Results of Polls for Proposed Loans.

Wellington, 14th July, 1920.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Feilding, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913.

BOROUGH OF FEILDING.

Results of Polls on Proposals to raise Loans.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of ratepayers of the Borough of Feilding was taken on the 7th day of July, 1920, on the following proposals of the Feilding Borough Council:-

(1.) To borrow the sum of £17,500 for the purpose of reconstructing and tar-sealing the roads of the borough.

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 196, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 279; informal, 13.

I therefore declare that the proposal was rejected.

(2.) To borrow the sum of £14,000 for the purpose of installing additional plant in connection with the electric-lighting system, and to pay for portion of plant already purchased out of overdraft.

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 362, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 116; informal, 10.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

(3.) To borrow the sum of £3,500 for the purpose of erecting a memorial to fallen soldiers.

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 231, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 243; informal, 14.

I therefore declare that the proposal was rejected.

(4.) To borrow the sum of £2,500 for the purpose of purchasing road machinery.

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 236, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 240; informal, 12.

I therefore declare that the proposal was rejected.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of (1) Hairdressers' and (2) Tobacconists' Shops in the City of Auckland, under the Shops and Offices Act, 1908.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist in the City of Auckland, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the city shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Subject to the closing at not later than 1 p.m. on the day observed as the statutory closing-day, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 7 p.m., on Fridays at 9 p.m., and on Saturdays at 10 p.m., with the following exceptions,-

(1.) On the working-days other than those observed as the statutory closing-days in the period from the 15th day of December to the 9th day of January of the following year, both days inclusive, the closing-hour shall be 10 p.m.;

(2.) On the working-days immediately preceding any of the special days mentioned in section 19 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, the closing-hour shall be 10 p.m.;

(3.) Should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe Saturday as the statutory closing-day in any week, then and in such case the closing-hour on Friday for any such shop in that week shall be 9 p.m., and on Wednesday at 10 p.m.;

(4.) Should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 18 (b) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, Friday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Thursday for any such shop shall be 9 p.m.:

And whereas the Auckland City Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist within the City of Auckland:

Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 26th day of July, 1920, all the shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist within the City of Auckland shall be closed accordingly.

The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 26th June, 1919, fixing the closing-hours of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist in the City of Auckland is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Block XVI, Punakitere Survey District, for the Purposes of a Native School.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, to execute a certain public work-to wit, the construction of a Native school in Block XVI, Punakitere Survey District; and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Kaikohe, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.

SCHEDULE.

APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land required to be taken: 10 acres.

Portion of part Awarua Block, Block XVI, Punakitere Survey District. (S.O. 20837.)

In the North Auckland Land District; as the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 48772, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon coloured red.

Notice of Intention to take Land in the Borough of Palmerston North for the Purposes of a Show-ground.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, and section 50 of the Reserves and other Lands Disposal and Public Bodies Empowering Act, 1919, to take the land described in the Schedule hereto for the purposes of a show-ground. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Palmerston North, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.

SCHEDULE.

APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land required to be taken: 1 acre 3 roods 8 perches.

Being Allotments 2 and 3 of Suburban Section 295, Township of Palmerston, situated in the Borough of Palmerston North.

In the Wellington Land District; as the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 36024, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon coloured red.
