that the same be passed at once with a view to their approval by His Excellency the Governor-General, in pursuance of the Gaming Act, 1908, section 33.

Mr. E. Hughes, the Chairman of such club and the meeting, moved, and Mr. J. Grogan seconded, and it was resolved, That such regulations should be adopted, and that the Chairman and Secretary be authorized to sign the same in authentication thereof.

The following are the regulations referred to:—

NGUNGURU RACING CLUB.

REGULATIONS.

(Under the Gaming Act, 1908.)

In pursuance and exercise of the powers in that behalf contained in section 33 of the Gaming Act, 1908, and of all other powers and authorities it enabling in that behalf, the Ngunguru Racing Club, a racing club within the meaning of the said Act (hereinafter referred to as “the said club”), doth hereby make the following regulations controlling the admission of persons to that part of the Kiripaka Riding situated in the district of Whangarei, and known as the Ngunguru Racecourse, while the said racecourse is used or occupied by the said club for race meetings.

  1. These regulations shall come into force on the date of the same being published in the New Zealand Gazette.

  2. In these regulations the words “bookmaker,” “racing club,” and “race meeting” shall have the meanings ascribed to those terms respectively by section 2 of the Gaming Act, 1908.

  3. The following persons shall be and are hereby excluded from the racecourse above described while the same is used or occupied by the said club for a race meeting, namely,—

(a.) Bookmakers.

(b.) Bookmakers’ clerks, bookmakers’ assistants, and bookmakers’ agents.

(c.) All persons under disqualification inflicted by any racing or trotting club in the Dominion of New Zealand, the Commonwealth of Australia, or elsewhere, if affiliated to the New Zealand Racing Conference, or the New Zealand Trotting Conference, or the New Zealand Trotting Association.

(d.) Common prostitutes, and persons who habitually consort with thieves or persons who have no lawful visible means of support.

(e.) Professional tipsters, persons convicted of housebreaking or pocket picking, forgery, uttering or possessing counterfeit coin, theft, false pretences, receiving stolen goods, mischief, assault, or any offence or crime of any kind under the Crimes Act, 1908, and also idle and disorderly persons, rogues and vagabonds, and incorrigible rogues convicted under the Police Offences Act, 1908, and persons convicted of an offence under the Gaming Act, 1908.

Provided always that the Stipendiary Stewards’ Committee appointed by the New Zealand Racing Conference, upon being satisfied by evidence as to character and otherwise that any person who, by reason of any conviction, comes within the scope of this regulation should have relief from the effect thereof, may grant exemption to any such person, and may at any time revoke any such exemption without notice to such person, and without assigning any reason for such revocation.

The foregoing regulations of the Ngunguru Racing Club were made and passed by such club on the 27th day of January, 1923, and signed by the Chairman and Secretary.

In the matter of the Public Works Act, 1908.

PUBLIC notice is hereby given that the Central Electric-power Board proposes to execute certain public works—to wit, the construction of electric works—for which purpose the following lands require to be taken by Proclamation under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908: Sections Eighteen and Nineteen—that is to say, all that piece or parcel of land in the Provincial District of Auckland containing by admeasurement one rood thirty and forty-six hundredths perches, more or less, being portion of Allotment Number Six hundred and sixty-seven of the Town of Newcastle. A plan of the lands required to be taken as aforesaid is open for inspection at the office of the Town Clerk, Ngaruawahia. All persons affected are hereby called upon to set forth in writing any well founded objections to the execution of such works or to the taking of such lands, and to send such writing to the Secretary-Manager of the Central Electric-power Board, Hamilton, within forty days from the date of the first publication of this notice.
