Hastings-Maraekakaho Road in a south-easterly direction to
the Te Aute Road; thence along the said road in an easterly
direction to its junction with the Mount Erin Road; thence
along the said road to Gilpin Road, following along that road
to the south-east corner of Havelock Town District; thence
westerly along the boundary of the said town district to the
Te Mata Road; thence along the said road to its junction
with the Tukituki River; thence across the said river to its
eastern bank; thence along the said bank to its junction
with the south-eastern boundary of the Clive Suburban Area;
then along the said boundary to its junction with the Marae-
totara Stream; thence along the said stream to its mouth.
Kapiti Area.—All that land included in Block III of Kapiti
Survey District, and also Kapiti Island.
Wairarapa Area.—All that area in the Wellington Land
District bounded by a line commencing at the intersection
of western Lake Road and Bocketts Creek, and proceeding
thence north-easterly along the said Western Lake Road to
Boat Creek, near Pigeon Bush; thence up that creek, cross-
ing the railway reserve, to a point twenty chains distant
from the said railway reserve; thence generally north-
easterly by a line parallel to and twenty chains distant from
the railway reserve to the Ruamahanga River; thence
following the Ruamahanga River southward to its junction
with the Kahautara Road; thence in a direct line to the
point of commencement.
Nelson Area.—All that area in the Nelson Land District
commencing at the mouth of the Otuwhero River in Tasman
Bay, and thence bounded by the said bay, the estuary of the
Waimea River, Tasman Bay, and Nelson Haven to the south-
west corner of Section 4, Block V, Wakapuaka Survey Dis-
trict; thence by the Nelson-Blenheim Road to the road
forming the north-west boundary of Section 24 in Block VI
of the said survey district; by that road, by Section 77,
by Sections 33 and 4 in Block VI before mentioned, by
Sections 15 and 18 in Block X, Wakapuaka Survey District,
and by Sections 48, 64, 45, 46, 50, 24, 25, and 28, all in
Block IX of the said survey district, and the production of
the last-named boundary to the Maitai River; by that river
to the western boundary of Section 31 in Block I, Maunga-
tapu Survey District; thence bounded by Sections 31, 2,
18, 28, 26, part 4, and 22, all in Block I last mentioned;
by Section 14 (waterworks reserve) to the road near Trig. J,
by the said river, over Trigs. GB and G, and by the Aniseed
Valley Road to the Roading River; thence by the said
river, by the Wairoa River to Section 8 in Block XIII of
the Waimea Survey District; thence by Sections 8, 67, 63,
and 64 in Block XIII of the last-mentioned survey district,
and by Section 9 in Block I, Rintoul Survey District; by Sec-
tions 3, 1, 6, and 18 in Block IV, Gordon Survey District,
and by Sections 3 and 4 in Block VIII of the said survey
district; thence by a road, a line across a road, by the south-
east boundary of Section 63, a line across a road, by the
south-east boundaries of Sections 5 and 60, and by the
southern boundaries of Sections 60 and 3, all in Block VII,
Gordon Survey District; thence by part of the eastern
boundary and by the southern boundary of Section 27 in
Block VI of the said survey district, by a road to and by the
south-east boundary of Section 43 in Block X, Gordon Survey
District, to Gordon's Creek; thence by the said creek and by
the Motueka River to and by the north boundary of Sec-
tion 2 in Block V, Gordon Survey District; thence by Small
Grazing-run 6, by a road, by Sections 11 and 10 in Block IX
of the said survey district; by Section 22 in Block XII,
Tadmor Survey District, by Brewerton Creek, by Sections
17 and 73 in the said Block XII, to the Motupiko River;
thence by a line across that river to the north-east corner of
Section 2 in the last-mentioned Block XII; by that section

Opening Lands in Gisborne Land District for Sale or Selection.
