New Zealand Inscribed Stock Act, 1917.—Closing of Registers.

NOTICE is hereby given that the Register of New Zealand 5½-per-cent. Inscribed Stock, maturing 15th January, 1933, will be closed from the 1st January to the 15th January, 1923, inclusive, for the purpose of the issue of half-yearly interest.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, prohibiting the Sale in the City of Auckland of certain Goods comprised in the Trade of a Baker.
WHEREAS a petition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the bakers’ shops within the City of Auckland, has been forwarded to me, desiring that the sale of certain goods comprised in the trade of a baker—namely, bread, cakes, and pastry—be prohibited during such times as the said shops are required to be closed in pursuance of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22 :
And whereas I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the sale of the said goods is comprised in the trade of a baker in the said district, and that the signatures to such petition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops in the said district :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 33 of the said Act, I do hereby direct that on and after the 21st day of December, 1922, the sale of the said goods in the City of Auckland shall be and is hereby prohibited as follows : On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after the hour of 7 p.m., on Fridays after the hour of 9.30 p.m., and on Saturdays after the hour of 10.30 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) on the evening preceding Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, after the hour of 11 p.m. ; (2) on the evening preceding any other day generally observed as a public holiday in the City of Auckland, after the hour of 9.30 p.m.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, prohibiting the Sale in the City of Christchurch of certain Goods comprised in the Trade of a Tobacconist.
WHEREAS a petition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the tobacconists’ shops within the City of Christchurch, has been forwarded to me, desiring that the sale of certain goods comprised in the trade of a tobacconist—namely, cigars, cigarettes, and tobacco—be prohibited during such times as the said shops are required to be closed in pursuance of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, or of any award :
And whereas I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the sale of the said goods is comprised in the trade of a tobacconist in the said district, and that the signatures to such petition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops in the said district :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 33 of the said Act, I do hereby direct that on and after the 28th day of December, 1922, the sale of the said goods in the City of Christchurch shall be and is hereby prohibited as follows : On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after the hour of 6 p.m., on Fridays after the hour of 10 p.m., and on Saturdays after the hour of 1 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) during Carnival Week, on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday after the hour of 8 p.m., on Thursday after the hour of 10 p.m., on Friday after the hour of 1 p.m., and on Saturday after the hour of 9 p.m. ; (2) during Grand National Week, on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday after the hour of 8 p.m., on Friday after the hour of 10 p.m., and on Saturday after the hour of 1 p.m. ; (3) on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve the sale of the said goods is not prohibited ; (4) in the event of Christmas Day falling on a Sunday or a Monday, after the following hours, during the week preceding Christmas Day, with the exception of Friday on which the sale of the said goods is not prohibited, viz., Monday 1 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 6 p.m., Saturday 11 p.m. ; (5) where a special holiday occurs on a Friday and the shops are closed for the whole of the day, on the preceding Thursday after the hour of 10 p.m. The notice prohibiting the sale in the City of Christchurch of certain goods comprised in the trade of a tobacconist, dated the 12th June, 1922, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of 15th June, 1922, is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, fixing the Closing-hours of Hairdressers’ Shops in the Orepuki Riding of the Wallace County.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the hairdressers’ shops in the Orepuki Riding of the Wallace County, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the riding be closed in the evening of working-days as follows : Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday at 9 p.m., Saturday 10.30 p.m. ; provided that in the case of any shop that is closed for the statutory half-holiday on Saturdays pursuant to section 14 of the Act, the closing-hour on Wednesday shall be 9 p.m. and on Fridays 10.30 p.m. There shall be no fixed closing-hour for the evenings immediately preceding Good Friday, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day respectively :
And whereas I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the hairdressers’ shops within the Orepuki Riding of the Wallace County :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, I do hereby direct that on and after the 21st day of December, 1922, all the hairdressers’ shops within the Orepuki Riding of the Wallace County shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows : On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 9 p.m., and on Saturdays at 10.30 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 14 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Wednesday for any such shop shall be 9 p.m., and on Friday 10.30 p.m. ; (2) in the evening of the working-day that first precedes Good Friday, in the evening of the working-day that first precedes Christmas Day, and in the evening of the working-day that first precedes New Year’s Day there shall be no fixed closing-hour. The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 26th August, 1909, fixing the closing-hours of all the shops in the Orepuki Riding of the Wallace County is hereby superseded, in so far as it relates to the shops affected by this notice, as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) grocer and (2) draper in the Borough of Sumner, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough be closed in the evening of working-days as follows : On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 5.30 p.m., and on Saturdays at 8.30 p.m., with the exception that should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 14 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Wednesday for any such shop shall be 5.30 p.m. and on Friday 8.30 p.m. :
And whereas I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) grocer and (2) draper in the Borough of Sumner :
