ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House at Wellington, this 20th day of August, 1923.

WHEREAS by section nine of the Mining Act, 1908, it is enacted that the Governor-General may from time to time, by Order in Council, appoint fit persons to be Wardens, who shall hold office during the Governor-General’s pleasure: Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred by the said section nine of the Mining Act, 1908, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby appoint
Herbert Percival Lawry, Esq.,
to be a Warden, to hold and exercise the duties of such office under and subject to the provisions of the said Act during pleasure, on and from the first day of September, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-three.

Notice of Change of the Purpose of Portion of a Reserve in the Borough of Ashburton, Canterbury Land District.
JELLICOE, Governor-General.
WHEREAS by section six of the Public Reserves and Domains Act, 1908 (hereinafter referred to as “the said Act”), the Governor-General is empowered, in the case of any public reserve vested in His Majesty or the Governor-General for any of the purposes comprised in Class II of the Second Schedule to the said Act, to change the purpose for which such reserve was set apart to any other purpose: And whereas the land described in the Schedule hereto forms portion of a reserve duly set apart for railway-conservation purposes, being a purpose within Class II of the Second Schedule to the said Act, and it is expedient to change, as hereinafter provided, the purpose of such portion: Now, therefore, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby, in pursuance of the powers conferred on me by section six of the said Act as aforesaid, declare that the portion of the reserve described in the Schedule hereto is hereby changed from a reserve for railway-conservation purposes to a reserve for the development of water-power (Lake Coleridge scheme). And I do hereby further declare that this notice is issued subject to the provisions of section seven of the said Act, and shall take effect according to the provisions of that section.
SCHEDULE.
ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District, containing by admeasurement 1 acre 2 roods, more or less, and being Reserve No. 4073 (formerly part of Reserve 1923), situated in the Borough of Ashburton. Commencing at a point on the north-western end of Dobson Street, the same being distant 86·3 links from the most western corner of the said street; thence bounded by other part of said Reserve 1923 by lines bearing 290° 11′ 30″, 250 links, 19° 41′ 30″, 569·7 links, 96° 34′, 256·7 links; and towards the south-east by part of Kermode and Dobson Streets and a closed road, now Reserve 772x, 630·3 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less. As the same is delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 22/3344, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon bordered red.

Opening Settlement Lands in Wellington Land District for Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1908, and amendments, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the settlement lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Monday, the twenty-ninth day of October, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-three, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Acts.
SCHEDULE.
WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT.—SETTLEMENT LAND.—FIRST-CLASS LAND.
Hutt County.—Belmont Survey District.—Normandale Settlement.
SECTIONS 45, 47, 48, 49, Block VIII; Area, 140 acres 0 roods 9 perches; capital value, £1,250; half-yearly rent, £28 2s. 6d.; interest and sinking fund, £15 3s.*
- Half-yearly instalment of principal and interest on six-roomed house valued at £300; to be paid for in cash, or in fourteen years by twenty-eight half-yearly instalments of £15 3s. Total half-yearly payments on lease, £43 5s. 6d. Also valuation for 130 chains of fencing, valued at £130, to be paid in cash on approval of application.
Situated about two miles from Lower Hutt Railway-station by good metalled road. About 100 acres ploughable when cleared of gorse, balance easy hilly ground. Soil is of good quality, resting on clay and rotten-rock formation; well watered by small streams. Altitude, 450 ft. to 900 ft.
Hutt County.—Rimutaka Survey District.—Neligan Settlement.
Section 1, Block V: Area, 325 acres 0 roods 21 perches; capital value, £1,893; half-yearly rent, £42 12s.; interest and sinking fund, £21 9s.*
- Half-yearly instalment of principal and interest on buildings (dwelling, cow-shed, stable, dairy, washhouse) valued at £550, which will have to be paid for in cash, or in twenty-one years by forty-two half-yearly payments of £21 9s. Total half-yearly payments on lease, £64 1s.
Situated about three miles from Silverstream Railway-station by good metalled road. About 60 acres flat; balance all hilly, of which 140 acres are in standing bush. Soil is of good quality, resting on clay formation; well watered by streams and springs. Altitude, 900 ft. to 1,300 ft.
Special Condition.—The lessee will be required to pay royalty at the following rates to the Receiver of Land Revenue, Wellington, on all timber sold from this section: 2s. 6d. per cord for firewood, 10s. per hundred for posts, 2s. per hundred superficial feet for strainers.
Ekatahuna County.—Mangaone Survey District.—Hill Settlement.
Section 1, Block IX: Area, 98 acres 3 roods 11 perches; capital value, £1,380; half-yearly rent, £31 1s.; interest and sinking fund, £31 4s.*
- Half-yearly instalment of principal and interest on buildings (dwelling, cow-shed and loft, washhouse, cart-shed) valued at £800, which will have to be paid for in cash, or in twenty-one years by forty-two half-yearly instalments of £31 1s. Total half-yearly payments on lease, £62 5s.
Situated about four miles from Ekatahuna Railway-station by good metalled road. Within easy distance from school and dairy factory. All in grass. Land is generally ridgy, intersected by several gullies. Soil is of fair quality of a clay nature, resting on a shingle formation; fairly well watered by small streams and springs. Altitude, 1,060 ft. to 1,100 ft.
Ekatahuna County.—Mangaone Survey District.—Youle Settlement.
Section 1, Block X: Area, 220 acres; capital value, £2,800; half-yearly rent, £63; interest and sinking fund, £19 10s.*
- Half-yearly instalment of principal and interest on buildings (wool-shed, stable, cart-shed, cow-shed, and fowlhouse) valued at £500, which will have to be paid for in cash, or in twenty-one years by forty-two half-yearly instalments of £19 10s. Total half-yearly payments on lease, £82 10s.
Situated about three miles and a half from the Ekatahuna Railway-station by good metalled road. Land is of a generally ridgy nature, all in grass. Soil is of a clay nature of fair quality, resting on sandstone and papa formation; fairly well watered. Altitude, 1,100 ft. to 1,150 ft.
