Nothing in any license to take or kill godwits shall authorize the holder thereof to take or kill godwits on lands actually and exclusively used by any registered acclimatization society for acclimatization purposes, or on any sanctuary or public domain, or any land mentioned in the Schedule hereto.

  1. THE head of the Inner Harbour, near Petane.
  2. Tutira Lake.

Shooting Season for Godwits, License Fee, &c., Nelson Acclimatization District.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, I, William Downie Stewart, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify that the following native game—viz., godwits—may be taken or killed within the Nelson Acclimatization District, comprising the Waimea, Takaka, Collingwood, and Murchison Counties, and part of the Inangahua County of present date, bounded towards the north-west and north-east generally by the Tasman Sea, Golden Bay, and Tasman Bay from Kohaihai Bluff, in Block XIII, Whakapoai Survey District, to a point on the shore of Croisilles Harbour due west of the westernmost point of Elaine or Brown’s Bay; thence towards the north by a right line running due east to said westernmost point of that bay and by southern shore of that bay to its south head; thence towards the south-east generally by a right line to Trig. Station Y (boundary trig.), and by a line along the summit of the range over Mount McLaren, Editor Peak, Mount Dupa, and Saddle Hill to the source of the Heringa Stream; thence by a line down the middle of that stream to its confluence with the Pelorus River; thence by a line up the middle of the Pelorus River to its source near Red Hills; thence by a right line to the summit; thence by a line along the summit of the range over Red Hills, Mount Rintoul, and Bush Cone to the summit of Ward’s Pass; thence by a right line to Trig. Station Top 2 (Mangatawai); thence by a line along the summit of St. Arnaud Range and the summit of the Spenser Mountains; thence towards the south-west by a line along the summit of the southern watershed of the Maruia River to Mount Haast; thence by a line due north to the right bank of the Inangahua River, and along that bank to and along the left bank of the Buller River to the mouth of the Eight-mile or Boundary Creek; thence by a line up a leading spur on the western side of said Boundary Creek to Bald Hill, and by a line along the summit of Lyell Range and along the summit of a range over Mount Luna to Mount Arthur; thence towards the south-west by a line along the summit of the western ranges over Mount Peel and Mount Snowdon to Mount Cobb; thence towards the south-east by a line along the summit of range over Mount Domett and down a leading spur to the Tasman Sea at Kohaihai Bluff, the place of commencement; from the first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-three, to the thirty-first day of March, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-three (both days inclusive). And I do further notify that licenses to take or kill such native game within the said district will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of ten shillings each; and the Chief Postmaster at Nelson, and the Postmasters at Motueka, Kohatu, Wakefield, Murchison, and Reefton, are hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licences.

Shooting Season for Godwits and Knots, License Fee, &c., North Canterbury Acclimatization District.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, I, William Downie Stewart, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify that the following native game—viz., godwits and knots—may be taken or killed within the North Canterbury Acclimatization District, comprising all that area in the Nelson, Marlborough, and Canterbury Land Districts bounded by a line commencing at Whitcombe Pass and proceeding north-easterly along the summit of the Southern Alps and the Spenser Mountains to Hount Humboldt; thence along a right line to Barefell Pass, a right line to Palmer Saddle, and thence down the Conway River to its mouth; thence along the sea-coast to Rakaia River, and up that river to its source at Whitcombe Pass, the point of commencement; (except in the areas mentioned in the Schedule hereto) from the first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-three, to the thirty-first day of March, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-three (both days inclusive). And I do further notify that licenses to take or kill such native game within the said district will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of ten shillings each; and the secretary of the said North Canterbury Acclimatization Society, or any person authorized by such secretary in that behalf, is hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licenses.

SCHEDULE.

ADDITIONAL AREAS WHEREIN IMPORTED GAME AND NATIVE GAME MAY NOT BE TAKEN OR KILLED.

  1. ALL that area in the County of Akaroa, situated in the Akaroa and Ellesmere Survey Districts, Canterbury Land District, containing by admeasurement 1,540 acres, more or less, being the lake known as Lake Forsyth, including all roads fronting on the shores of the said lake; and all those reserves in the said county and survey districts numbered 3186, 3187, 3185, 2903, 890, and 157, including Native Reserve No. 385 adjoining Lake Forsyth. Also those portions of R.S. 2474, 4804, and 6012, being the flat land adjoining Okute and Little River Streams and Lake Forsyth.
  2. Ahuriri Lagoon.
  3. Horse-shoe Lake.
  4. Glenmark Lagoon.
  5. Cheviot Lagoon.
  6. All that area containing 162 acres, more or less, being Section No. 7409, Block XII, Grey Survey District, the said section being the property of Frederick Busch, of Newlands, Amberley.
  7. All that area within one mile on each side of the West Coast (Christchurch–Hokitika) Road from Springfield to Dillmanstown.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, I, William Downie Stewart, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify that the following native game—viz., godwits—may be taken or killed within the South Canterbury Acclimatization District, comprising the counties of Geraldine and Levels, and that portion of the County of Mackenzie lying to the east of a line commencing at Mount Cook and proceeding by a right line over the Ball Hut to the Tasman Glacier, thence along the western boundary of the Tasman Glacier to the Tasman River, thence by a line along the middle of that river, and the middle of Lake Pukaki, and the middle of Pukaki River to the Waitaki River, together with the boroughs of Geraldine, Timaru, and Temuka, from the first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-three, to the thirty-first day of March, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-three (both days inclusive). And I do further notify that licenses to take or kill such native game within the said district will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of ten shillings each; and the secretary of the said South Canterbury Acclimatization Society, or any person authorized by such secretary in that behalf, is hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licenses.

And I do hereby restrict the number of such native game that may be taken or killed by any one person in any one day to not more than ten head.
