stream to a road; thence in a northerly direction by the said
road to the south-west corner of Section 8, Block VII; thence
by the south-eastern and north-eastern boundaries of the
last-mentioned Section 8 to the point of commencement. As
the same is more particularly delineated on forest atlas No. 009,
deposited in the Head Office, State Forest Service, at
Wellington, and thereon bordered red.

Land and Income Tax Amendment Act, 1922.—Income-tax
payable.
BY Order in Council made and issued by His Excellency
the Governor-General in Council on the 17th day of
November, 1922, under the authority of the above Act, it was
determined that the duty by way of income-tax, leviable
under section 5 of the said Act, should be paid in one sum on
Wednesday, the 7th day of February, 1923, at the office of
the Commissioner of Taxes, Government Buildings, Wellington ; and, in accordance with such Order in Council, I hereby
give notice that the said duty will be payable accordingly.
Additional tax will accrue if the tax is not paid on or before
28th February, 1923. The liability to pay is not suspended
by any objection. The tax should be paid on or before the
prescribed date, otherwise the additional percentage accrues ;
any overpayment will be adjusted by refund.
The demands will be posted from the office of the Commissioner of Taxes on or about 31st January, 1923. Demands
must be presented with all payments, and if a demand has
not been received the Commissioner should be communicated
with.
NOTE.—IMPORTANT.—A delay will take place in the
issue of the demands for the following :—
Individuals (not companies) whose surnames commence
with the letters C, D, H, I, J, K, Mc, N, O, P, T, W.
In these cases a new due date—viz., 1st March, 1923—will
be fixed as provided by section 127 of the Land and Income
Tax Act, 1916. Additional tax will accrue twenty-one days
thereafter.

HAURAKI GULF.—MOTUKOREHO (BROWN'S ISLAND).—INSTALLATION OF LIGHT.

THE Auckland Harbour Board has notified that the
black buoy off the north-eastern end of Motukoreho
Island, in Hauraki Gulf, has been replaced by a concrete
beacon from which is exhibited, at a height of 27 ft. above
high-water O.S.T., a red occulting (U) light, having a
characteristic of one second flash followed by three seconds
darkness and visible for a distance of approximately ten
miles.

SHIPWRECKED MARINERS.

IT is hereby notified that until further notice the provision
depots maintained by the New Zealand Government
on the Auckland, Bounty, Campbell, Antipodes, and Snares
Islands will be visited only once in each year.

resolution of the Hawke's Bay Land Board, the said land
has thereby reverted to the Crown, under the provisions of
the Land Act, 1908.

Discharged Soldiers.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands
are open for sale or lease to discharged soldiers, under
the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and the regulations thereunder ; and applications will be received at the
District Lands and Survey Office, Napier, and the Local
Lands Office, Gisborne, up to 4 o'clock p.m. on Wednesday,
the 28th day of February, 1923.
The land may be purchased for cash or on deferred payments, or selected on lease for a term of sixty-six years, with
right of renewal for further successive terms of sixty-six
years and a right to acquire the freehold.
Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board
for examination at the Local Lands Office, Gisborne, at
10.30 o'clock a.m. on Monday, the 5th March, or at the District Lands and Survey Office, Napier, on Thursday, the 8th
day of March, 1923, at 10.30 o'clock a.m.
The ballot will be held on Thursday, 8th March, 1923, at
the District Lands and Survey Office. Napier, at the conclusion of the examination of applicants.
SCHEDULE.
HAWKE'S BAY LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Wairoa County.—Opoiti Survey District.—Te Reinga Block.
(Exempt from Payment of Rent for Three Years.)
SECTION 4, Block II : Area, 650 acres; capital value, £2,365;
annual instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest),
£118 5s.; half-yearly rent on lease, £53 4s. 3d.
The section forms the eastern portion of the Te Reinga
Block (the balance of which is occupied by returned soldiers),
and has an area of 650 acres, is situated in the Wairoa County,
and is distant from Wairoa twenty-two miles by a dray-road, metalled for the greater portion.
The East Coast Railway, when completed, will pass close
to the eastern side of the section.
It has an altitude from 200 ft. to 1,380 ft., and is comprised principally of easy to steep ridges covered with light
bush, scrub, and fern, and is suitable for pastoral purposes.
Soil is a pumice loam on papa. There is a suitable homestead-
site. Patches of native grass are scattered over the section,
which is well watered. There is a good deal of blackberry on
the block, and so that the lessee may be given a chance to cope
with it successfully he will be exempted from payment of rent
for three years.
