Election of Member of Hawke’s Bay Land Board.

I, WILLIAM FAIRCHILD MARSH, Returning Officer for the election of a member of the Hawke’s Bay Land Board, do hereby notify, in accordance with the provisions of section 41 of the Land Act, 1908, and the regulations made thereunder, that the only person nominated to fill the vacancy occurring on the said Board was Robert Beatson Ross, Esq., of Porangahau.

I do therefore hereby declare that the said ROBERT BEATSON ROSS is duly elected a member of the Hawke’s Bay Land Board as from the 26th day of May, 1922.

CROWN LANDS NOTICES.

NOTICE is hereby given that a surrender of the lease of the undermentioned land having been accepted by a resolution of the Canterbury Land Board, the said land has thereby reverted to the Crown, under the provisions of the Land Act, 1908, and the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915.

Lands in North Auckland Land District for Sale or Lease to Discharged Soldiers.

North Auckland District Lands and Survey Office,
Auckland, 24th April, 1922.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands are open for sale or lease to discharged soldiers under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and the regulations thereunder; and applications will be received at the North Auckland District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, the 12th day of June, 1922.

The lands may be purchased for cash or on deferred payments, or selected on lease for sixty-six years, with right of renewal for further successive terms of sixty-six years and a right to acquire the freehold.

Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the North Auckland District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, on Wednesday, the 14th day of June, 1922, at 10.30 o’clock a.m.

The ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination of applicants.


SCHEDULE.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Waitemata County.—Paremoremo Parish.

SECTION 299: Area, 30 acres 1 rood 30 perches; capital value, £100; annual instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £5; half-yearly rent on lease, £2 5s.

After the first half-year’s rent has been paid, no further rent will be payable by the lessee for a period of two years.

Weighted with £115, valuation for improvements consisting of fencing and kauri house of two rooms and passage, iron roof, brick chimney and range, 600-gallon tank; house 12 ft. by 27 ft., rough lined but not ceiled.

Altitude, 200 ft. to 400 ft. above sea-level. Approximately 6 acres of undulating land, the balance being rough broken country in short fern and manuka; about one-half ploughable. This is all exposed to the south. The soil is of poor clay, resting on clay and sandstone formation. The section is watered by a swampy creek. It is situated on the high ridge at the back of Albany. The access is from Albany, which is about three miles distant by a formed road, of which one mile and a half is metalled.

Mangonui County.—Mangonui East Parish.

Section 6: Area, 58 acres 3 roods 1 perch; capital value, £70; annual instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £3 10s.; half-yearly rent on lease, £1 11s. 6d.

Weighted with £10, valuation for improvements consisting of drains and orchard.

Undulating land; 10 acres in wiwi flat, balance easy slopes in rushes, manuka, fern, and hakea. Soil of very poor quality clay, gum land, and badly watered. Situated about four miles from Mangonui on the Mangonui-Kaeo Road.

Franklin County.—Koheroa Parish.

Section 184.—Altitude, 100 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level. Mostly rough hilly country, a portion being easy ploughable slopes. The whole area is in fern and short tea-tree. The section is well watered. The access is from Pokeno, distant about ten miles by formed and metalled road.

Section 185.—Consists of easy undulating slopes of very fair quality, and nearly all ploughable. The area is covered in fern and tea-tree; it is only fairly well watered. The access is from Pokeno, distant about ten miles by formed and metalled road.

Section 186.—Consists of about 200 acres of poor hill country, the balance being easy ploughable slopes, all in fern and low tea-tree. The section is well watered. The access is from Pokeno, distant about ten miles by formed and metalled road.

Section 187.—Altitude, 100 ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level. This section is of very mixed quality, the northern portion being poor, while the eastern and southern ends of the block consist of very fair easy slopes, all ploughable, and with treatment could be well grassed and capable of carrying a fair number of stock. The section is well watered. The access is from Pokeno, distant about ten miles by formed and metalled road.

Section 188.—Altitude, 100 ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level. The section consists of about 25 acres of good swamp, the balance being easy slopes of fair quality. Water will have to be obtained by boring. The access is from Pokeno, distant about ten miles by formed and metalled road.

Section 189.—Consists of very fair land. It is all very easy, undulating to flat, and 100 acres is of very fair soil on clay subsoil. The section has no running water, but by boring about 100 ft. an ample supply should be obtained. The access is from Pokeno, which is about ten miles distant, by formed and metalled road.

Section 190.—About 240 acres of easy undulating slopes, balance good swamp land. The slopes are of very fair quality, and will break up well. The section is fairly watered, but boring may be necessary. Access is from Pokeno by formed road about ten miles distant.

Section 191.—Altitude, 50 ft. to 150 ft. above sea-level. Consists of 70 acres of good easy slopes, the balance being rich swamp land. The dry land is all of very good quality, showing a good dark soil, while the swamp, although very wet, carries a good deal of raupo and flax. When this swamp is drained it will be very good. The section is well watered. Access is same as Section 190.


SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Hokianga County.—Punakitere Survey District.

Section 5, Block XIII: Area, 506 acres 2 roods; capital value, £450; annual instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £22 10s.; half-yearly rent on lease, £10 2s. 6d.

Altitude, 550 ft. to 850 ft. above sea-level. Undulating land. 500 acres of heavy mixed forest, comprising rimu, towai, taraire, tawa, rata, with a heavy undergrowth of kiekie, kariau, nikau, &c. The soil is of good clay, resting on sandstone formation. Section is well watered by permanent streams, and situated about eight miles from Waimatenui Post-office and school, the access being from Taheke, twenty-five miles distant.
