Situated on the Okoroa Road. Access is from Okahukura Railway-station, which is about one mile distant. There is a school at Okahukura. The section comprises easy to fairly steep country, and includes a very good basin of about 100 acres. There are about 40 acres of fern and scrub land on the front of the section, while the balance of the vegetation consists of mixed forest comprising tawa, rimu, rata, hinau, tawhero, &c., with undergrowth of koromiko, tupari, pongas, supplejacks, karamu, &c. The open country consists of inferior soil on clay formation, while the bush land comprises good soil on papa formation. Well watered by running streams. Elevation ranges from 640 ft. to 1,650 ft. above sea-level.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Clifton County.—Waro Survey District.

Section 8, Block IX: Area, 632 acres. Capital value, £510. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £12 15s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £10 4s. Weighted with £477 10s., valuation for improvements, about £230 approximately of which may be taken over by way of mortgage to the State Advances Superintendent, the balance must be paid for in cash.

Situated on the Tongaporutu-Mangaroa Road, about one mile from Kotare and fourteen miles from Tahoma. Access is from Uruti, which is twenty-four miles distant. In dry weather cars can be taken right to the section. The road is metalled to within about twelve miles of section. The section comprises steep broken country, with small area of flats along the road, 150 acres felled and in grass, but a good portion has now gone back in scrub. The soil is of medium quality, on papa and sandstone formation. The forest is heavy, comprising tawa, rata, hinau, rimu, and a few odd totaras, with a medium undergrowth of supplejacks, &c. Well watered by streams. Elevation ranges from 700 ft. to 1,000 ft. above sea-level.

Ohura County.—Aria Survey District.

Section 7, Block X: Area, 550 acres. Capital value, £690. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £17 5s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £13 16s.

Situated on the Waitehena Road, about a mile from the Waitehena Post and Telephone Office. Access is from Ohura, which is about twelve miles distant by dray-road; or Te Kuiti, which is about forty miles distant by dray-road. The section comprises rough to broken country, with steep faces covered with heavy bush. The soil is of good quality in the gullies and valleys, but poor on the ridges, resting on papa and sandstone formation. The forest is heavy, comprising tawa, hinau, pukatea, rata, rimu, totara, &c., in the valleys, birch, tawhero, and rewarewa on the ridges, with a mixed undergrowth of karamu, kotukutuku, raurekau, wharangi, ponga, &c. The section is well watered by small streams. The elevation ranges from 600 ft. to 1,400 ft. above sea-level.

Opening Settlement Land in Southland Land District for Selection.


JELLICOE, Governor-General.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1908, and amendments, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the settlement land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Tuesday, the nineteenth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-three, at the rental mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said land shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Acts.

SOUTHLAND LAND DISTRICT.

Southland County.—Tuturau Survey District.—Knowsley Park Settlement.

SECTION 11, Block VII: Area, 912 acres 0 roods 5 perches. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £67 5s. 6d.

Notice of Change of the Purpose of Reserves in the Town of Cobden, Westland Land District.


JELLICOE, Governor-General.

WHEREAS by section six of the Public Reserves and Domains Act, 1908 (hereinafter referred to as “the said Act”), the Governor-General is empowered, in the case of any public reserve vested in His Majesty or the Governor-General for any of the purposes comprised in Class II of the Second Schedule to the said Act, to change the purpose for which such reserve was set apart to any other purpose:

And whereas the lands described in the Schedule hereto are reserves duly set apart for sites for public buildings or other purposes of the General Government, being a purpose within Class II in the Second Schedule to the said Act, and it is expedient to change, as hereinafter provided, the purpose of such reserves so set apart:

Now, therefore, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby, in pursuance of the powers conferred on me by section six of the said Act as aforesaid, declare that the reserves described in the Schedule hereto are hereby changed from sites for public buildings or other purposes of the General Government to reserves for municipal purposes. And I do hereby further declare that this notice is issued subject to the provisions of section seven of the said Act, and shall take effect according to the provisions of that section.

WESTLAND LAND DISTRICT.

SECTIONS 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10, Town Block I, Town of Cobden: Area, 1 acre 2 roods 32 perches.

Also Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, Town Block II, Town of Cobden: Area, 1 acre 2 roods 18 perches.

Lands set apart for a Municipal Endowment in the Cobden Town District.


JELLICOE, Governor-General.

WHEREAS by section seventeen of the Land Act, 1908 (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), it is provided that the reserves to be made by the Governor-General for any existing borough or town district under that section shall be made only in cases where reserves for the same purpose do not exist therein, or, if existing, do not equal or exceed the amount of reserves authorized to be made under section fifteen of the said Act:

And whereas the existing municipal reserves in the Town of Cobden do not equal the amount of such reserves authorized by the said section fifteen, and it is deemed expedient to make the reserves hereinafter mentioned:

Now, therefore, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred upon me by the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be and the same are hereby reserved as an endowment or for the use of the Town Board of the Cobden Town District, as constituted by Proclamation dated the twenty-third day of June, one thousand nine hundred and twenty, and published in New Zealand Gazette No. 64, of the first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and twenty.
