Timber in Wellington Land District for Sale by Public Tender.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Wellington, 20th September, 1920.

NOTICE is hereby given that written tenders, endorsed on the outside “Tender for Timber,” will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Wednesday, 27th October, 1920, for the purchase of the undermentioned milling-timber.

SCHEDULE.

WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT.

1,080,700 superficial feet. Part of Lot 2, plan 83/38, being parts of Section 28, Block VIII, Makotuku Survey District.

Comprising all the timber on the parcels of land, containing approximately 15 acres and 4 acres, as shown on the sale plan: Rimu, 745,200 sup. ft.; matai, 77,000 sup. ft.; kahikatea, 258,500 sup. ft.; total, 1,080,700 sup. ft.

Upset price, £1,620.

CONDITIONS OF SALE.

  1. Intending purchasers are expected to visit the locality and to satisfy themselves in every particular on all matters relating to the sale.

  2. The aforementioned quantities of timber shall be taken as sufficiently accurate for the purpose of this sale, and no contract for purchase shall be voidable, nor shall the purchaser be entitled to any abatement in price, by reason of the said timber being of less quantity than as stated herein, or in any advertisement having reference to the said timber.

  3. The boundaries of the land containing the timber are shown approximately on the plan, but should any dispute arise as to boundaries the decision of the Commissioner of Crown Lands shall be final.

  4. Every precaution must be taken by the purchaser to prevent fires occurring in the bush referred to herein or in the standing bush adjoining, and the purchaser will be held liable for any breach of this condition by himself or his agents or workmen.

  5. Time for removal of timber, one year and a half. Milling operations to be commenced within two months from date of acceptance of tender, and thereafter to be continuous.

  6. Terms of Payment.—One-tenth to be deposited with tender, together with £1 1s. license fee. Purchaser will be required to pay the balance within thirty days, or to give security by way of promissory notes, each payable on demand, made and endorsed to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of Crown Lands. The promissory notes will be presented at intervals of three months, but they may be presented for payment at earlier dates if more than a due proportion of timber is found to be cut, or if in the opinion of the Commissioner of Crown Lands the interests of the Crown are jeopardized. Interest at the rate of 5 per cent. per annum will be charged from date of sale on all instalment payments.

  7. The purchaser shall not put, throw, or place, or allow to be put, thrown, or placed, into any river, stream, or watercourse, or into any place where it may be washed into any river, stream, or watercourse, any sawdust or other sawmill refuse.

  8. After the barrels of the trees have been milled all remaining timber that can be utilized for firewood shall be cut and removed.

  9. Any breach of the within conditions will render the license liable to forfeiture.

  10. The highest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted.

Land in the Canterbury Land District for Sale or Lease to Discharged Soldiers.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Christchurch, 21st September, 1920.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned land will be offered for sale or lease under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and the regulations thereunder; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, the 22nd day of November, 1920.

The lands may be purchased for cash or on deferred payments, or selected on lease for a term of sixty-six years, with right of renewal for further terms of sixty-six years and a right to acquire the freehold.

Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch, on Thursday, the 25th day of November, 1920.

The ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination of applicants.

SCHEDULE.

CANTERBURY LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Waimate County.—Waitaki Survey District.

SECTION 34375, Block VIII: Area, 313 acres; capital value, £2,400; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £120; half-yearly rent on lease, £54.

This section comprises three paddocks in old grass. The gorse hedges require trimming, and there are a few Californian thistles. Watered by county water-races. Situated about two miles and a half from Morven Railway-station by good road.

Section 34376, Blocks XI and XII: Area, 232 acres; capital value, £1,800; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £90; half-yearly rent on lease, £40 10s.

This section comprises two paddocks in old grass. The gorse hedges require trimming. Watered by county water-races. Situated about two miles and a half from Glenavy Railway-station by good road.

IMPROVEMENTS.

The improvements which do not go with the land, but which have to be paid for in cash before possession is given, are:—

Section 34375.—Weighted with £140 10s. for 281 chains of boundary and subdivisional fencing.

Section 34376.—Weighted with £80 for 177 chains of boundary and subdivisional fencing.

These amounts, however, may, with the approval of the Land Board, be treated as advances.

SCHEDULE.

AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Moerangi Block.—Kawhia County.—Section 17, Block XIV, Karioi Survey District.

AREA, 390 acres; capital value, £2,860; annual instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £143; half-yearly rent on lease, £64 7s.

IMPROVEMENTS.

The improvements which are included in the capital value are as follows: Bushfelling (whole area), 340 acres grass, 140 chains fencing, sheep-yards, and shanty.

LOCALITY AND DESCRIPTION OF LAND.

Altitude, 80 ft. to 500 ft. above sea-level. Small flat fronting road, balance hilly country. Soil sandy loam, on sandstone formation; fairly well watered by streams. Distant about twelve miles from Kawhia by formed road.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS.

The land is offered for selection subject to the following conditions:—

  1. The right is reserved to the Commissioner of Crown Lands to use existing tracks pending the opening of the surveyed roads.

  2. The right of taking gravel or stone for road-construction purposes from any streams passing through or bounding the section, together with the right of access to such streams for the purpose of obtaining gravel or stone as aforesaid, is reserved in favour of the Crown and of the local body.
