JUNE 4.] THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE. 1871
The notices published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 5th August, 1915, and the 8th November, 1917, fixing the closing-hours of pork-butchers’ shops and pork-butchers’ and cooked-meat shops respectively in the City of Auckland are hereby cancelled as from the date of coming into operation of this notice.

Amending Regulations for Carriage of Deck Cargo.
WHEREAS by Warrant dated the 26th day of April, 1911, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 36, of the 4th day of May following, regulations were made governing the issue of licenses for the carriage of deck cargo and live-stock on the decks of vessels:
And whereas it is desirable to amend the said regulations:
Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Minister of Marine, in exercise of the power and authority conferred upon me by section 223 of the Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908, do hereby make the following amending regulations.
REGULATIONS.
DIVISION B, CLASS I.—FOREIGN-GOING STEAMSHIPS CARRYING PASSENGERS AND CARGO. (Page 14.)
- PARAGRAPH 1 is hereby revoked, and the following substituted therefor:—
“1. Foreign-going steamships carrying passengers and cargo will be granted licenses for carrying coal on deck for ship’s use and for other approved cargo, when applied for, subject to the General Rules and Regulations and to the conditions herein stated. Such licenses shall be special.”

Paragraph 2 is hereby amended by adding, after the word “voyage” and the words “coal on deck” respectively, the words “and other approved cargo.”

Paragraph 4 is hereby revoked, and the following paragraph substituted therefor:—
“4. These licenses will be granted to foreign-going steamships with passengers, if approved of by the Superintendent, to carry an amount of coal on deck for ship’s use, and for other approved cargo; provided that the quantity of the said coal and approved cargo shall not in the aggregate exceed 5 per cent. of the net register tonnage of the ship. Such coal can be stowed in bulk or in bags as desired.”
- After paragraph 4 add the following paragraph:—
“4A. Approved deck cargo shall mean and include such deck cargo as is approved by the Superintendent, and shall not mean or include such cargo as casks of pelts or similar goods.”

Rangitaiki Land Drainage District.—Penalty on Overdue Rates.
IN pursuance of section 28 of the Rating Amendment Act, 1910, and the regulations under the Rangitaiki Land Drainage Act, 1910, the ratepayers within the district constituted by the last-mentioned Act are hereby notified that 10 per cent. additional will be added to all rates for the year ended 31st March, 1920, unpaid on the 5th July, 1920.
Rates may be paid at any money-order office.

Hauraki Plains Rating District.—Penalty on Overdue Rates.
IN pursuance of section 28 of the Rating Amendment Act, 1910, and the Hauraki Plains Act, 1908, the ratepayers within the district constituted by the last-mentioned Act are hereby notified that 10 per cent. additional will be added to all rates for the year ended 31st March, 1920, unpaid on the 5th July, 1920.
Rates may be paid at any money-order office.

Establishment of Probation Home for Boys.

Wellington, 25th May, 1920.
BY virtue of the powers vested in me by section 10 of the Statute Law Amendment Act, 1917, I, Christopher James Parr, Minister of Education, do hereby declare the Boys’ Probation Home, Dunedin (an industrial school within the meaning of the Industrial Schools Act, 1908), situated at Anderson’s Bay, Dunedin, to be a probation home for boys.

Establishment of a Government Industrial School.

BY virtue of the powers vested in me by sections 4 and 12 of the Industrial Schools Act, 1908, I, Christopher James Parr, Minister of Education, do hereby notify that I have established at Anderson’s Bay, Dunedin, a Government industrial school, under the name of the Boys’ Probation Home, Dunedin.

Special Books in Languages and Literature for the Teachers’ Class C Certificate Examination, 1921 and 1922.

IN pursuance of regulations under the Education Act, 1914, notice is hereby given that at the Teachers’ Class C Certificate Examination of January, 1921, and January, 1922, respectively, the special books of which a knowledge will be required will be as follows:—
(a.) January, 1921.
ENGLISH.—Wordsworth, edited by Matthew Arnold (“Golden Treasury Series”); Shelley, “Adonais”; Lamb, “Essays of Elia” (First Series); Thackeray, “Esmond.” In addition, a knowledge of the period of literature 1798 to 1840 will be required. Special attention must be paid to Wordsworth, Coleridge, Byron, Keats, Shelley, Scott, Lamb, Macaulay, and Carlyle; but the other authors in the period are not to be neglected. The literary movements and their leaders, the current types and forms of literature and their representatives, as well as the influence of the ancient classics and of the leading Continental literatures on the English literature of the period, must also be examined.
GREEK.—Plato, “Apology and Crito”; Aristophanes, “Clouds.” As an alternative to Aristophanes “Clouds” candidates for the examination in 1921 may read Euripides, “Hecuba.”
LATIN.—Tacitus, “Agricola and Germania”; Virgil, “Georgics IV.” As an alternative to Tacitus, “Agricola and Germania” candidates for the examination in 1921 may read Cicero, “Pro Murena.”
FRENCH.—Balzac, “Les Chouans”; Hugo, “Hernani”; Molière, “Les Femmes Savantes.”
GERMAN.—Goethe, “Götz von Berlichingen”; Schiller, “Jungfrau von Orleans”; Fouqué, “Undine.”
ITALIAN.—Manzoni, “I Promessi Sposi.”
SPANISH.—Ayala, Campredon, and Eguilaz, “Teatro Moderno Español” (David Nutt); Alarcon, “El Niño de la Bola.”
(b.) January, 1922.
ENGLISH.—Shakespeare, “Macbeth,” “The Tempest”; Spenser, “Faery Queen,” Book I; Bacon, Essays; George Eliot, “Romola.” In addition, a knowledge of the period of literature 1579 to 1625 will be required. Special attention must be paid to Marlowe, Shakespeare, Spenser, Sidney, Bacon, and Jonson; but the other authors of the period are not to be neglected. The literary movements and their leaders, the current types and forms of literature and their representatives, as well as the influence of the ancient classics and of the leading Continental literatures on the English literature of the period must also be examined. Candidates must have some acquaintance with the general outlines of English literature, including a knowledge and appreciation of the thought and style of standard English authors from Shakespeare to Tennyson.

Sale of Property by the Public Trustee.
To JAMES CAMPBELL, formerly of Wanstead, near Waipukurau, in the Provincial District of Hawke’s Bay, in the Dominion of New Zealand, Labourer, but whose present whereabouts are unknown, and all persons claiming by, through, or under him.
NOTICE is hereby given, pursuant to the provisions of section 89 of the Public Trust Office Act, 1908, that, acting under an order made by His Honour the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court on the 10th day of May, 1919, the Public Trustee has sold the property of the above-named James Campbell, consisting of a cottage and 2 roods of land, being Sections 110 and 111, Wanstead Township, for the sum of fifty pounds (£50), and that under the authority of a subsequent order made by His Honour the Chief Justice on the 30th day of April, 1920, the Public Trustee intends to apply the proceeds of such sale in the maintenance of Jane Campbell, wife of the said James Campbell.
