BIRTHS.
The births registered during June quarter numbered 7,412, a decrease of 119 on the number for the preceding quarter, but an increase of 1,276 when compared with June quarter, 1919. The birth-rate for the six months ended 30th June is equal to an annual rate of 25·51 per 1,000 of mean population, as compared with a rate of only 21·55 for the year 1919.

The arrivals during the month of July, 1920, exceeded the departures by 664. In the corresponding month of 1919 there was an excess of arrivals over departures of 770.