JELLICOE, Governor-General.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John
Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the
Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare and provide
as follows, that is to say:—

The rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto are
hereby set apart for disposal by way of sale or selection on
Wednesday, the ninth day of July, one thousand nine hundred
and twenty-four, at the respective prices specified in the said
Schedule, and shall be deemed to be “heavy-bush lands.” -
The said lands may be purchased for cash, or be selected
for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease. -
After the first half-year's rent has been paid by the
selector the further instalments of rent payable by him for a
period of four years shall not be demanded; provided that if
at any time during the first five years of his occupancy the
selector disposes of his interest in the land, the rent so con-
ceded shall be paid by him in full, and thereupon the Land
Board may remit such instalments of rent payable by the
incoming tenant, not exceeding in the aggregate the amount
of rent previously conceded to the selector, as the Board
shall think fit.
SCHEDULE.
GISBORNE LAND DISTRICT.—OPOTIKI COUNTY.—UREWERA SURVEY DISTRICT.
Third-class Land.
(Exempt from Rent for Four Years.)
SECTION 6, Block IV: Area, 1,266 acres 1 rood 24 perches.
Capital value, £1,280. Occupation with right of purchase:
Half-yearly rent, £32. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent,
£25 12s.
Section 1, Block VIII: Area, 853 acres. Capital value,
£860. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent,
£21 10s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £17 4s.
Section 2, Block XII: Area, 1,202 acres 0 roods 35 perches.
Capital value, £1,200. Occupation with right of purchase:
Half-yearly rent, £30. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent,
£24.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION.
These sections, comprising part of the Urewera Block, are
situated in the valley of the Tauranga River, distant from
thirty-four to forty miles from Opotiki by good dray road,
twenty-two miles of which is metalled.
The Main Road up the valley of the Waimana and Tauranga
Rivers has been constructed to the southernmost section, and
will ultimately form a main line of communication between
the Bay of Plenty and the East Coast.
The nature of the country is generally hilly and broken,
with small areas of river-flat and of easy undulating country.
The soil is mostly of fair quality on pumice overlying clay,
slate, or sandstone formation. The sections are all in heavy
bush, comprising principally tawa, tawhero, rata, hinau,
rimu, with some scattered totara, kahikatea, matai, and miro
in parts. The undergrowth is heavy, and includes raurekau,
nikau, punga, supplejack, mahoe, and water-fern. The
altitude ranges between 800 ft. and 3,000 ft. above sea-level.
All the sections are well supplied with water by streams.
Section 6, Block IV, Urewera Survey District: 1,266 acres
1 rood 24 perches.—Sixteen miles from Waimana Post-office
by formed wagon-road, four miles of which is metalled. About
35 acres flat and terraces, of which 10 acres is open, in grass.
Balance broken hill country, covered with heavy forest.
Pumiceous soil on clay, slate, and rubble formation. Bush
of tawa, hinau, rata, rimu, tawhero, tawai (on ridges), with
undergrowth of mahoe, horopito, raurekau, makomako, &c.
Well watered by streams. Altitude, 500 ft. to 3,000 ft.
Section 1, Block VIII, Urewera Survey District: 853 acres.
—Eighteen miles from Waimana by formed wagon-road, four
miles of which is metalled. 20 acres flat, 12 of which is in
grass, balance broken spurs running from central ridge.
Pumiceous soil on clay, slate, and rubble formation. Bush
principally tawa, with few rimu, tawhero, totara, and tawhai
(on ridges); undergrowth of mahoe, raurekau, makomako, &c.
Well watered. Altitude, 500 ft. to 2,800 ft.
Section 2, Block XII, Urewera Survey District: 1,202 acres
0 roods 25 perches.—Situated twenty-two miles from Wai-
mana by formed wagon-road, four miles of which is metalled.
About 60 acres river terraces, the balance broken hill country.
Pumiceous soil on sandstone formation. All covered heavy
bush of tawa, tawhero, with few rimu and matai, under-
growth of punga, mahoe, raurekau, &c. Well watered.
Altitude, 800 ft. to 3,000 ft.
