Notice to Mariners No. 11 of 1923.

OTAGO HARBOUR.—PILOT SERVICE.

Wellington, N.Z., 6th March, 1923.

THE Otago Harbour Board notifies that the pilot staff, which was formerly housed at the North Spit, Otago Heads, has now been transferred to Port Chalmers.
The transference of the pilot staff to Port Chalmers will not in any way interfere with the customary pilot service of vessels, which will, in all other respects, be maintained as formerly.
Charts, &c, affected: Admiralty Chart No. 2411; “New Zealand Pilot,” ninth edition, 1919, page 363 ; “New Zealand Nautical Almanac,” 1923, page 270 and plan facing.

THE following Notices to Mariners, which have been received from the Hydrographic Office, London, are published for general information.

ENGLAND.

SOUTH-EAST COAST.—THE DOWNS.—GULL LIGHT-VESSEL.—ALTERATION IN POSITION ; CAUTION.

Former Notice.—No. 1542 of 1922 ; hereby cancelled.
New Position.—At a distance of about 2 cables northward from former charted position.
Lat. 51° 16′ 05″ N., long. 1° 28′ 30″ E., on chart No. 1828.
Remarks.—View E and the leading line “South Foreland High Lighthouse over the middle of Old Stairs Bay 207° (S. 40° W. Mag.)” are to be expunged from chart No. 1828. This leading line is also to be expunged from chart No. 1895.
Caution.—In view of the extension of the Goodwin sands to the westward, mariners are cautioned that they should not attempt to pass between the Gull light-vessel and the Goodwin sands.

EAST COAST.—RIVER THAMES APPROACH.—OUTER GABBARD LIGHT-VESSEL.—ALTERATION IN CHARACTER OF LIGHT.

Former Notice.—No. 1729 of 1922 ; hereby cancelled.
Position.—Lat. 51° 59′ N., long. 2° 04′ E. (approx.).
New Abridged Description.—Lt. Fl. ev. 15 sec., 40 ft., vis. 11 m.
Details.—The group flashing white light showing four flashes every minute has been replaced by a flashing white light every fifteen seconds, thus :—Flash, 1·75 sec. ; eclipse, 13·25 sec.
