Notice respecting Proposed Alteration of Boundaries of the Borough of Carterton.

Wellington, 14th July, 1920.
PURSUANT to section 14 of the Municipal Corporations Amendment Act, 1913, it is hereby notified that a petition, in accordance with regulations, signed by not less than one-fourth of the electors of the area described in the Schedule hereto, being part of the Borough of Carterton, has been presented to His Excellency the Governor-General, praying that the said area may be excluded from the said borough and included in the County of Wairarapa South. All persons affected are hereby called upon to lodge any written objections to or petitions against the proposed alteration within one month from the first publication of this notice. Such objections or petitions are to be addressed and forwarded to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Wellington.
SCHEDULE.
AREA PROPOSED TO BE EXCLUDED FROM THE BOROUGH OF CARTERTON.
ALL that area in the Wellington Land District bounded towards the north-west by the Wairarapa South County from Brooklyn Road to Kent Street; towards the north-east by Kent Street to the easternmost corner of Section 173, Taratahi Plains Block; towards the south-east by the north-western boundary of Section 206, Taratahi Plains Block, and Lincoln Road to Brooklyn Road; and towards the south-west by Brooklyn Road.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Block VI, Rotoiti Survey District, for Electrical Works and Telephone-line.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, to execute a certain public work—to wit, the construction of electrical works and telephone-line in Block VI, Rotoiti Survey District; and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Rotorua, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.

IN pursuance of the powers conferred upon me by the Post and Telegraph Act, 1908 (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), and by the regulations made on the 12th May, 1914, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 21st May, 1914, the following officer at the address set against his name is hereby appointed a Transmitting and Receiving Officer for the purpose of dealing with all notices by telegraph sent under the said Act or regulations, and of signing such certificates in relation to the service of any such notices as are required or authorized to be signed or given under the said Act or the regulations aforesaid:—

Bonus for the Production of Quicksilver.

Wellington, 9th July, 1920.
NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of fourpence (4d.) per pound will be paid on the production of the first one hundred thousand pounds weight (100,000 lb.) of good marketable retorted quicksilver, free from all impurities, from any mine in New Zealand, on the following conditions, that is to say:—
(1.) That at least one-half of the quantity is produced on or before the 30th September, 1920, and the remaining half on or before the 31st March, 1923.
(2.) The first instalment of the bonus will be paid when fifty thousand pounds (50,000 lb.) of quicksilver has been produced, as stipulated to the satisfaction of an officer to be appointed by the Minister of Mines, and on whose certificate alone the bonus will be paid.
(3.) In the event of more than one person producing the required quantities of quicksilver before the dates named, inquiry will be made by the officer above referred to, when, if it is found that each applicant is equally entitled to a bonus, the amount will be divided in proportion to the quantities produced by each applicant, but in no case shall any bonus be paid until at least fifty thousand pounds (50,000 lb.) of quicksilver has been produced in the aggregate.

Notice of Date of Examinations for the Public Service.—Public Service Examinations.
Office of Public Service Commissioner,
Wellington, 10th July, 1920.
NOTICE is hereby given of the intention to hold Public Service Examinations as follows, namely:—
The Public Service Entrance Examination: On or about the 22nd November, 1920, and following days.
The Public Service Senior Examination: On or about the 5th January, 1921, and following days.
For the Entrance Examination a fee of £1 is payable, but this fee will be refunded if a candidate is successful in passing the examination and accepts employment in the Public Service.
Those officers who, owing to their absence with the Expeditionary Force, were unable to complete the Public Service Senior Examination earlier will be given an opportunity of completing the Senior Examination in January, 1921.
Apart from returned soldiers only those who were unsuccessful in completing the Public Service Senior Examination of January, 1919, may be permitted to enter for the examination in January, 1921, and if successful in completing will be regarded as having passed the Senior Examination for the purposes of Public Service Regulation 201.
Entries for the Public Service Entrance Examination and the Public Service Senior Examination must be addressed “The Director of Education, Wellington,” and be sent so as to reach his office on or before the 8th September, 1920, and 15th October, 1920, respectively. Both male and female candidates will be admitted to the Entrance Examination.
Late applications for the Entrance Examination will be received up to the 22nd September if accompanied by a receipt for a late fee of 10s. (in addition to the £1 ordinarily payable) paid at some money-order office of the Post and Telegraph Department.
Late applications for the Senior Examination will be received up to the 31st October if accompanied by a receipt for a late fee of £1 paid at some money-order office of the Post and Telegraph Department.
All entries must be made on the proper forms, which may be obtained shortly from the office of the Public Service Commissioner, or of the Education Department, or of any Education Board.

Junior National Scholarship (candidates for Junior Free Places who will be over fifteen on the 1st December next must now take this examination): 30th November and 1st December, 1920,
