Proposed Boundaries of the Electoral Districts in the South Island (including Stewart Island) of New Zealand.

THE South Island Representation Commission appointed under the Legislature Act, 1908, in pursuance of section 21 of the said Act hereby publish for general information the following proposed boundaries of the electoral districts in the South Island (including Stewart Island); and further give notice that written objections to the same, addressed to the undersigned, the Chairman of the said Commission, will be received at the office of the Chief Surveyor, Lands and Survey Department, Christchurch, up to noon on Tuesday, the 10th day of January, 1922.

Maps of the proposed districts may be seen at the offices of the several local bodies in the said South Island (including Stewart Island); of the Chief Surveyors at Dunedin, Christchurch, Nelson, Blenheim, Hokitika, and Invercargill; of the Chief Electoral Officer at Wellington; and of the several Registrars of Electors throughout the South Island aforesaid (including Stewart Island) for consideration by the aforesaid Commission.

SOUTH ISLAND ELECTORAL DISTRICTS.

WESTLAND.

WESTLAND District comprises the existing Westland Electoral District together with those portions of the Waipuna and Nelson Creek Ridings of Grey County lying between the existing Buller Electoral District boundary and the Grey River.

BULLER.

Buller District comprises the existing Buller Electoral District less those portions of the Waipuna and Nelson Creek Ridings of Grey County lying between the existing Buller Electoral District boundary and the Grey River, and includes the whole of the Mokohinui and Karamea Ridings of Buller County; also that portion of Boatman’s Riding of Inangahua County lying between the existing electoral district boundary on the north-east and north-west and the Brunner Range, Larry’s Creek, Raglan Creek, and Boatman’s Creek; also that portion of Antonio’s Riding of the said county lying between the existing Buller Electoral District boundary and the Westport to Reefton Railway; and less that portion of the Waipuna and Nelson Creek Ridings of the Grey County lying between the existing Buller Electoral District boundary and the Grey River.

MOTUEKA.

Motueka District includes the existing Motueka Electoral District together with the whole of the Moutere Riding of Waimea County, the whole of the Dovedale Road District of Dovedale Riding of the said Waimea County, also that portion of the said Dovedale Riding lying between the north-west boundary of the said Dovedale Road District and the boundary of the existing Motueka Electoral District; also those portions of the Whangapeka, Motupiko, Wai-iti, Appleby, and Stoke Ridings of the said Waimea County formerly included in the existing Wairau Electoral District hereinafter described; less the whole of the Karamea and Mokihinui Ridings of Buller County now included in the Buller Electoral District hereinbefore described; also less those portions of the Boatman’s and Antonio’s Ridings of Inangahua County now included in the said Buller Electoral District.

NELSON.

Nelson District comprises the existing Nelson Electoral District together with that portion of the Sounds County lying to the north of the watershed extending from the north-eastern boundary of the Marlborough County to the head of the Kenepuru Sound and Miritu Bay, and westward along the boundary of the Forest Reserve to Te Puru Bay, and including the Forsyth, Maud, Chetwode, Trio, and adjacent islands; and less the Moutere Riding of Waimea County.

WAIRAU.

Wairau District comprises the existing Wairau Electoral District less the whole of that portion of Waimea County lying between the north-western, north-eastern, south-eastern, and south-western boundaries of the existing Wairau Electoral District; also less that portion of Sounds County now included in the Nelson Electoral District hereinbefore described. This district now includes the whole of that portion of the Marlborough County lying to the south-west of the said existing Wairau Electoral District boundary, together with the whole of the Awatere County.

HURUNUI.

Hurunui District comprises the existing Hurunui Electoral District less that portion of the Marlborough County and the whole of the Awatere County now included in the Wairau Electoral District hereinbefore described; includes the whole of the Kaikoura, Cheviot, Waipara, Tawera, Kowai, and Ashley Counties, the whole of the North Riding of Oxford County, that portion of the South Riding of Oxford County lying to the north-west of the railway-line, together with the whole of the Sheffield Riding of Malvern County.

KAIAPOI.

Kaiapoi District comprises the existing Kaiapoi Electoral District, together with the Papanui Riding of Paparua County, and that portion of the Avon Riding of Waimairi County lying to the south and east of the existing Kaiapoi Electoral District boundary; and less the whole of the North Riding of Oxford County and that portion of the South Riding of the said Oxford County now included in the Hurunui Electoral District hereinbefore described.

CHRISTCHURCH NORTH.

Christchurch North District comprises the existing Christchurch North Electoral District together with that portion of the existing Avon Electoral District bounded on the north by Fowke Street, on the east by Perth Street, on the south by London Street, and on the west by North Avon Road; also that portion of the existing Avon Electoral District bounded on the north by Bealey Avenue, on the east by the extension of North Avon Road to Heywood Terrace, on the west by the road in line with Queen Street; and less that portion of Christchurch City bounded on the north by Kilmore Street, on the east by Colombo Street, on the south by Armagh Street, and on the west by York Street.

CHRISTCHURCH EAST.

Christchurch East District comprises the existing Christchurch East Electoral District together with that portion of Christchurch City bounded on the north by St. Asaph Street, on the east by Phillips Street, on the south by Ferry Road, and on the west by Fitzgerald Avenue; and less that portion of Christchurch City, commencing at the intersection of Ensor’s Road and the Christchurch-Lyttelton Railway, bounded on the north-east by the said railway, on the east and south by the Heathcote River, and on the west and north by the said river and Ensor’s Road to the point of commencement.

CHRISTCHURCH SOUTH.

Christchurch South District comprises the existing Christchurch South Electoral District together with that portion of Christchurch City now excluded from the Christchurch North Electoral District hereinbefore described.

AVON.

Avon District comprises the existing Avon Electoral District less those portions of Christchurch City now included in the Christchurch North, the Christchurch East, and the Kaiapoi Electoral Districts hereinbefore described.

RICCARTON.

Riccarton District comprises the existing Riccarton Electoral District less the whole of the Sheffield Riding of Malvern County now included in the Hurunui Electoral District hereinbefore described; also less the whole of the Papanui Riding of Waimairi County now included in the Kaiapoi Electoral District hereinbefore described. This district now includes the whole of Riding No. 1 of Halswell County and that portion of No. 2 Riding of the said county lying to the north of the south-eastern boundary of Section No. 4734 and the road forming the north-eastern boundary of Sections 338A and 338B; also includes that portion of the Homebush and Courtenay Ridings of Malvern County formerly included in the existing Ellesmere Electoral District.

LYTTELTON.

Lyttelton District comprises the existing Lyttelton Electoral District together with that portion of Christchurch City now excluded from the Christchurch East Electoral District hereinbefore described.

ELLESMERE.

Ellesmere District comprises the existing Ellesmere Electoral District together with that portion of the Lake Coleridge Riding of Selwyn County lying to the south and west generally of the existing Ashburton Electoral District boundary; also that portion of the Mount Hutt Riding of Ashburton County lying to the south-west of the Rakaia River and north-west generally of the existing Ellesmere Electoral District boundary; also that portion of the South Rakaia Riding of
