Wairau River District extended.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS, in accordance with the provisions of section three of the River Boards Amendment Act, 1913, a majority of the ratepayers in the area described in the First Schedule hereto, situated in the County of Marlborough, have presented a petition to His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, praying that the land comprised in the said area be included in the Wairau River District as constituted under the provisions of the River Boards Act, 1908, and its amendments :

And whereas it is expedient to alter the boundaries of such river district in manner hereinafter appearing :

Now, therefore, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority contained in section three of the River Boards Amendment Act, 1913, do hereby proclaim and declare that the area described in the First Schedule hereto, being now part of the County of Marlborough, shall as on and from the second day of July, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-one, be deemed to be added to and form part of the Wairau River District; and, with the like power and authority, do proclaim and declare that the boundaries of the said Wairau River District, with such addition as aforesaid, shall be those set forth in the Second Schedule hereto.

And I do also proclaim and declare that the said Wairau River District shall be subdivided into four subdivisions, to be called the Blenheim Subdivision, the Omaka Subdivision, the Spring Creek Subdivision, and the Tuamarina Subdivision, the boundaries whereof shall be those described in the Third Schedule hereto; that the number of members who are to constitute the Board of the said district shall be nine; and that three members shall be elected for the Blenheim Subdivision, two members for the Omaka Subdivision, two members for the Spring Creek Subdivision, and two members for the Tuamarina Subdivision.

And I do also proclaim and declare that Alexander James Maclaine, of Blenheim, shall be the Returning Officer to conduct the first elections for each subdivision of the aforesaid district; that Wednesday, the twenty-seventh day of July, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-one, shall be the day, and the Town Hall, Blenheim, the Public School, Springlands, the Public School, Riverlands, the Public Hall, Spring Creek, the Public Hall, Grovetown, the Public Hall, Rapaura, and the Public School, Tuamarina, shall be the places, for holding such first elections; and that Wednesday, the third day of August, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-one, at half past seven o’clock in the afternoon, shall be the time, and the Blenheim Borough Council Chambers, Blenheim, shall be the place, at which the first meeting of the members of the Board of the said river district shall be held.

And, lastly, I do proclaim and declare that the said Alexander James Maclaine, of Blenheim, shall be the person to prepare the rolls in connection with the aforesaid first elections for the said subdivisions.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

AREA ADDED TO WAIRAU RIVER DISTRICT.

ALL that area in the Marlborough Land District, being the Wairau Native Reserve, bounded on the north-west by Sections 115 and 114; on the north-east by Sections 1, 2, 6, 9, and 3, and Marukoko Stream; and on the south-west by the south-western boundary of the Wairau Maori Drainage District as described in the New Zealand Gazette, 1914, page 1957.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

WAIRAU RIVER DISTRICT.

ALL that area in the Marlborough Land District bounded by a line commencing at the junction of the Wairau and Waihopai Rivers, and proceeding thence down the Wairau River to a point opposite the south-western corner of Section 2, Block VII, Cloudy Bay Survey District; thence to that corner
