-westward of.
(a.) Position.—At a distance of 2·34 miles 291° from Flatholm Lighthouse. Lat. 51° 23′ N., long. 3° 10′ W. (approx.).
Depth.—3 fathoms (5m5).
(b.) Position.—At a distance of 2·35 miles 289½° from Flatholm Lighthouse.
Depth.—1½ fathoms (2m7), sand.
(c.) Position.—At a distance of 2·32 miles 289° from Flatholm Lighthouse.
Depth.—2¾ fathoms (5m0).
Remarks.—The above depths form one shoal and are to be encircled by the same 3 fathom (5m5) line. The depths of 5¼ fathoms (9m6), 5 fathoms (9m1), and 6 fathoms (11m0), shown in approximately positions (a), (b), and (c) respectively, are to be expunged from Chart No. 1182, together with the 7 fathom (12m8) depth shown close south-westward of (b).
(d.) Position.—Close southward of (c), at a distance of 2·30 miles 288° from Flatholm Lighthouse.
Depth.—3¾ fathoms (6m9).
Remarks.—The 5 fathom (9m1) line is to be extended to the southward to encircle this depth.
CENTRAL AMERICA, PACIFIC COAST.—PANAMA, ISLAS PERLAS.
(1.) Saboga.—Shoal Water reported Westward of.
Position.—At a distance of about 6½ miles westward of southern point of Saboga Island. Lat. 8° 36′ 00″ N., long. 79° 11′ 00″ W., on Chart No. 2261.
Details.—This position is to be encircled by a danger line on the charts and marked “Shoal water reported (1924).” This shoal was reported by a seaplane.
(2.) St. Elmo Bay Entrance.—Existence of Rock.
Position.—At a distance of about 2⅔ miles eastward of Punta Cocos. Lat. 8° 12′ 35″ N., long. 78° 52′ 05″ W., on chart No. 2261.
Details.—The symbol for a rock with a depth of less than 6 ft. (1m8) is to be inserted on the charts in this position. This rock, which is about one cable in extent, was located by U.S.S. “Fulton.”
MEXICO, PACIFIC COAST.—LOWER CALIFORNIA.
Alijos Rocks.—Amended Position.
Amended Position.—At a distance of about 4 miles eastward of charted position. Lat. 24° 57′ 12″ N., long. 115° 45′ 18″ W., on plan quoted below and on chart No. 2323.
Details.—The above position, which is that of South Rock, is reported by U.S. Surveying Vessel “Pioneer.” The latitude and longitude given in the title of the plan is to be amended accordingly.
SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.—SAMOA ISLANDS.
Apolima Strait.—Caution.
Position on Chart.—Apolima Island. Lat. 13° 49′ S., long. 172° 09′ W. (approx.).
Details.—The following cautionary note concerning the positions of the islets in Apolima Strait is to be inserted on the chart. The existing note “The channel between Manono and Apolima is reported to be foul” is to be retained :—
CAUTION.
Owing to the imperfect nature of survey, the positions of the islets in Apolima Strait are not to be relied upon (1924).
VICTORIA.—NAVIGATION OF PORT PHILLIP ENTRANCE.
Wreck of s.s. “Wyrallah.”
Referring to Notices to Mariners No. 4 of 9th April, 1924, No. 5 of 11th April, 1924, and No. 9 of 5th June, 1924, relating to wreck of s.s. “Wyrallah,” mariners and others are hereby notified that the wreck has been demolished, and the channel to the eastward of the Obelisk and the High Light open for navigation as previous to the wreck.
The sector of the red light shown from the Low Lighthouse, Queenscliff, over the dangers of Point Nepean has been moved eastward to its original bearing of N. 24° E. mag.
Lonsdale Rock.
Referring to General Notice to Mariners dated 20th June, 1918, page 63, the pinnacle rock with 18 ft. of water over it has been removed during the blasting of fairway, and the least depth of water over the Lonsdale Rock is now 22 ft.
Alteration of Tide Signals.
Referring to General Notice to Mariners dated 20th June, 1918, page 64, mariners and others are hereby notified that on or about 1st November, 1924, the night signals referring to direction of stream through the fairway will be altered.
The following lights will be exhibited from Point Lonsdale Lighthouse below the main lights :—
Flood Tide : One fixed green light.
Ebb Tide : One fixed red light.

Native Township Lands for Sale by Public Auction.
NOTICE is hereby given, in terms of the Native Townships Act, 1910, and the Native Land Act, 1909, and the regulations thereunder, that the lands described in the Schedule hereto will be offered for sale by public auction by Messrs Carmichael and Company, at their rooms in Queen Street, Levin, on Tuesday, 7th October, 1924, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. The terms and conditions appurtenant to the sale may be inspected at the office of the Ikaroa District Maori Land Board, Ballance Street, Wellington, and at the office of the Auctioneers.
