THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

Position.—On the south end of the south-west Maatsuyker Isle. Lat. 43° 40′ S., long. 146° 17′ E., on Chart No. 1079.
Character.—Group flashing white light, showing two flashes every thirty seconds; duration of flashes about 2·6 seconds.
Power.—150,000 candles.
Remarks.—The other details of the light will remain unchanged.
Note.—No further notice will be given.

MEDITERRANEAN.
SUEZ CANAL.—PORT SAID.—LEADING-LIGHTS ESTABLISHED.
(a.) Front light :
Position.—On the western side of Abbas Hilma (Africa) Basin, and at a distance of about 10 yards eastward of the position of Lake Lighthouse as hitherto shown on Chart No. 234. Lat. 31° 15′ N., long. 32° 19′ E.
Abridged Description.—Lt. F., red, 97 ft., vis. 6 m.
Characteristics.—Character, fixed red; elevation, 97 ft.; visibility, 6 miles, from 207° to 229°; structure, grey iron framework tower 74 ft. in height.
(b.) Rear light :
Position.—At a distance of 1,024 yards, 217°, from front light.
Abridged Description.—Lt. F., 142 ft., vis. 7 m.
Characteristics.—Character, fixed white; elevation, 142 ft.; visibility, 7 miles; structure, grey iron framework tower.
Remarks.—These lights in line bearing 217° indicate the centre of the buoyed channel to Port Said.
Note.—The former Lake light is to be expunged from the charts and the position of the lighthouse amended as given above.

KAWHIA BAR.—LEADING-BEACONS.

Wellington, N.Z., 8th March, 1921.

NOTICE is hereby given that the leading-beacons for entering Kawhia Harbour have been re-established in the same position as that in which they formerly existed—viz., the beacon on the sandbank and that on the western extreme of Te Motu in line being 125 degrees. They lead over the bar in 13 ft. at mean low-water springs, and well clear of the south bank.

The following publications are affected: Admiralty Charts 2524 and 2535, “New Zealand Pilot,” eighth edition, 1908, page 224, and ninth edition, 1919, page 81.

Election of Members of Teachers’ Superannuation Board.

IN pursuance of regulations made under the Public Service Classification and Superannuation Amendment Act, 1908, I hereby certify that for the election of members of the Teachers’ Superannuation Board constituted by the said Act the following nominations were received:—

For the North Island: Charles Nelson Haslam and William Henry Newton.

For the South Island: Oscar Davis Flamank.

As the number of persons nominated does not exceed the number of vacancies to be filled, I hereby declare that the said Charles Nelson Haslam, William Henry Newton, and Oscar Davis Flamank are duly elected members of the said Board.

Lands in Southland Land District for Sale or Lease to Discharged Soldiers.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands are open for sale or lease under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and the regulations thereunder; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Invercargill, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Tuesday, the 19th April, 1921.

The lands may be selected for cash or on deferred payments, or selected on lease for sixty-six years, with right of renewal for further successive terms of sixty-six years and a right to acquire the freehold.

Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Invercargill, on Thursday, the 21st April, 1921, at 10 o’clock a.m.

The ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination of applicants.

SOUTHLAND LAND DISTRICT.

FIRST-CLASS LAND.

Southland County.—Town of Menzies Ferry.

SECTION 25, Block IV: Area, 41 acres 0 roods 34 perches; capital value, £1,340; annual instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £67; half-yearly rent on lease, £30 3s.

Weighted with £48, valuation for improvements.

Situated about four miles from Edendale and two miles and a half from Wyndham by good roads. Good quality dairying land, adjoining factory and adjacent to school, well watered, and free from flood risk; ring fenced, and subdivided into four paddocks.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Southland County.—Toetoes Survey District.

Section 16, Block III: Area, 225 acres 0 roods 11 perches; capital value, £225; annual instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £11 5s.; half-yearly rent on lease, £5 1s. 3d.

Hilly land, mostly covered with light bush. Soil fair to good, on loam and sandstone formation. About one-half ploughable when cleared. Situated ten miles from Waimahaka Railway-station. Road part gravelled and part formed for nine miles, and one mile unformed. Suitable for grazing and dairying when cleared.

Crown Land on Waiuku River for Lease by Public Tender.

NOTICE is hereby given that written tenders will be received at this office up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Friday, the 22nd day of April, 1921, for a lease of five years of the undermentioned land, under the provisions of section 130 of the Land Act, 1908, and amendments.

SCHEDULE.
NORTH AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.

RESERVE adjoining Sections 365 and 364, Waipipi Parish, at head of Awaruaiti Inlet, off Waiuku River. Area, 6¾ acres. Easy undulating land, rough grass. Soil heavy chocolate loam, suitable for vegetable growing. Minimum annual rental, £12.

CONDITIONS OF LEASE.

  1. Lease to be for grazing or vegetable-growing purposes only, and subject to resumption at six months’ notice.

  2. The lessee shall have no right to compensation either for improvements put on the land or on account of the aforesaid resumption, or for any other cause; but he may, on the expiration or sooner determination of the lease, remove all buildings or fences erected by him, but not otherwise. The lessee shall plough the whole area and put down in grass the area not used for a vegetable garden.

  3. The lessee shall not sublet, transfer, or otherwise dispose of his interest in the lease without the written consent of the Commissioner of Crown Lands.
