Nothing in any license to take or kill godwits shall authorize the holder thereof to take or kill godwits on lands actually and exclusively used by any registered acclimatization society for acclimatization purposes, or on any sanctuary or public domain.

Shooting Season for Godwits, License Fee, &c., Otago Acclimatization District.


IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, I, William Downie Stewart, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify that the following native game—viz., godwits—may be taken or killed within the Otago Acclimatization District, comprising all that area in the Otago and Southland Districts comprising the counties of Vincent, Maniototo, Waihemo, Waikouaiti, Taieri, Peninsula, Tuapeka, Bruce, Clutha, and part of the County of Southland, bounded on the east and south by the ocean from Shag Point to the mouth of the Mataura River, on the west by the Mataura River and the County of Lake, on the north-west by the County of Westland, and on the north-east by the County of Waitaki; including the City of Dunedin and the boroughs within the above-described area; (except in the areas mentioned in the Schedule hereto) from the first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-three, to the thirty-first day of March, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-three (both days inclusive). And I do further notify that licenses to take or kill such native game within the said district will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of ten shillings each; and the Chief Postmaster at Dunedin, and the Postmasters at Alexandra, Balclutha, Beaumont, Clinton, Clyde, Cromwell, Dunback, Fortrose, Green Island, Henley, Hyde, Hawea Flat, Heriot, Kaitangata, Kelso, Lawrence, Lovell’s Flat, Matakauui, Middlemarch, Miller’s Flat, Mosgiel, Milton, Naseby, Omakau, Outram, Owaka, Port Chalmers, Portobello, Pukerau, Palmerston, Roxburgh, Ranfurly, Romahapa, St. Bathan’s, Stirling, Tapanui, Waihola, Waikouaiti, Wyndham, Waipahi, Waipiata, Waipori, and Waitahuna, are hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licenses.

SCHEDULE.

  1. THE Lagoon known as the Tomahawk Lagoon (Otago Peninsula).

  2. All that area in the Otago Land District being Section 9, Block 22, Strath-Taieri Survey District.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, I, William Downie Stewart, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify that the following native game—viz., godwits—may be taken or killed within the Southland Acclimatization District, consisting of so much of the County of Southland as lies to the westward of the Mataura River, together with the counties of Fiord, Wallace, and Stewart Island (except in the areas mentioned in the Schedule hereto), from the first day of February, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-three, to the thirty-first day of March, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-three, both days inclusive.

And I do further notify that licenses to take or kill such native game within the said district will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of ten shillings each; and the secretary of the Southland Acclimatization Society, or any person authorized by such secretary in that behalf, is hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licenses.

  1. SECTION 27, Block IV, Invercargill Hundred.

  2. Sections 19, 20, 32, 37, 43, and parts 9 and 11, Block IV, Campbelton Hundred (Mr. Thomas Maclean’s property).

  3. Sections 2 and 3, Block VI, Lillburn Survey District, containing about 2,429 acres (Mr. Arthur Struan Gardner’s property).

Meetings of Nelson Land Board.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has, in pursuance of section 48 of the Land Act, 1908, approved of meetings of the Nelson Land Board being held at the District Lands and Survey Office, Nelson, at 10 o’clock a.m. on Thursday, the 11th January, 8th February, 8th March, 12th April, 10th May, 14th June, 12th July, 9th August, 13th September, 11th October, 8th November, and 13th December during the year 1923.

Notice prohibiting the Sale in the Borough of Devonport of certain Goods comprised in the Trade of a Baker, under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22.


WHEREAS a petition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the bakers’ shops within the Borough of Devonport, has been forwarded to me, desiring that the sale of certain goods comprised in the trade of a baker—namely, bread, cakes, and pastry—be prohibited during such times as the said shops are required to be closed in pursuance of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22:

And whereas I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the sale of the said goods is comprised in the trade of a baker in the said district, and that the signatures to such petition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops in the said district:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 33 of the said Act, I do hereby direct that on and after the 20th day of November, 1922, the sale of the said goods in the Borough of Devonport shall be and is hereby prohibited as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after the hour of 7 p.m., on Fridays after the hour of 9.30 p.m., and on Saturdays after the hour of 10.30 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) on the evening preceding Christmas Day and New Year’s Day after the hour of 11 p.m., (2) on any other day generally observed as a half-holiday in the Borough of Devonport after the hour of 9.30 p.m.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, fixing the Closing-hours of Tobacconists’ Shops in the Borough of Lyttelton.


WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the tobacconists’ shops in the Borough of Lyttelton has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at 7 p.m.:

And whereas I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the tobacconists’ shops within the Borough of Lyttelton:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, I do hereby direct that on and after the 23rd day of November, 1922, all the tobacconists’ shops within the Borough of Lyttelton shall be closed accordingly.
