In accordance with the provisions of the Education Act,
1914, and its amendments, it is hereby publicly notified
that the following persons have been duly elected as members
of the Education Board of the District of Southland :
Invercargill Urban Area : John Stead.
Central Ward : Philip Aldborough De La Perrelle.
West Ward : George Frederick Johnson.
East Ward : Hugh Smith.
The number of votes recorded in favour of the respective
candidates was as follows :-

Blake, Frederick George ... 14
Total number of valid votes recorded, 36.
Total number of votes rejected as informal, 1.
It is further notified that for the Central and West Wards
the candidates declared elected were the only ones nominated:
For the East Ward, as no nominations were received, the
Board elected Mr. Hugh Smith.

HAURAKI GULF.-TIRITIRI MATANGI LIGHT.-REMOVAL OF
RED SECTOR.
Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 8th August, 1922.
NOTICE is hereby given that the existing red sector of
the light shown from the lighthouse situated on the
south-east point of Tiritiri Matangi Island, in the Hauraki
Gulf (latitude 36° 36' S., longitude 174° 54' E.), is to be
removed at an early date.
When this has been carried out the existing light will show
white from all directions in which it is now visible, and where
it is not obscured by the land.
Description.-The future abbreviated description of this
light will be : Light, fixed, white, visible 23 miles.
It is expected that the red sector will be removed on or
about 23rd August, 1922, and due notice will be given when
the alteration has been made.

THE following Notices to Mariners, which have been
received from the Hydrographic Office, London ; the
Department of Navigation, Sydney ; and the Comptroller
of Customs, Suva, are published for general information.

URUGUAY.
RIO DE LA PLATA.-ENGLISH BANK.-AMENDED DESCRIPTION
OF LIGHT-BUOY.
Position.-At a distance of about 9½ miles eastward from
English Bank. Lat. 35° 12' S., long. 55° 40' W. (approx.)
Amended Description.-A black conical light-buoy, exhibiting
a flashing white light.
Remarks.-The words "Whistle, Submarine Fog-bell ev.
30 secs., Experimental" against this buoy are to be erased
from the charts.
FRENCH WEST AFRICA.
CAPE BLANCO.-SHOAL SOUTH-WESTWARD OF.
Position.-At a distance of 21·5 miles 243° from Cape
Blanco Lighthouse. Lat. 20° 36' N., long. 17° 23' W. (approx.).
Depth.-6 fathoms (11·0 m.).
AUSTRALIA.
EAST COAST.-UNCHARTED ROCKY LEDGE IN VICINITY OF
SPLIT SOLITARY ISLAND.
Masters and others are hereby notified that an uncharted
rocky ledge exists inshore from Split Solitary Island, the
bearings of the ledge being--
From Split Solitary Island, 4·48° 50' W. (mag.).
From White Bluff, N. 65° E. (mag.).
The minimum depth obtained was slightly less than four
fathoms.
It is considered that masters of vessels of moderate or
deep draught should avoid passing inside of Split Solitary
Island.
NORTH-WEST COAST.-CAMBRIDGE GULF.-MEDUSA BANKS.-- BUOY ESTABLISHED.
Position.-Off the north-west extremity of Medusa Banks.
Lat. 14° 29' 00" S., long. 128° 18' 00" E., on Chart No. 1387.
Description.--Black buoy surmounted by a staff and cage.
NEW SOUTH WALES.--BARUNGUBA (MONTAGUE) ISLAND.-- EXISTENCE OF ROCK SOUTHWARD OF.
Position.-At a distance of 2·25 miles 203° from Barunguba
Island Lighthouse. Lat. 36° 17' S., long. 150° 13' E. (approx.).
Description.--A pinnacle rock with a least depth of 2½
fathoms (4·6 m.).
FIJI.
SUVA HARBOUR.
Notice is hereby given that the pile lighthouse at the
entrance of Suva Harbour to indicate the turning-point for
vessels proceeding up the harbour, situated on the northern
end of the Eastern Reef in approx. lat. 18° 8' 12" S. and long.
178° 24' 33" E., is now being replaced by a ferro-concrete
hexagonal tower erected on piles, from which will be exhibited
on and after the 1st day of September, 1922, an A.G.A.
occulting unattended beacon light, arc of visibility 360°.
The light will be white and of one occultation every ten
seconds (i.e., light one second, eclipse nine seconds). The
focal plane of this light will be 34 ft. above high water, and
the light will be visible from a ship's deck in clear weather
for about eight miles.
The new building is being erected S. mag. 50 yards from the
present pile lighthouse.
All care possible must be exercised in navigating this
passage from the southward, as the present light may some-
times be obscured on northerly bearings by the pile-driver,
scantling, or tower itself.
Shipping are also warned that in the event of night work
being done on the new structure flares will be burned for
lighting purposes only.
The Wigham occulting light exhibited from a single concrete
pillar, situated about one cable inside the edge of the Western
Reef at the entrance to Suva Harbour, in approx. lat. 18°
8' 38" S., long. 178° 24' 00" E., will on and after the 1st day
of September, 1922, be converted into a fixed white light,
arc of visibility 360°. The focal plane of this light is 38' 7"
above high water, and the light will be visible from a ship's
deck for about six miles in clear weather.

Sheet 2, Bergen to Stavfjord.--Plan of entrance to
Simadal added ; new compasses : minor amendments made.
(3.) CHARTS CANCELLED.
The undermentioned charts have been cancelled and per-
manently withdrawn from publication :-

and approaches.
Note.--This chart has been cancelled by a new chart
of the same number and title.
