NOTICES TO MARINERS.—TRUE BEARINGS ONLY TO BE GIVEN.
Notice is given that on and after the 1st April, 1920, it has been decided to give the bearings in Admiralty Notices to Mariners as “true” only, in degrees from 0° (north) to 360° reckoned clockwise.
The practice at present in force of giving magnetic bearings in addition to true will be discontinued.
Note.—Should the special nature of a notice, however, at any time necessitate the use of magnetic bearings in addition to true, they will be given in a similar manner as hitherto.

LIST OF LIGHTS.—ALTERATIONS IN CLASSIFICATION OF CHARACTERISTICS OF LIGHTS.
In future the following changes will be made in describing the characteristics of the types of lights indicated below:—
(a.) The definition “revolving” will be abolished, and this type of light will be described as “flashing.”
(b.) The present definition of “period” as given for alternating lights will be discarded, and the definition of period will be as follows:—
“Period is the interval between successive commencements of the same phase—i.e., in a flashing light the interval between the commencement of one flash and the commencement of the succeeding flash; and in alternating, occulting, or group flashing light, &c., the time occupied by the exhibition of the entire system of changes included in the same phase.”
Note.—These changes will appear in the Admiralty List of Lights for the year 1921, and the charts will be corrected as opportunity offers.
