loan of £64,000 for the following purpose—viz., to provide for the taking or purchase of a gasworks-site, the erection of gasworks, the purchase of all necessary plant in connection therewith, and the necessary alteration to and enlargement of gas-mains, and to provide for a proper system of reticulation in the borough in connection with the said works; and that the number of votes recorded respectively for and against the proposal was as follows: For, 555; against, 198.

Electricity Reticulation Loan.

I HEREBY give notice that on the 29th day of June, 1921, a proposal was submitted by the Lower Hutt Borough Council to the ratepayers of the Borough of Lower Hutt for raising a special loan of £30,000 for the following purpose—viz., to provide for the erection of pole-lines, cable-pole types, substations, street lights, house-service connections, house-service meters, for the purpose of completing a system of electrical reticulation within the Borough of Lower Hutt, and for payment of compensation, engineering, and contingencies in connection therewith; and that the number of votes recorded respectively for and against the proposal was as follows: For, 654; against, 99.

And I declare the said proposals to be carried.

THE following result of the election of a member of the Christchurch, Greymouth, and Hokitika Fire Boards by fire-insurance companies has been reported to the Minister of Internal Affairs, and is notified in accordance with the rules made under the Fire Brigades Act, 1908:—

Notice respecting Proposed Town District of Howick, County of Manukau.

Wellington, 2nd July, 1921.

IT is hereby notified that a petition has been presented to His Excellency the Governor-General, under the Town Boards Act, 1908, praying that the area described in the Schedule hereto may be constituted a town district under the said Act, by name the Town District of Howick.

All persons affected are hereby called upon to lodge any written objections to or petitions against the constitution of the said district which they desire to make, within one month from the first publication of this notice, such objections or petitions to be addressed to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Wellington.


SCHEDULE.

DESCRIPTION OF BOUNDARIES OF PROPOSED HOWICK TOWN DISTRICT.

ALL that area in the Auckland Land District bounded towards the north-east by the Hauraki Gulf from the eastern boundary of Lot 18, Section 9, Suburbs of Howick, to the south-east corner of Allotment 68, Parish of Pakuranga; towards the south by the southern boundary of the last-mentioned allotment and that boundary produced to the middle of the road forming its western boundary; towards the east by the middle of the road forming the eastern boundaries of Lots 14 and 8 of Section 7, Suburbs of Howick; towards the south generally by the middle of the road forming the southern boundaries of Lots 8, 7, and 6 of Section 7 aforesaid, and by the middle of the road forming the north-west boundaries of Lots 4, 5, and 6 of Section 8, Suburbs of Howick, to a point in line with the northern boundary of Lot 5, Section 12, Suburbs of Howick; towards the south generally by a line to the north-east corner of Lot 5 aforesaid, by Lot 5 aforesaid, Lots 12, 4, and 3 of the said section, across a road, and by Lot 1, Section 12 aforesaid, by Lot 8, across a road, and by Lots 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1, Section 11, and by a line to the middle of the road forming west boundary of Lot 1 aforesaid; and towards the west generally by the middle of the road forming the eastern boundary of Section 1, Suburbs of Howick, and the south-eastern boundary of Section 10, Suburbs of Howick, and the western boundaries of Lots 3, 4, 6, 11, and 12 of Section 9, Suburbs of Howick, and the western boundary of Lot 12 aforesaid, to the Hauraki Gulf.

Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges, Whangarei Branch Railway, Portland to Waiotira (5 M. 23 Chs. to 19 M. 75 Chs.); and North Auckland Railway, Mareretu to Waiotira (96 M. 30 Chs. to 107 M. 28 Chs.).

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 11 of the Public Works Amendment Act, 1909, I, Joseph Gordon Coates, the Minister of Public Works, do hereby order and declare that the regulations, scale of fares, rates, and charges for passengers and goods, and the conditions on which passengers and goods will be carried on the Whangarei Branch Railway, Portland to Waiotira (5 miles 23 chains to 19 miles 75 chains), and on the North Auckland Railway, Mareretu to Waiotira (96 miles 30 chains to 107 miles 28 chains), prior to being opened for traffic under the Government Railways Act, 1908, shall be as set forth in the Schedule hereto, such regulations, scale of fares, rates, charges, and conditions to come into force on the 21st day of July, 1921.


SCHEDULE.

PART 1.

THE regulations, scale of fares, rates, and charges, and the conditions on which passengers and goods will be carried on the Whangarei Branch Railway, Portland to Waiotira (5 miles 23 chains to 19 miles 75 chains), and on the North Auckland Railway, Mareretu to Waiotira (96 miles 30 chains to 107 miles 28 chains), prior to being opened for traffic under the Government Railways Act, 1908, shall, mutatis mutandis, be the same as the following Parts, or portion or portions of the Parts, of the regulations and scale of fares, rates, and charges for the New Zealand Government railways fixed on the 3rd day of February, 1913, by the Minister of Railways, as published by the Government Printer by authority in the New Zealand Government Railways Handbook, relating to passengers, fares, and coaching and goods rates (hereinafter referred to as “the Handbook”), as altered and added to from time to time by publication in the New Zealand Gazette, as hereinafter mentioned, namely:—

(1.) Part 1 of the Handbook, clauses 1 to 50, pages 1 to 19, except clauses 11, 11A, and 13A to 43 both inclusive.
(2.) Part 2 of the Handbook, pages 26 to 38 inclusive.
(3.) Part 3 of the Handbook, pages 41 to 68 inclusive, except clause 11, Lime for manuring Farm Lands, page 58.
(4.) Part 5 of the Handbook, pages 93 to 118 inclusive.
(5.) The alterations to the scale of fares, rates, and charges in force upon the New Zealand Government railways as published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 23rd October, 1913, the 16th April, 1914, the 4th June, 1914, the 16th September, 1915, the 16th March, 1916, the 19th April, 1917, the 22nd November, 1917, the 7th February, 1918, the 4th December, 1919, the 20th day of May, 1920, the 24th August, 1920, the 22nd December, 1920, and the 24th March, 1921, affecting the parts of the Handbook hereinbefore mentioned.
(6.) Where the words mentioned in the first column below appear in the Parts of the Handbook hereinbefore mentioned, the words in the second column below shall be read in lieu thereof:—

PART 2.

Notwithstanding anything contained in Part 1 of this Schedule, the regulations, conditions, rates, and charges for the use of the Oakleigh Railway Wharf shall be as follows:—

OAKLEIGH RAILWAY WHARF.

This wharf may be open for receipt and delivery of goods on all days (Sundays and holidays observed by H.M. Customs excepted) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but on Saturdays may be closed at 12 noon.

Vessels may load or discharge from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., but on Saturdays to noon only.
