Special Order made by the Waipawa County Council altering Riding Boundaries.

Wellington, 3rd April, 1923.

THE following special order, made by the Waipawa County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Counties Act, 1920.
Pursuant to section 100 of that Act, as amended by section 3 of the Counties Amendment Act, 1921–22, I hereby fix the 5th day of April, 1923, as the date from which the special order shall take effect.

WAIPAWA COUNTY COUNCIL.
Alteration of Riding Boundaries.—Merging of Wakarara Riding into Hampden and Ongaonga Ridings.—Notice of Special Order.

NOTICE is hereby given that at a special meeting of the Waipawa County Council holden upon Tuesday, the 29th day of August, 1922, in the County Office, Ruataniwha Street, Waipawa, the following resolution was passed, namely:—

In pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it by section 23 of the Counties Act, 1920, and of all other powers (if any) enabling it in that behalf, the Waipawa County Council doth hereby resolve by way of special order as follows,—

  1. That the boundaries of the Hampden and Ongaonga Ridings respectively of the Waipawa County be altered so as to be hereafter defined according to the description contained in the Schedule hereto, and operating to effect the merger of that part of the Wakarara Riding east of the Makororo River in the Hampden Riding, and that of the Wakarara Riding west of the Makororo River in the Ongaonga Riding.

  2. That such proposed alteration of boundaries and merging shall take effect, with the approval of the Minister of Internal Affairs, on a date to be fixed by him and notified in the Gazette.

SCHEDULE.

Hampden Riding.

All that area in the Hawke's Bay Land District, situated in the Waipawa County, commencing at a point where the Makororo River meets the Hawke's Bay County boundary. Bounded towards the north by the Hawke's Bay County boundary and the Mangamauka Stream; thence towards the north-west by the said Hawke's Bay County boundary and the Poporangi Stream; again towards the north by the Hawke's Bay County boundary aforesaid to the Manga-o-nuku River; thence towards the north-east and east generally by the said Manga-o-nuku River to its confluence with the Waipawa River; thence towards the south generally by the said Waipawa River to its confluence with the Makororo River; thence towards the west by the said Makororo River to point of commencement.

Ongaonga Riding.

All that area in the Hawke's Bay Land District, situated in the Waipawa County, commencing at a point on the summit of the Ruahine Range, being the south-western corner of the Hawke's Bay County. Bounded towards the north-east generally by the Hawke's Bay County boundary to the Makororo River; thence by that river to its confluence with the Waipawa River; thence by the Waipawa River to the road forming the south-western boundary of Section 13, Block IV, Ruataniwha Survey District; thence generally towards the east by a line across the Waipawa River to the Wakarara Road, intersecting Section 5, Block IV, Ruataniwha Survey District (Springhill Settlement); thence by the Wakarara Road to Plantation Road; thence by Plantation Road to the junction of roads in the southern part of Block 43; thence by the road running south-westerly to the Tukituki River; thence towards the south generally by the Tukituki River to the north-western corner of Section 2, Block VII, Makaretu Survey District; thence by a right line running due west to the summit of the Ruahine Range; thence towards the west by the summit of the Ruahine Range to point of commencement.

And notice is hereby given that it is proposed to confirm the said resolution at an ordinary meeting of the said Council to be holden at the County Office on the 9th day of October, 1922, at the hour of 11 a.m., to the intent that the same shall operate and take effect as a special order.

Notification of Issue of Certificate of Registration of Hawera Acclimatization Society.

Department of Internal Affairs,
Wellington, 29th March, 1923:

PURSUANT to the provisions of section 22 of the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, I hereby notify that I have issued a certificate of registration to the Hawera Acclimatization Society, and that the said society has been duly registered under the said Act as from the 29th day of March, 1923.

Notification of Issue of Certificate of Registration of Mangonui and Whangaroa Acclimatization Society.

Wellington, 29th March, 1923.

PURSUANT to the provisions of section 22 of the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, I hereby notify that I have issued a certificate of registration to the Mangonui and Whangaroa Acclimatization Society, and that the said society has been duly registered under the said Act as from the 29th day of March, 1923.

Appointing Days to be kept as Public Holidays by the Customs.

Customs Department,
Wellington, 3rd April, 1923.

IT is notified, for public information, that His Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to appoint each of the days specified below to be kept annually as a public holiday by the Customs at the particular port indicated hereunder, to commemorate the foundation of that portion of New Zealand in which each such port is situated:—

29th January at the port of Gisborne,
23rd March at the port of Oamaru.

Provided that when any such day falls on a Sunday, the following day is, in lieu thereof, to be deemed to be so appointed; and provided further that when any such day falls on a Saturday, the following Monday is, in lieu thereof, if the Comptroller of Customs so directs, to be deemed to be so appointed.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, prohibiting the Sale in the Borough of Newmarket of certain Goods comprised in the Trade of a Tobacconist.

WHEREAS a petition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the tobacconists' shops within the Borough of Newmarket, has been forwarded to me, desiring that the sale of certain goods comprised in the trade of a tobacconist—namely, smoking requisites—be prohibited during such times as the said shops are required to be closed in pursuance of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22:

And whereas, I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the sale of the said goods is comprised in the trade of a tobacconist in the said district, and that the signatures to such petition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops in the said district:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 33 of the said Act, I do hereby direct that on and after the 16th day of April, 1923, the sale of the said goods in the Borough of Newmarket shall be and is hereby prohibited as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays after the hour of 6.30 p.m., on Thursdays after the hour of 8 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays after the hour of 9 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) on the working-day immediately preceding Boxing Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Labour Day, the birthday of the reigning Sovereign, and any day which, pursuant to Proclamation by the Governor-General or declaration by the Government, or on the request of the Mayor or Chairman of the local authority, is generally observed as a public holiday, after the hour of 8 p.m.; (2) on the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and on the working-day immediately preceding New Year's Day after the hour of 10 p.m.
