NEW EDITION OF PACIFIC ISLANDS PILOT, VOL. III.
A FIFTH edition of Pacific Islands Pilot, Vol. III, dated 3rd May, 1920, has been published.
The following Admiralty Notices to Mariners issued since going to press affect this book: Nos. 878, 1409, and 1441 of 1920.
MISCELLANEOUS.
LIST OF COUNTRIES THE NAVIES OF WHICH HAVE ADOPTED THE UNIFORM SYSTEM OF TIME-KEEPING AT SEA.
The uniform system of time-keeping at sea by means of time zones has now been adopted in the navies of the following countries in addition to that of Great Britain: Chile, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain, United States.
The system is fully illustrated on British Admiralty Chart No. D 6, a new edition of which will shortly be issued.
ENGLAND.
WEST COAST.
(1.) Liverpool Bay.—Existence of a Wreck.
Position (approximate).—At a distance of about 2½ miles northward of the N.W. light-vessel. Lat. 53° 33′ 30″ N., long. 3° 30′ W.
Description.—Sunken wreck of the vessel “City of Brussels.”
(2.) Beaumaris Bay.—Existence of a Wreck.
Position (approximate).—At a distance of about 3½ miles westward of Great Ormes Head Lighthouse. Lat. 53° 21′ N., long. 3° 57′ 55″ W.
Description.—Sunken wreck of the vessel “Mona.”
SOUTH COAST.—SPITHEAD APPROACH.—NAB LIGHT-VESSEL.—TOWER PLACED SOUTHWARD OF.—LIGHT TEMPORARILY EXHIBITED.—FOG-SIGNAL ESTABLISHED.
Former notices hereby cancelled.
Position.—At a distance of 2 cables, 154°, from the charted position of the Nab Light-vessel. Lat. 50° 40′ 4″ N., long. 0° 57′ 4″ W.
Details.
(a.) TOWER: Description.—A circular concrete and steel tower, the submerged portions of which project for a distance of about 60 ft.
(b.) LIGHT: Abridged Description.—2 lts. F., red, vertl., 104 ft. and 98 ft.
Description.—Two fixed red vertical lights 6 ft. apart at the top of the structure. The elevation of the upper light is approximately 104 ft.
Remarks.—These lights are exhibited temporarily. It is intended in the near future to establish a permanent light on the tower; further notice with regard to this will be given.
(c.) FOG-SIGNAL: Description.—A hand horn, situated on the north-eastern part of the summit of the tower, giving one blast of four seconds duration every minute.
CAUTION.—Mariners are warned that, in consequence of the above, the light of the Nab Light-vessel is obscured to the southward between certain bearings, the limits of which will vary according to the movement of the light-vessel due to wind and tidal stream.
BRITISH ISLANDS.
TEMPORARY ALTERATIONS IN AIDS TO NAVIGATION.
Former notice hereby cancelled.
(a.) Cairnbulg Briggs light is unreliable; the fog-gun at Cairnbulg Briggs is not working.
(b.) Berwick Pier light is extinguished.
(c.) The fog-siren at Immingham East Jetty is not working.
(d.) Broadness (River Thames) flashing white light temporarily shows as follows: Flash 1 sec., eclipse 9 secs.
(e.) Salcombe Landing-stage fixed white light is extinguished.
(f.) The gun and explosive fog-signals at North Stack has been temporarily discontinued, and replaced by an explosive signal giving one report every five minutes.
NORTH-SEA.
BELGIUM.—OSTENDE ROADS.—LIGHT-BUOY ESTABLISHED.
Former Notice.—No. 943 of 1920.
Position.—In Direct Pass, in the position of Stroom Bank unlighted buoy, which it replaces. Lat. 51° 14′ 30″ N., long. 2° 53′ 37″ E.
Description.—A light-buoy, painted red and marked “Stroombank” in white, exhibiting an occulting white light every ten seconds thus: Light 7 secs., eclipse 3 secs.

PANAMA CANAL.
ATLANTIC ENTRANCE.—COLON HARBOUR, EAST BREAKWATER.—LIGHTS ESTABLISHED OFF.—LIGHT-BUOY WITHDRAWN.
- Lights established.
(a.) MAIN LIGHT: Position.—At a distance of about 70 yards southward from the western extremity of the East Breakwater, and 3¾ cables, 89°, from the group flashing red light near the end of the West Breakwater. Lat. 9° 23½′ N., long. 7° 55′ W.
