RESOLUTION.

THE following regulations were laid before the members of the Thames Jockey Club (Incorporated) at a meeting held on the 28th day of February, 1919, at Thames, with a recommendation by the Chairman of the Club, Mr. Albert Bruce, that the same be passed at once with a view to their approval by the Governor-General, in pursuance of the Gaming Act, 1908, section 33.

Mr. Albert Bruce, the Chairman of the Club and the Meeting, moved, and Mr. Robert Stanley Darrow seconded, and it was resolved, that such regulations should be adopted, and that the Chairman be authorized to sign the same in authentication thereof.

The following are the regulations referred to:—

THAMES JOCKEY CLUB (INCORPORATED).

REGULATIONS.

(Under the Gaming Act, 1908.)

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers in that behalf contained in section 33 of the Gaming Act, 1908, and of all other powers and authorities it enabling in that behalf, the Thames Jockey Club, a racing club within the meaning of the said Act (hereinafter referred to as “the said club”), doth hereby revoke the regulations dated the 28th day of February, 1918, and in lieu thereof doth hereby make the following regulations controlling the admission of persons to that part of the club’s property situated in the district of Thames, and known as the Parawai Racecourse, while the said racecourse is used or occupied by the said club for race meetings.

  1. These regulations shall come into force on the date of the same being published in the New Zealand Gazette.

  2. In these regulations the words “bookmaker,” “racing club,” and “race meeting” shall have the meanings ascribed to those terms respectively by section 2 of the Gaming Act, 1908.

  3. The following persons shall be and are hereby excluded from the racecourse above described while the same is used or occupied by the said club for a race meeting, namely,—

(a.) Bookmakers.

(b.) Bookmakers’ clerks, bookmakers’ assistants, and bookmakers’ agents.

(c.) All persons under disqualification inflicted by any racing or trotting club in the Dominion of New Zealand, the Commonwealth of Australia, or elsewhere, if affiliated to the New Zealand Racing Conference, or the New Zealand Trotting Association, or the New Zealand Trotting Conference.

(d.) Common prostitutes, and persons who habitually consort with thieves or with persons who have no lawful visible means of support.

(e.) Professional tipsters, persons convicted of housebreaking or pocket-picking, forgery, uttering or possessing counterfeit coin, theft, false pretences, receiving stolen goods, mischief, assault, or any offence or crime of any kind under the Crimes Act, 1908, and also idle and disorderly persons, rogues and vagabonds, and incorrigible rogues convicted under the Police Offences Act, 1908, and persons convicted of an offence under the Gaming Act, 1908.

The foregoing regulations of the Thames Jockey Club (Incorporated) were made and passed by the Thames Jockey Club on the 28th day of February, 1919, and signed by the Chairman and Secretary.

APPLICATION FOR LICENSE FOR A WATER-RACE.

UNDER THE MINING ACT, 1908.

To the Warden of the Westland Mining District at Reefton.

PURSUANT to the Mining Act, 1908, the undersigned, Henry Betts, of Inangahua Junction, Farmer, hereby applies for a license for a water-race as specified in the Schedule hereto, the course whereof has been duly marked out for the purpose.

Precise time of marking out privilege applied for: 30/9/21, at 2 p.m.

Date and number of miner’s right: 6/7/21; No. 122340.

Address for service: Care of H. P. Lawry, Solicitor, Reefton.

Dated at Reefton this 3rd day of October, 1921.

SCHEDULE.

Locality of race, and of its starting and terminal points: Situate in Block IX, Inangahua Survey District, starting at a point on the north bank of Brown Creek about 29 chains south-easterly from the westernmost corner of Section 13, and terminating at a point in Section 11 about 10 chains north of the southern boundary of Section 11 and about 3 chains east of the western boundary of Section 11, and crossing Section 13 (held by John Ross) and Sections 11 and 12 (held by the applicant), all under lease in perpetuity.

Length and intended course of race: 79 chains, or thereabouts, as per plan filed with application.

Points of intake: One.

Estimated time and cost of construction: Six months; £1,000.

Mean depth and breadth: 2 ft. 6 in. by 2 ft.

Number of heads to be diverted: Ten heads.

Purpose for which water is to be used: Sawmilling and mining purposes.

Proposed term of license: Twenty-one years.

Width of land required under section 110 of the Mining Act, 1908: 20 ft., increased to 33 ft. from the outlet of tunnel to the north boundary of Section 13, a distance of about 10½ chains.
