Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the
national-endowment lands described in the Schedule hereto
shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Monday,
the twenty-sixth day of June, one thousand nine hundred
and twenty-two, at the rentals mentioned in the said
Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be
leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.

Section 51: Area, 52 acres 3 roods 12 perches ; capital value, £1,160 ; half-yearly rent, £23 4s.
These sections comprise portion of the Waihi Swamp,
which is situated to the north of the East Coast Main Trunk
Railway between Paengaroa and the Pongakawa River.
The road access is by the Main East Coast Road, which
fronts the sections. The Pongakawa Railway-station is half
a mile from the most eastern section, whilst the Maniatutu
Railway-station is half a mile from Section 35. Te Puke is
situated about eight miles to the west by road, where the
nearest dairy factory is situated. These sections are partly
drained swamp land, it being necessary for the successful
applicants to carry out the internal drainage, the Lands
Department providing each section with an outlet drain.
Along the main road and the Kaikokopu Stream there are
narrow strips of hard country, but the greater part of the
sections comprises a peaty soil swamp, overlying a pumice
deposit with timber in parts. The surface growth is manuka,
flax, raupo, and rushes, with patches of rough feed. Some
of the sections have fresh water running through the adjacent
drains, but it is not anticipated that there will be any difficulty in obtaining good artesian water.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS.
Selectors will be required, before placing any stock upon
their holdings, to securely ring fence and also to fence off
all drains, so as to prevent damage to roads and drains by
stock.
The Department reserves the right of entering upon the
lands at any time for draining purposes, and of making and
deepening drains without payment of compensation.
Selectors will be responsible for maintenance of all boundary,
catchment, and surface drains within their sections.
The sections will eventually be subject to the rating clauses
of the Swamp Drainage Act.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this 6th day of May, 1922.
D. H. GUTHRIE, Minister of Lands.
