  1. Clause 11 is hereby amended by substituting in subclause (2) the figures “£100” for “£85,” and “£30” for “£25”; and by the addition of the following words “provided that there shall be a further addition of £5 to the allowance payable to male students.”

  2. Clause 12 is hereby amended by substituting in subclause (2) the figures “£80” for “£65,” and “£30” for “£25”; and by the addition of the following words “provided that there shall be a further addition of £5 to the allowance payable to male students.”

  3. Clause 16 of the regulations is hereby amended by substituting in paragraph (a) the word “eight” for the word “six,” and by substituting in paragraph (b) the word “six” for the word “four.”

  4. Clause 19 is hereby amended by inserting the figures “£250” for “£150.”

  5. (1.) Subclause (1) of clause 33 is hereby amended by inserting, after the word “appointed,” the words “for a period not exceeding two years”; and by substituting the figures “£170–£200” for “£140–£170.”

(2.) Subclause (2) of clause 33 is hereby amended by substituting the figures “£160” for “£140.”

(3.) Subclause (3) of clause 33 is hereby amended by omitting the words “if he is appointed,” and substituting therefor the words “on his first permanent appointment.”

IX.—PUPIL-TEACHERS AND PROBATIONERS.

The regulations made by Order in Council dated 17th December, 1918, relating to pupil-teachers and probationers, as amended by subsequent Orders in Council, are hereby further amended as follows:—

  1. Clause 1 is hereby amended by omitting from subclause (2) the words “to the nearest convenient school,” and substituting “as far as possible to the school nearest his place of residence.”

  2. Clause 2 is hereby amended by substituting the figures “450” for “500,” and the word “four” for the word “three.”

  3. Clause 3 is hereby amended by revoking subclause (3).

  4. Clause 5 is hereby amended (a) by revoking subclause (1), and substituting therefor the following:—

“(1.) Subject to any modification hereinafter made, the term of service of a probationer or pupil-teacher shall be two years, and during the first year he shall rank in the second grade and during the second year in the first grade.”

(b.) By revoking subclauses (3) and (4).

(c.) By omitting from subclause (5) all the words after “exceed,” and by substituting therefor the words “three years.”

  1. Clause 6 is hereby amended by the addition of the words “provided that as from the 1st April, 1920, pupil-teachers who were in the third year of their service before the coming into force of this Order in Council shall be deemed to be pupil-teachers of the first grade.”

  2. Clause 8 is hereby amended (a) by revoking subclauses (1) and (2), and substituting therefor -

“(1.) The allowances payable to probationers and pupil-teachers shall be as follows: For the first year £90 per annum, for the second or third year £95 per annum, with an addition of £5 per annum in the case of a male pupil-teacher or probationer.”

(b.) By substituting in subclause (3) the figures “£30” for “£25.”

  1. Clause 15 is hereby amended by substituting the words “four hours” for “three hours.”

X.—ORGANIZING TEACHERS.

The regulations relating to organizing teachers made by Order in Council dated 29th April, 1919, as amended by Order in Council dated 17th November, 1919, are hereby repealed, and the following substituted therefor:—

  1. The powers and duties of an organizing teacher shall be as follows:—

(a.) To assist the head or sole teacher of the schools placed under his supervision with regard to organization, schemes of work, methods of teaching, and other matters affecting the efficiency of the school. Also to advise and direct uncertificated teachers with regard to their courses of study.

(b.) To visit regularly each of the schools under his supervision, and to illustrate by actual teaching the matters concerning which he has advised the head or sole teacher.

(c.) To take charge as occasion arises of the whole of the school work in any school under his supervision for a longer or shorter period, not exceeding one week at any one time; and to this end he shall, for such period, be deemed to possess all the powers of the head or sole teacher of the school.
