THE Public Service Commissioner has made the following appointments in the Public Service:—

WILLIAM JAMES MUNRO

to be Receiver of Land Revenue for the Canterbury Land District, for the purposes of the Land Act, 1908, as from the 1st day of June, 1922.

JAMES HOSEASON WADDELL WARDROP

to be Receiver of Land Revenue for the Hawke’s Bay Land District, for the purposes of the Land Act, 1908, as from the 1st day of June, 1922.

Appointments, Promotions, Resignations, and Transfers of Officers of the N.Z. Staff Corps, N.Z. Army Medical Department, and Territorial Force.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the appointments, promotions, resignations, and transfers of the undermentioned officers of the N.Z. Staff Corps, N.Z. Army Medical Department, and Territorial Forces.

N.Z. STAFF CORPS.

Lieutenant L. E. Earle is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class II (a). Dated 16th May, 1922.

N.Z. ARMY MEDICAL DEPARTMENT.

Captain (temp. Major) A. D. Nelson, M.C., relinquishes the temporary rank of Major, and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, N.Z. Medical Corps. Dated 31st March, 1922.

Lieutenant (temp.) T. A. Bell relinquishes the appointment of Quartermaster and the temporary rank of Lieutenant. Dated 31st March, 1922.

Captain (temp.) E. Chappell relinquishes the appointment of Adjutant and Quartermaster, Queen Mary Hospital, and the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 20th January, 1922.

1ST N.Z. MOUNTED RIFLES REGIMENT.

Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry.

Captain [late Major, Reserve of Officers (temp.)] C. G. Hayter, M.C., is posted to the Retired List, with the rank of Major, under the provisions of General Headquarters Instruction No. 56/21. Dated 26th May, 1922.

THE N.Z. INFANTRY.

The Auckland Regiment.

Lieutenant H. A. Wernham to be Captain (1st Battalion). Dated 24th May, 1922.

Lieutenant R. B. Hardy, from the Wellington Regiment, to be Lieutenant (5th C. Battalion), with seniority as from 10th December, 1921. Dated 25th May, 1922.

2nd Lieutenant C. N. Devery, D.C.M. [late Unattached List (General List), to be 2nd Lieutenant (2nd Battalion). Dated 1st July, 1921.

The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 87, of 21st October, 1920, relating to the above-named officer is hereby cancelled.

Lieutenant-Colonel R. C. Allen, D.S.O., is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class I (b), R.D. 1. Dated 27th May, 1922.

The Wellington Regiment.

Lieutenant R. B. Hardy is transferred to the Auckland Regiment (5th C. Battalion). Dated 25th May, 1922.

Colonel P. C. Fenwick, C.M.G., M.B. Lond., relinquishes the appointment of Assistant Director of Medical Services, Canterbury Military District, and is appointed Assistant Director of Medical Services, Southern Command. Dated 21st June, 1922.

Lieutenant-Colonel J. S. Elliott, M.D. Edin., is appointed Assistant Director of Medical Services, General Headquarters. Dated 21st June, 1922.

Lieutenant-Colonel (temp. Colonel) H. J. McLean, C.B.E., M.B., relinquishes the appointment of Assistant Director of Medical Services, Wellington Military District, and is appointed Assistant Director of Medical Services, Central Command. Dated 21st June, 1922.

Colonel R. Tracy-Inglis, C.B.E., M.B., relinquishes the appointment of Assistant Director of Medical Services, Auckland Military District, and is appointed Assistant Director of Medical Services, Northern Command. Dated 21st June, 1922.

Captain (temp. Lieutenant-Colonel) A. McP. Marshall, M.B., relinquishes the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers. Dated 21st June, 1922.

RESERVE OF OFFICERS.

Lieutenant A. R. Curtis is posted to the Retired List, with the rank of Captain, under the provisions of General Headquarters Instruction No. 56/21. Dated 27th May, 1922.

Date of Election of Members of the Foxton Fire Board.

Department of Internal Affairs,
Wellington, 7th June, 1922.

PURSUANT to section 18 of the Fire Brigades Act, 1908, I, William Downie Stewart, Minister of Internal Affairs, and the Minister charged with the administration of the said Act, do hereby appoint Monday, the 12th day of June, 1922, to be the day for the holding of an election of three members of the Foxton Fire Board by the contributing local authority. And I do further appoint Thursday, the 22nd June, 1922, to be the day for the holding of an election of three members of the said Foxton Fire Board by the insurance companies which for the time being are carrying on business within the said Foxton Fire District.

Notice prohibiting the Sale in the Borough of Gisborne of certain Goods comprised in the Trade of a Tobacconist, under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22.

WHEREAS a petition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the tobacconists’ shops within the Borough of Gisborne has been forwarded to me, desiring that the sale of certain goods comprised in the trade of a tobacconist—namely, cigarettes, tobacco, and cigars—be prohibited during such times as the said shops are required to be closed in pursuance of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22:

And whereas, I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the sale of the said goods is comprised in the trade of a tobacconist in the said district, and that the signatures to such petition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops in the said district:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 33 of the said Act, I do hereby direct that on and after the 15th day of June, 1922, the sale of the said goods in the Borough of Gisborne shall be and is hereby prohibited as follows: With the exception of the working-day that first precedes Christmas Day and with the exception of the working-day that first precedes New Year’s Day, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays after the hour of 5.30 p.m., and on Saturdays after the hour of 9 p.m.
