TAURANGA HARBOUR.-LIGHT AT OUTER ENTRANCE.
Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 12th April, 1921.
MARINERS are hereby notified that on and after the
25th April an unwatched Aga flashing light, showing
one flash of one second duration followed by an eclipse of
7½ seconds, will be exhibited from an unpainted cylindrical
concrete structure surmounted by a dark-red painted steel
lattice-work tripod, the total height of which is 17·25 ft.,
which has been erected on North Rock at the outer entrance
to Tauranga Harbour.
The light, which is 39·5 ft. above high-water spring tides,
will show white between the north-east shore of Matakana
Island through south to 273°; thence red from one cable
off the most northern extension of Motu Otau Reef and the
intervening arc of the mainland to the south-eastward of
Mount Maunganui.
The red sector covers the foul ground off Motu Otau, and
vessels, other than those approaching Tauranga Harbour
from the south-eastward, should not enter the red sector. To
avoid the foul ground off Matakana Island vessels of fair
draught should not approach the light less than 195°.
The range of visibility is stated to be five miles, but owing
to its height it may be found to be visible beyond that distance.
The following publications are affected: Admiralty Chart
