north-east corner. The country is generally of light pumice
formation, varying from flat land (which is of inferior quality
and is covered with short fern, tea-tree, manaoa, and tussock)
to undulating and slightly broken country of better quality
covered with fern and tutu. Altitude, 1,000 ft. to 2,200 ft.

Opening Settlement Lands in Marlborough Land District for Selection.
JELLICOE, Governor-General.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1908, and amendments, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the settlement lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Wednesday, the seventh day of December, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-one, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Acts.

Opening National-endowment Land in the Southland Land District for Selection by Discharged Soldiers on Renewable Lease.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the national-endowment land described in the Schedule hereto, which has been set apart for selection by discharged soldiers, shall be open for selection by discharged soldiers on renewable lease on Wednesday, the fourteenth day of December, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-one, at the rental mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said land shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act and the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915.

Wallace County.—Aparima Hundred.
SECTION 11, Block V: Area, 217 acres 3 roods 36 perches; capital value, £310; half-yearly rent, £6 4s.
Altitude, from 600 ft. to 900 ft. above sea-level. Hilly country; fair soil, on clay subsoil. Worked-out bush area, suitable for dairying when cleared. Well watered by permanent streams. Access by good gravelled road for two miles and formed road for forty-five chains' to Otatau Railway-station.

Opening Lands in Auckland Land District for Sale or Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Friday, the sixteenth day of December, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-one; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

Situated on the Matata—Whakatane main road, from one mile to two miles and a half from Thornton, which is distant about eight miles from Whakatane. Practically level land covered with fern and manuka scrub, with patches of raupo. A fairly large proportion of Section 104 consists of lagoon, and about two-thirds of Section 105 is raupo swamp. Soil of a sandy nature, the general quality ranging from good on Section 99 to poor on Section 104; Section 105 is of good quality, but rather wet. Sections 99 to 102 are poorly watered. Sections 103 to 105 are watered by swamp or lagoons. Altitude, 3 ft. to 10 ft.
