Appointment in Naval Forces.

Wellington, 28th February, 1922.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased
to approve of the appointment of the undermentioned
officer of the New Zealand Naval Forces:—

Mr. WILLIAM RANDELL appointed to H.M.S. “Philomel”
as Probationary Schoolmaster in the New Zealand
Naval Forces, as from the 28th February, 1922, vice
Ellicott, resigned.

Rangitaiki Land Drainage District.—Penalty on Overdue Rates.

Wellington, 15th February, 1922.

IN pursuance of section 28 of the Rating Amendment Act,
1910, and the regulations under the Rangitaiki Land
Drainage Act, 1910, the ratepayers within the district con-
stituted by the last-mentioned Act are hereby notified that
10 per cent. additional will be added to all rates for the year
ended 31st March, 1922, unpaid on the 29th March, 1922.
Rates may be paid at any money-order office, or to the
“Collector of Rates,” Box 1659, Auckland.

Teachers in Secondary Schools and in Technical Schools and
Classes and of Manual-training Classes.—Members of
Appeal Boards.

IN pursuance of the regulations for appeals of teachers
against their classification or grading made in terms of
the Education Act, 1914, and the amendments of that Act, it
is hereby notified, for general information, that the following
persons have been appointed, in accordance with clause 2 (c)
of the said regulations, by the New Zealand Secondary-
school Assistants’ Association and by the Technical-school
Teachers’ Association respectively, as members of Appeal
Boards set up in accordance with the regulations:—

(1.) Appointed by the New Zealand Secondary-school

Grading of Secondary-school Teachers and of Technical-school
Teachers.—Setting-up of Appeal Boards for 1922.

IT is hereby notified, for general information, that PETER
BARR has been appointed Chairman of all Appeal Boards
for the year 1922 set up to hear appeals in connection with the
grading of secondary-school teachers and of technical-school
teachers; and that THEOPHILUS BENJAMIN STRONG has been
appointed representative of the Education Department upon
such Boards.

These appointments are made under clause 2 of the regula-
tions for appeals of teachers against their classification or
grading made by Order in Council of the 13th June, 1921.

Cancellation of Notice fixing the Closing-hours of (a) Hair-
dressers’ and (b) Tobacconists’ Shops in the Borough of New
Plymouth, under the Shops and Offices Act, 1908.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority
of the occupiers of all the hairdressers’ shops in the
Borough of New Plymouth, has been forwarded to me, desir-
ing that the notice gazetted on the 5th October, 1916, fixing
the closing-hours of (a) hairdressers’ and (b) tobacconists’
shops in the Borough of New Plymouth be cancelled in so
far as it relates to hairdressers’ shops:

And whereas I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour,
am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent
a majority of the occupiers of all the hairdressers’ shops
within the Borough of New Plymouth:

And whereas, by a notice gazetted on the 3rd March, 1921,
fixing the closing-hours of tobacconists’ shops in the Borough
of New Plymouth, the said notice gazetted on the 5th October,
1916, fixing the closing-hours of (a) hairdressers’ and (b) toba-
conists’ shops in the Borough of New Plymouth was super-
seded in so far as it related to tobacconists’ shops:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops
and Offices Act, 1908, I do hereby direct that on and after
the 9th day of March, 1922, the notice gazetted on the 5th
October, 1916, fixing the closing-hours of (a) hairdressers’
and (b) tobacconists’ shops in the Borough of New Plymouth
shall be and is hereby cancelled.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of all the Tobacconists’ Shops
in the Borough of New Plymouth, under the Shops and
Offices Act, 1908.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority
of the occupiers of all the tobacconists’ shops in the
Borough of New Plymouth, has been forwarded to me, desir-
ing that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the
evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays,
and Thursdays at 6 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays 9.30 p.m.,
with the following exceptions:—

(1.) On the working-day that first precedes any of the
special days mentioned in or coming within the
meaning of section 19 of the Shops and Offices Act,
1908, there shall be no fixed closing-hour:

(2.) Should the occupier of any shop affected by this requi-
sition observe, pursuant to the said Act, Monday as
the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the
closing-hour on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
shall be 6 p.m., and on Friday and Saturday 9.30
p.m.:

(3.) Should the occupier of any shop affected by this requi-
sition observe, pursuant to the said Act, Tuesday
as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case
the closing-hour on Monday, Wednesday, and Thurs-
day shall be 6 p.m., and on Friday and Saturday
9.30 p.m.:

(4.) Should the occupier of any shop affected by this requi-
sition observe, pursuant to the said Act, Wednesday
as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case
the closing-hour on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday
shall be 6 p.m., and on Friday and Saturday 9.30
p.m.:

(5.) Should the occupier of any shop affected by this requi-
sition observe, pursuant to the said Act, Thursday
as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case
the closing-hour on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednes-
day shall be 6 p.m., and on Friday and Saturday
9.30 p.m.:

(6.) Should the occupier of any shop affected by this requi-
sition observe, pursuant to the said Act, Friday as
the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the
closing-hour on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday
shall be 6 p.m., and on Wednesday and Saturday
9.30 p.m.:

And whereas I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour,
am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent
a majority of the occupiers of all the tobacconists’ shops
within the Borough of New Plymouth:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops
and Offices Act, 1908, I do hereby direct that on and after
the 9th day of March, 1922, all the tobacconists’ shops within
the Borough of New Plymouth shall be closed accordingly.

The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 3rd
March, 1921, fixing the closing-hours of tobacconists’ shops
in the Borough of New Plymouth is hereby cancelled as from
the date of the coming into operation of this notice.
