Result of Poll for Proposed Loans.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Council of the Borough of Takapuna, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

BOROUGH OF TAKAPUNA.

Result of Poll.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, and its amendments, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Takapuna, taken on the 11th day of December, 1923, on the proposals of the Takapuna Borough Council to borrow the sums set out against the several works as stated hereunder, the number of votes recorded in respect of each proposal was as follows :—

Proposal No. 1: Sewage.—Provision, construction, and laying of sewers, tanks, outfalls, and drainage-works constituting sewage systems within the Borough of Takapuna, including the acquisition of land necessary for the purposes of the said works and payment of compensation for land purchased or taken and for land injuriously affected, £101,000; and provision of funds for advances to ratepayers for connections to the said system under section 228 of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1908, £5,000: the sum of £106,000,—

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 703; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 60; informal, 31.

Proposal No. 2: Street-works.—(a.) Widening and supporting Marine Parade and construction and improvement of Marine Parade, King Edward Avenue, Victoria Road, Lake Road, Hurstmere Road, Kitchener Road, Shakespeare Road, Taharoto Road, Anzac Street, the Terrace and East Coast Road, and kerbing, channelling, forming footpaths, and provision of improved storm-water drainage for the said streets, £68,700; (b) purchase of machinery and plant required in connection with the said work, £3,800; (c) acquisition by purchase or taking with compensation of land within the borough for the purpose of quarry-sites, £2,500: the sum of £75,000,—

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 586; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 171; informal, 37.

Proposal No. 3: Waterworks.—Purchase, construction, extension, and improvement of water mains and pipes, and waterworks and appliances necessary thereto, within the Borough of Takapuna, the sum of £25,000,—

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 699; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 62; informal, 33.

Proposal No. 4: Fire-fighting Appliances.—(a) Purchase of a fire-engine, appliances, and equipment for extinguishing fires, £825; (b) provision and installation of a fire-alarm system within the Borough of Takapuna, £1,175; (c) erection and equipment with necessary furniture, appliances, and equipment of a building for use as a fire station, £500: the sum of £2,500,—

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 675; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 84; informal, 35.

Proposal No. 5: Park.—Acquisition of Lots 70, 71, 72, and 73, of Allotment 84, of Section 1, Parish of Takapuna, the sum of £2,200,—

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 470; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 264; informal, 60.

I therefore declare that all the above proposals were carried.

BOROUGH OF WHANGAREI.

Whangarei East (over the Hatea River) Special-rating District.—Result of Loan Proposals.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Whangarei East (over the Hatea River) Special-rating District, taken on the 5th day of December, 1923, on the proposal of the Whangarei Borough Council to borrow the sum of £2,200 for widening and improving the streets enumerated in the Schedule hereto, by expending on each street the amount set opposite thereto in the said Schedule, including engineering and insurance fees :—

Schedule.—Portland Road, £700; Punga Grove and Gayfield Street, £450; Dundas Road, £350; Ewings Road, £350; Dundonald Road, £100; Pah Road, £50; first year’s interest and sinking-fund charges and cost of raising loan, £200: £2,200.

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 18; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 11; informal, 2.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Results of Loan Proposals.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Whangarei was taken on the 5th day of December, 1923, on the proposal of the Whangarei Borough Council to borrow the following loans, and that the number of votes recorded in the case of each proposal was as follows :—

No. 1 Loan.—For enlarging and extending the water-main reticulation of the borough, including the following streets: Hatea Street, Henry Street, James Street, Keyte Street, Mains Avenue, Maunu Road, Parua Bay Road (from James Street to the borough boundary), and the side streets branching from the Parua Bay Road, including engineering and insurance fees, £8,200,—

For the proposal, 237; against the proposal, 73; informal, 13.

No. 2 Loan.—For financing drainage installations and for sewer-service connections, £2,200,—

For the proposal, 240; against the proposal, 72; informal, 11.

No. 3 Loan.—For construction of road alongside railway-line from Manse Street to Powhiri Avenue, including purchase of land, legal survey, and engineering fees, £1,900; for widening, metalling, and improving the Parua Bay Road from Victoria Bridge to the borough boundary, including engineering fees, £3,300: £5,200,—

For the proposal, 205; against the proposal, 108; informal, 10.

No. 4 Loan.—For erection of electricity workshop and store, and extension of electricity and street-lighting mains, reticulation, including the following streets: Maunu Road, Morningside Road, Otaika Road, Parua Bay Road, and Portland Road, including engineering and insurance fees, £6,500—

For the proposal, 226; against the proposal, 86; informal, 11.

No. 5 Loan.—For constructing Cameron Street in concrete, including engineering and insurance fees, £6,450,—

For the proposal, 121; against the proposal, 193; informal, 9.

I therefore declare that proposals Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 4 were carried, and that proposal No. 5 was rejected.
