Result of Election of a Trustee of a Drainage District.

THE following result of the election of a trustee of a drainage district has been received from the Returning Officer, and is published in accordance with the provisions of the Land Drainage Act, 1908.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of all the Second-hand Dealers’ Shops in the Borough of Petone, under the Shops and Offices Act, 1908.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the second-hand dealers’ shops in the Borough of Petone, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 6 p.m., and on Fridays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions:—
(1.) On the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and on the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m. ;
(2.) Subject to the provisions of exception (1) hereof, on the working-day immediately preceding any of the special days mentioned in or coming within the meaning of section 19 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m. ;
(3.) Should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 19 of the above-mentioned Act, any day other than Saturday as the statutory closing-day in any week, then and in such case the closing-hour for any such shop on Saturday in that week shall be 6 p.m. :
And whereas the Petone Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the second-hand dealers’ shops within the Borough of Petone :
Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 9th day of December, 1920, all the second-hand dealers’ shops within the Borough of Petone shall be closed accordingly.
The notice gazetted on the 29th day of May, 1919, fixing the closing-hours of second-hand dealers’ shops in the Borough of Petone shall be deemed to be cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Bakers’ Shops in the Borough of Palmerston, under the Shops and Offices Act, 1908.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the bakers’ shops in the Borough of Palmerston, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 6 p.m., and on Saturdays at 11 p.m. :
And whereas the Palmerston Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the bakers’ shops within the Borough of Palmerston :
Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 19th day of December, 1920, all the bakers’ shops in the Borough of Palmerston shall be closed accordingly.
The notice gazetted on the 28th October, 1920, fixing the closing-hours of all the shops in the Borough of Palmerston is hereby superseded in so far as it relates to the shops affected by this notice as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Block V, Tuhua Survey District, for the Purposes of a Road.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, to execute a certain public work—to wit, the construction of a road in Block V, Tuhua Survey District; and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Ongarue, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.

SCHEDULE.

APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land required to be taken: 14 perches.
Portion of Rangitoto-Tuhua 77r No. 1a Section 1, Block V, Tuhua Survey District. (S.O. 20051.)

In the Auckland Land District; as the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 49568, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon coloured purple.

Southland Education Board.—Election of Members to fill Extraordinary Vacancies.

IN accordance with the provisions of the Education Act, 1914, it is hereby publicly notified that the following persons have been duly elected to fill the extraordinary vacancies on the Board for the Invercargill Urban Area and the East Ward, caused by the resignations of Messrs. F. W. Gresham and A. J. Nichol, respectively :—

Invercargill Urban Area: Frederick George Blake.
East Ward: Hugh Smith.

The number of valid votes recorded for each candidate in the contested election for the East Ward was:—
Smith, Hugh . . . . . . 95
Bennet, Charles . . . . . . 71

The total number of valid votes recorded was 166. The number of voting-papers rejected as informal was 14.

GREVILLE HARBOUR, D’URVILLE ISLAND.—ROCK AT ENTRANCE.

NOTICE is hereby given that Captain Bollons, of the Government steamer “Hinemoa,” when leaving Greville Harbour sighted an uncharted rock, situated 58° (N. 41⅓° E. mag.) two cables distant from Entrance Rock, off Ragged Point. The rock has 1 ft. of water on it at low-water ordinary spring tides.
The symbol for a rock with less than 6 ft. of water on it should be inserted on the charts in the above position.
