The Shops and Offices Act, 1908.—Amended Notice specifying the Combined District of Wanganui.
P URSUANT to the provisions of section 10 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, I, William Herbert Herries, Minister of Labour, do hereby specify that the combined district of Wanganui comprises the Borough of Wanganui and the Town Districts of Gonville and Castlecliff.

THE following notices, received from the Mayor of the Council of the Borough of Thames, are published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

THAMES BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Results of Polls on Proposals to raise Loans.
Pursuant to section 12 of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Thames taken on the 30th day of November, 1920, on the proposal of the Thames Borough Council to borrow the sum of £98,000 for sanitary works, consisting of the construction and completion of a water-borne separate sewerage system for the whole of the Borough of Thames, including high-level reservoir and water-mains, pumping-plants, and outfall sewer, and including £6,000 for advances to owners of properties for installations and connections, the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 465, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 283; informal, 11.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.
Pursuant to section 12 of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Thames taken on the 30th day of November, 1920, on the proposal of the Thames Borough Council to borrow the sum of £70,350 for streets-improvements, &c., including reconstructing, regrading, surfacing, kerbing, channelling, draining, bridges, culverts, water-mains, purchase of lands, machinery, and plant, town-beautifying, and repayments to District Fund Account, within the Borough of Thames, the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 526, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 222; informal, 11.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

THE following notices, received from the Chairman of the Board of the Avondale Road District, are published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913.

AVONDALE ROAD BOARD.
Pursuant to section 12 of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers in a defined part of the Avondale Road District was taken on the 27th day of November, 1920, on the proposal of the Avondale Road Board to borrow the sum of £13,000 for the provision and laying of branch sewers and reticulation.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 94, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 28.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.
Pursuant to section 12 of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the Avondale Road District was taken on the 27th day of November, 1920, on the proposal of the Avondale Road Board to borrow the sum of £5,000 for purchase of quarry, road-roller, and crushing-plant.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 129, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 133.
I therefore declare that the proposal was rejected.
Pursuant to section 12 of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the Avondale Road District was taken on the 27th day of November, 1920, on the proposal of the Avondale Road Board to borrow the sum of £18,000 for providing, laying, and carrying out a main sewer.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 151, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 111.
I therefore declare that the proposal was rejected.
Pursuant to section 12 of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers in a defined part of the Avondale Road District was taken on the 27th day of November, 1920, on the proposal of the Avondale Road Board to borrow the sum of £14,000 for waterworks, mains, and reticulation.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 137, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 36.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

STRATFORD BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Special Loan of £129,500.
Pursuant to section 12 of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Stratford taken on the 22nd day of December, 1920, on the proposal of the Stratford Borough Council to borrow the sum of £129,500 for the following purposes, namely:—
(a.) To construct of concrete and other necessary materials a bridge on Broadway, across the Patea River, of the full width of the street . . . . 10,000
(b.) To extend and improve the borough drainage system, and in connection therewith to acquire lands, rights, easements, advantages, and appurtenances, and to provide all buildings, structures, engines, machinery, septic tanks, sewers, drain-pipes, and other things necessary for the good and efficient drainage of the borough; to pay compensation for any lands taken or injuriously affected; and for any other purposes incidental to or in relation to any of the foregoing purposes . . . 45,000
(c.) To make advances in connection with the execution of drainage and sanitary works on private properties, to be repaid by the owners thereof . . . . 5,000
(d.) To provide additions to and extensions and improvements of the waterworks, and in connection therewith to acquire lands, rights, easements, advantages, and appurtenances, and to provide buildings, structures, engines, machinery, settling-tanks, screens, filters, water-pipes, and other things; to pay compensation for any lands taken or injuriously affected; and for any other purposes incidental to or in relation to any of the foregoing purposes . . . 28,500
(e.) To improve the streets and footways of the borough by forming, constructing, grading, metalling, or tar-sealing the same, or by paving the same with concrete, tar macadam, or some other permanent material, or by kerbing and channelling the same, or by otherwise generally improving the same; and incidental thereto to purchase necessary machinery and plant . . . 35,000
(f.) To provide and erect a public weighbridge or weighing-machine within the borough . . . . 250
(g.) To provide for the preservation of the public health and convenience by the provision and erection within the borough of public water-closets and urinals, and other public conveniences and sanitary works . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 750
