AUCKLAND HARBOUR.—DREDGING.

T HE Auckland Harbour Board notifies that the dredger “Hapai” is now engaged in working off the Coal Wharf, Chelsea.

The “Hapai” has six moorings laid out cardinally.

Vessels are warned to exercise care when navigating in the vicinity of the dredger.

The following publications are affected : Admiralty Chart No. 1970 ; “New Zealand Pilot,” ninth edition, page 192 ; “New Zealand Nautical Almanac,” 1921, page 266.

OTAGO HARBOUR.—POSITION OF LIGHTS AT ENTRANCE.

T HE Otago Harbour Board notifies that the latitude and longitude of the three lights operating at the entrance to Otago Harbour are as follows : —

Front Aga light (No. 2 red beacon) . . . . 45° 48’ 0” 170° 43’ 7” Back Aga light (near Kaik Dairy Factory) . . . . 45° 47’ 27” 170° 43’ 12” Hayward Point (Aga light) 45° 45’ 28” 170° 41’ 34”

The positions of these lights have been calculated from the locally accepted position of Observation Point, in latitude 45° 48’ 57” S., longitude 170° 37’ 43·5” E.

The following publications are affected : Admiralty Charts Nos. 2411, 2532, 3629, 1212 ; “New Zealand Pilot,” ninth edition, 1919, pages 362–364 ; “New Zealand Nautical Almanac,” 1921, pages 373 and 374.

SCOTLAND.

SOUTH - WEST COAST. - MULL OF GALLOWAY. - INTENDED ALTERATION IN PERIOD OF FOG-SIGNAL.

Date of Alteration.—On the 21st March, 1921.

Position.—Lat. 54° 38’ N., long. 4° 51’ W. (approx.).

Alteration.—From the above date the period of the fog-signal will be reduced from three minutes to ninety seconds, the siren being altered to sound two blasts of the same pitch, each of two and a half seconds’ duration, in quick succession, every ninety seconds.

Remarks.—No further notice will be given.

CALIFORNIA.

SANTA CRUZ LIGHT.—CHARACTERISTIC TO BE CHANGED.

About 15th May, 1921, the characteristic of Santa Cruz light will be changed to group flashing white every 15 seconds—thus, flash 1 second, eclipse 2 seconds ; flash 1 second, eclipse 2 seconds ; flash 1 second, eclipse 8 seconds.

Approx. position : 36° 57’ 9” N., 122° 1’ 34” W.

ANACAPA ISLAND LIGHT.—CHARACTERISTIC CHANGED.

On 13th February, 1921, the characteristic of Anacapa Island light was changed to flashing white every 20 seconds—flash 2 seconds, eclipse 18 seconds.

Approx. position : 34° 0’ 58” N., 119° 21’ 35” W.

SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.

WOODLARK ISLAND (MURUA).-SULOGA HARBOUR.-CAUTION WITH REGARD TO CHART No. 2995.

Position.—Mapas Island, lat. 9° 12’ S., long. 152° 49’ E. (approx.).

Caution.—The following cautionary note is to be inserted under the title of the plan of Suloga Harbour on Chart No. 2995, pending further information :—

CAUTION.

It is reported that the orientation of this plan is incorrect (1920), and that the true and magnetic meridians of the engraved compass rose are 21° in error in an easterly direction.

Note.—A note drawing attention to the above “Caution” is also to be inserted between the true and magnetic compass roses on the plan referred to.

VICTORIA.

PORTSEA GAS-BUOY, SOUTH CHANNEL, PORT PHILLIP.

Mariners are hereby notified that the Portsea gas-buoy will, as soon as possible, be shifted 300 ft. to the south-eastward of its present position, and will then occupy practically the official position as given on page 75; also that the least depth on the shoals lying 4½ cables south-westward of the gas-buoy is now only 22 ft. at low water.

Re Buoys, Port of Geelong, Port Phillip Bay.

Point Richards Buoy.—Notice is hereby given that on or about 14th March this buoy will be replaced in position, the temporary barge—the subject of Notice to Mariners No. 1 of 1921, dated 8th February, 1921—having been then removed.

ENGLAND.

SOUTH COAST.—TOR BAY.—BERRY HEAD LIGHT.—INTENDED ALTERATION IN DURATION OF FLASHES.
