THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

in this behalf, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby declare that on and after the date of this Order in Council the public highways mentioned in the Schedule hereto shall be main highways within the meaning and for the purpose of the Main Highways Act, 1922.
SCHEDULE.
HIGHWAY DISTRICT No. 17.
DUNEDIN–INVERCARGILL: All that portion of the road known as the Dunedin–Invercargill Road, commencing at the western boundary of the City of Dunedin and proceeding thence generally in a south-westerly and north-westerly direction via Green Island, Allanton, Henley, Waihola, Clarendon, Milton, Clarksville, Balclutha, Clinton, Waipahi, Arthurton, and terminating at the western boundary of the County of Clutha, passing through the Counties of Taieri, Bruce, and Clutha, but excluding those portions of the roads in the Boroughs of Green Island, Milton, and Balclutha, being a distance of 80 miles 40 chains, more or less.
Mosgiel Junction – Middlemarch: All that road known as the Mosgiel Junction – Middlemarch Road, commencing at its junction with the Dunedin–Invercargill Road near Mosgiel, and proceeding thence generally in a north-westerly and northerly direction via Mosgiel, Outram, Clarkes, Sutton, and terminating at the post-office, Middlemarch, passing through the County of Taieri, but excluding that portion within the Borough of Mosgiel, being a distance of thirty-nine miles, more or less.
Clarksville–Clyde: All that portion of the road known as the Clarksville–Clyde Road, commencing at its junction with the Dunedin–Invercargill Road at Clarksville and proceeding thence generally in a north-westerly direction via Glenore, Waitahuna, Lawrence, Beaumont, Rae’s Junction, Ettrick, Roxburgh, Coal Creek, and terminating at the southern boundary of the County of Vincent, passing through the Counties of Bruce and Tuapeka, but excluding those portions of road in the Boroughs of Lawrence and Roxburgh, being a distance of seventy-one miles, more or less.
Rae’s Junction – Edievale: All that road known as the Rae’s Junction – Edievale Road commencing at its junction with the Clarksville–Clyde Road at Rae’s Junction and proceeding thence generally in a westerly direction, terminating at the post-office, Edievale, passing through the County of Tuapeka, being a distance of 6 miles 40 chains, more or less.
As the said public highways are more particularly delineated on the plan marked M.H. 40, deposited in the office of the Main Highways Board at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon coloured blue.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in him by section three of the Main Highways Act, 1922, and of all other powers in anywise enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby declare that on and after the date of this Order in Council the public highways mentioned in the Schedule hereto shall be main highways within the meaning and for the purpose of the Main Highways Act, 1922.
SCHEDULE.
HIGHWAY DISTRICT No. 18.
INVERCARGILL–DUNEDIN: All that portion of the road known as the Invercargill–Dunedin Road, commencing at the northern boundary of the Borough of Invercargill and proceeding thence generally in a north-easterly direction via Kennington, Dacre, Edendale, Mataura, Gore, McNab, Pukerau, and terminating at the eastern boundary of the County of Southland, passing through the County of Southland, but excluding those portions of the road in the Boroughs of Mataura and Gore, being a distance of thirty-nine miles, more or less.
Invercargill–Bluff: All that portion of the road known as the Invercargill–Bluff Road, commencing at the southern boundary of the Borough of Invercargill and proceeding thence generally in a southerly direction via Woodend, Greenhills, and terminating at the western boundary of the Borough of Bluff, passing through the County of Southland, being a distance of seventeen miles, more or less.
Edendale–Wyndham: All that road known as the Edendale–Wyndham Road, commencing at its junction with the Invercargill–Dunedin Road at Edendale and proceeding thence generally in an easterly direction, and terminating at the post-office, Wyndham, passing through the County of Southland, being a distance of three miles, more or less.
Kennington–Waikawa: All that road known as the Kennington–Waikawa Road, commencing at its junction with the Invercargill–Dunedin Road at Kennington and proceeding thence generally in a south-easterly direction via Seaward Downs, Waimahaka, Fortrose, Tokanui, Niagara, and terminating at the post-office, Waikawa, passing through the County of Southland, being a distance of fifty-six miles, more or less.
Edendale–Seaward Downs: All that road known as the Edendale–Seaward Downs Road, commencing at its junction with the Invercargill–Dunedin Road at Edendale and proceeding thence generally in a southerly direction to its junction with the Kennington–Waikawa Road at Seaward Downs, passing through the County of Southland, being a distance of five miles, more or less.
McNab–Edievale Road: All that road known as the McNab–Edievale Road, commencing at its junction with the Invercargill–Dunedin Road at McNab, proceeding thence generally in a northerly direction via Waikaka, and terminating at the eastern boundary of the County of Southland, passing through the County of Southland, being a distance of fifteen miles, more or less.
Gore–Te Anau: All that portion of the road known as the Gore–Te Anau Road, commencing at the northern boundary of the Borough of Gore and proceeding thence generally in a north-westerly direction via Mandeville, Riversdale, Lumsden, Castlerock, Mosssburn, and terminating at the Key, passing through the Counties of Southland and Wallace, being a distance of sixty-nine miles, more or less.
Invercargill–Riverton: All that road known as the Invercargill–Riverton Road, commencing at the northern boundary of the Borough of Invercargill and proceeding thence generally in a north-westerly direction via Lorne, Argyle, and terminating at the eastern boundary of the Borough of Riverton, passing through the Counties of Southland and Wallace, being a distance of twenty-four miles, more or less.
Lorne–Castlerock: All that road known as the Lorne–Castlerock Road, commencing at its junction with the Invercargill–Riverton Road at Lorne, and proceeding thence generally in a northerly direction via Winton, Limehills, Dipton East, Dipton, and terminating at its junction with the Gore–Te Anau Road at Castlerock near Lumsden, passing through the Counties of Southland and Wallace, but excluding that portion of the road in the Borough of Winton, being a distance of forty-six miles, more or less.
Mataura–Winton: All that road known as the Mataura–Winton Road, commencing at its junction with the Invercargill–Dunedin Road near Mataura and proceeding thence generally in a westerly direction via Hedgehope, and terminating at the eastern boundary of the Borough of Winton, passing through the County of Southland, being a distance of thirty miles, more or less.
Winton–Ohai: All that road known as the Winton–Ohai Road, commencing at its junction with the Lorne–Castlerock Road near Winton and proceeding thence generally in a north-westerly direction via Wreys Bush, Nightcaps, and terminating at the Ngaro and Birchwood Road junction, passing through the Counties of Southland and Wallace, being a distance of twenty-two miles, more or less.
Argyle–Tuatapere (via Otatau): All that road known as the Argyle–Tuatapere (via Otatau) Road, commencing at its junction with the Invercargill–Riverton Road near Argyle and proceeding thence generally in a north-westerly direction via Otatau, Raymond’s Gap, and terminating at the Railway-station, Tuatapere, passing through the Counties of Southland and Wallace, being a distance of forty miles, more or less.
Riversdale–Waikaia: All that portion of the road known as the Riversdale–Waikaia Road, commencing at its junction with the Gore–Te Anau Road at Riversdale, and proceeding thence generally in a northerly direction, and terminating at the post-office, Waikaia, passing through the County of Southland, being a distance of fourteen miles, more or less.
Riverton–Otatau: All that road known as the Riverton–Otatau Road, commencing at its junction with the Invercargill–Riverton Road near Riverton and proceeding thence generally in a northerly direction via Fairfax and Otatau
