Proclaiming the Borough of Wanganui to be a City.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS a petition has been received from the Mayor, Councillors, and Burgesses of the Borough of Wanganui, praying that the said borough be proclaimed a city under the provisions of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1920 :

And whereas the population of the said borough is not less than twenty thousand :

And whereas it is desirable that effect should be given to the said petition :

Now, therefore, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section one hundred and thirty of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1920, do hereby proclaim the Borough of Wanganui to be a city as on and from the first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-four.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, and issued under the Seal of that Dominion, this 9th day of June, 1924.

Directing Preparation of Valuation List, Borough of Wanganui.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by Proclamation of His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, made pursuant to the provisions in that behalf contained in the Municipal Corporations Act, 1920, on the twenty-fifth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-four, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the twenty-seventh day of March, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-four, Number 17, at page 734, the districts of the Borough of Wanganui and the Town Boards of Gonville and Castlecliff duly constituted under the Municipal Corporations Act, 1920, and the Town Boards Act, 1908, respectively, were constituted one united borough from the first day of April, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-four, under the name of the Borough of Wanganui :

And whereas the boundaries of the said Borough of Wanganui so constituted as aforesaid are set out in the Schedule to the said Proclamation :

And whereas the system of rating on the annual value under the Rating Act, 1908, was in force in the Borough of Wanganui as constituted prior to the issue of the said Proclamation :

And whereas the system of rating on the unimproved value under the Rating Act, 1908, was in force in the Gonville Town Board District prior to the issue of the said Proclamation :

And whereas the system of rating on the capital value under the Rating Act, 1908, was in force in the Castlecliff Town District prior to the issue of the said Proclamation :

And whereas the provisions of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1920, relating to the union of two or more boroughs, extend and apply with the necessary modifications to the case of the union of one or more boroughs with one or more town districts :

And whereas it is provided by the Rating Amendment Act, 1910, that on the union of two or more boroughs the rating system in force in the borough having the largest population shall, in the absence of any agreement to the contrary made between the Councils of the united borough be observed throughout the united borough :

And whereas no such agreement to the contrary has been made :

And whereas the Borough of Wanganui as constituted prior to the issue of the said Proclamation of the said twenty-fifth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-four, had the largest population :

And whereas it is necessary that a valuation list for the Borough of Wanganui as constituted by the said Proclamation of the twenty-fifth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-four, should be prepared, and that the various times prescribed in the making and preparation of such list by the Rating Act, 1908, should be extended in manner hereinafter appearing.
