Declaring Section 5, Block VII, Opotiki Survey District, to be a Sanctuary for Imported and Native Game.

JELLICOE, Governor-General.

PURSUANT to the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify and declare that the area described in the Schedule hereto shall be a sanctuary for the purposes of the Animals Protection Act, and that no imported or native game shall be taken or killed within the said area.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that area in the Auckland Land District, being Section 5, Block VII, Opotiki Survey District, the property of Mr. George Gaskill.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this 22nd day of February, 1922.

Opening National-endowment Lands in the North Auckland Land District for Selection by Discharged Soldiers on Renewable Lease.

JELLICOE, Governor-General.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the national-endowment lands described in the Schedule hereto, which have been set apart for selection by discharged soldiers, shall be open for selection by discharged soldiers on renewable lease on Friday, the twenty-first day of April, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-two, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act and the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915.

NORTH AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—NATIONAL ENDOWMENT.—FIRST-CLASS LAND.

Section 7.—Altitude, 100 ft. to 250 ft. above sea-level. Open country, covered with light tea-tree and fern. All ploughable. Soil is brown loam, on clay formation; poorly watered. Situated on Mangawai-Pakiri Road. Access is from Mangawai, about seven miles distant, by formed road metalled in parts.

Sections 8 and 9.—Altitude, 100 ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level. Open country, covered with fern and tea-tree. All ploughable. Soil brown loam, on clay formation; poorly watered. Situated on Mangawai-Pakiri Road. Access is from Mangawai, about seven miles distant, by formed road metalled in parts.

Sections 10, 11, and N.E. 12.—Altitude, 100 ft. to 200 ft. above sea-level. Open country, covered with small tea-tree and fern. All ploughable. Soil brown loam, on clay formation; poorly watered. Situated on Mangawai-Pakiri Road. Access is from Mangawai, about six miles and a half distant, by formed road metalled in parts.

Section N. 53.—Altitude, 150 ft. to 200 ft. above sea-level. Open undulating country, covered with tea-tree and fern. All ploughable. Soil brown loam, on clay formation; not watered. Situated off Mangawai-Pakiri Road. Access from Mangawai, about six miles and a half distant, by formed road partly metalled.

Section 54.—Altitude, 150 ft. to 200 ft. above sea-level. Open undulating country, covered with tea-tree and fern.

All ploughable. Soil is brown loam, on clay formation; not watered. Situated on the Mangawai-Pakiri Road. Access is from Mangawai, about six miles distant, by formed road partly metalled.

Waitemata County.—Waipareira Parish.

Altitude, 150 ft. to 200 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to broken country, all ploughable, with scrub in places. The soil varies from fair to poor. Fairly well watered by a swampy stream. Access is from Henderson Railway-station, distant three to five miles, two miles and three-quarters of which is by good metalled road, balance formed clay road.

Section 166.—Altitude, 200 ft. to 350 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to steep land cut up by gullies, in scrub, manuka, fern, and hakea; all more or less ploughable. Soil poor clay, resting on clay formation; poorly watered by a swampy stream probably dry in summer, but water is obtainable by sinking. Situated on the Albany-Deep Creek Road just twenty chains off the main Silverdale-Devonport Road, which is metalled. Access is from Albany, two miles distant by a formed road, one mile of which is metalled; or from Takapuna, which is about four miles and a half by a good metalled road and a quarter of a mile clay road. Albany has a daily motor service with Birkenhead, and is well served by launches.

Section 167.—Altitude, 200 ft. to 350 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to steep land, broken by gullies, in manuka, fern, and hakea; all more or less ploughable. Soil poor clay, on clay formation; poorly watered by swampy stream probably dry in summer, but water would be obtainable by sinking. Situated on the Silverdale-Devonport main road, which is metalled. Access is from Albany, two miles and a quarter distant by formed road, one mile of which is metalled; or from Takapuna, about four miles and a half by good metalled road.

Section 168.—Altitude, 200 ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level. Undulating land in danthonia and short scrub, all ploughable; northerly aspect suitable for fruit and poultry. Soil varies from a heavy loam to poor clay, on clay formation; watered by swampy stream. Situated on Silverdale-Devonport main road, which is metalled. Access from Albany, about two miles and a quarter distant by formed road, one mile of which
