VII.—NATIVE SCHOOLS.
The regulations for Native schools made by the Order in Council dated 17th November, 1919, are hereby amended as follows:—
- By revoking Schedule I, and substituting the following:—

“NOTE.—In addition to the salary payable above, there shall be added by way of salary the sum of £35 per annum in the case of every assistant teacher who is obliged to live away from home.”
- By revoking the proviso to subclause (3) of clause 2, and substituting:—
“Provided that such addition to salary shall be calculated as if a certified assistant in a Native school receiving a salary of £165–£175 were graded in Group 1, or an assistant receiving £175–£195 in Group 2.”
- By deleting subclauses (4) and (5) of clause 2, and substituting:—
“(4.) Clause 3 of these regulations relating to the salaries of public-school teachers shall apply, mutatis mutandis, to assistant teachers holding positions in Native schools to which are attached salaries of £165–£175 or £175–£195. Every other assistant teacher shall receive as from 1st April, 1920, an increase in his salary of £20 per annum.”
VIII.—TRAINING COLLEGES.
The regulations relating to training colleges in force at the coming into operation of this Order are hereby amended as follows:—

Clause 4 is hereby amended by omitting from paragraph (b) (iv) of subclause (1) the words “a class of backward,” and by inserting in lieu thereof the words “a special class of.”

Clause 7 is hereby revoked, and the following substituted therefor:—
“7. (1.) In addition to the staff of the normal school the following shall be the staff of the training college:—
(a.) Principal of the training college, who shall have general control of the training college and of the normal school attached thereto, and who shall, with the concurrence of the University college, act as Professor or Lecturer on Education at the University College. Salary, £700 per annum, rising to £750 per annum by annual increments of £25.
(b.) A Vice-Principal of the training college, who shall assist the Principal in the control and management of the training college and act as Lecturer or Assistant Lecturer in subjects of the approved curriculum for students: Salary, £550 per annum, rising to £625 per annum by annual increments of £25.
(c.) One or more additional assistant lecturers as approved by the Minister. Salary, not exceeding in any case £450 per annum, rising to £500 per annum by annual increments of £10.
(d.) Tutor and Librarian. Salary, £380 per annum.
(2.) The following shall be the staff of the “main school” of the normal school:—
(i.) Headmaster, who shall act as supervisor of students practising in his school, and who shall, if required, act as lecturer on Method or some suitable subject or subjects of the curriculum of students. The headmaster shall receive a salary of £540 per annum, rising to £590 per annum by annual increments of £25, and a house allowance of £60 per annum: Provided that in these regulations the term “headmaster” shall be deemed to include the term “headmistress.”
