Result of Election of Trustees of a Drainage District.

THE following result of the election of trustees of a drainage district has been received from the Returning Officer, and is published in accordance with the provisions of the Land Drainage Act, 1908.

THE Clerk of the Writs has received a return to the writ issued on the 25th day of March, 1920, for the election of a member of Parliament to serve in the House of Representatives for the Electoral District of Bruce, and by the endorsement on such writ it appears that

BLUFF HARBOUR.—MIDDLE BANK BEACONS.

THE Bluff Harbour Board has notified the Marine Department that the height of the rear Middle Bank dolphin and the white light thereon has been increased 10 ft.

Notice to Mariners.—No. 17 of 1920.

AUCKLAND HARBOUR.—DEVONPORT SANDSPIT BEACON DAMAGED.

Wellington, N.Z., 27th April, 1920.

THE Auckland Harbour Board has notified that on the 21st April, 1920, a vessel, name unknown, collided with the Sandspit beacon off Devonport, sweeping away the flashing red light on the beacon.

A red fixed light will be placed on the beacon until repairs are effected.

THE following Notices to Mariners, which have been received from the Hydrographic Office, London, and the Department of Trade and Customs, Melbourne, are published for general information.

ENGLAND.

EAST COAST.—RIVER THAMES APPROACH, SOUTH EDINBURGH CHANNEL.—NORTH-EAST SHINGLES LIGHT-BUOY.—INTENDED ALTERATION IN LIGHT.

Date of Alteration.—On or about 17th February, 1920.

Position.—At a distance of about half a mile northward from the North Shingles beacon. Lat. 51° 32½′ N., long. 1° 15′ E.

Alteration.—The group flashing red light on this light-buoy will be replaced by an alternating flashing white and red light every five seconds.

Note.—No further notice will be given.

WEST COAST.—BRISTOL CHANNEL.—LUNDY ISLAND.—WRECK WESTWARD OF.

Position (approximate).—At a distance of about 9½ miles westward from Lundy Island south light. Lat. 51° 7′ 00″ N., long. 4° 54′ 00″ W.

Description.—Sunken wreck of the s.s. “Glenart Castle.”

Remarks.—The s.s. “Pedro Christopherson” reported a mast showing about 7 ft. above water in the vicinity of the above position on 18th January, 1920.

Note.—The year date “(1918)” is to be placed against this wreck on the charts.

IRELAND.

NORTH COAST.—RATHLIN ISLAND.—RUE POINT.—LIGHT AND FOG-SIGNAL TO BE DISCONTINUED.

Former Notice.—No. 2226 of 1919.

Date of Discontinuance.—Shortly.

Position.—Lat. 55° 15¾′ N., long. 6° 11¼′ W.

Character of Light.—A group flashing white light.

Description of Fog-signal.—An explosive report.

Remarks.—The above light and fog-signal will be permanently discontinued and are to be expunged from the charts.

Note.—No further notice will be given.

NORTH-WEST COAST.—EAGLE ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE.—FOG-SIGNAL TO BE DISCONTINUED.

Date of Discontinuance.—Shortly.

Position—Lat. 54° 16¾′ N., long. 10° 5¼′ W.

Description.—An explosive signal.

Note.—No further notice will be given.

UNITED STATES.

ATLANTIC COAST.—NORTH CAROLINA.—FRYING PAN SHOALS LIGHT-VESSEL.—ALTERATION IN CHARACTERISTICS.

Position.—Lat. 33° 34′ N., long. 77° 48¾′ W.

(a.) Light.

New Abridged Description.—Lt. gp. fl. (4), ev. 90 secs., 63 ft. 13 m.

Details.—The fixed white light has been replaced by a light having the undermentioned characteristics :—

Character.—A group flashing white light showing four flashes every thirty seconds, thus—flash 2 secs., eclipse 1 sec.; flash 2 secs., eclipse 5 secs.; flash 2 secs., eclipse 1 sec.; flash 2 secs., eclipse 15 secs.

Elevation.—63 ft.

Visibility.—13 miles.

Power.—1,200 candles.

(b.) Fog-signal.

Description.—As described in the Admiralty List of Lights

Note.—The alternative fog-signal, a bell, is also to be shown on the charts.

PACIFIC COAST.—CALIFORNIA.—SAN DIEGO BAY.—LIGHT-AND-WHISTLE BUOY ESTABLISHED.—WHISTLE-BUOY WITHDRAWN.

(1.) Light-and-whistle buoy :

Position.—At a distance of about 2¼ miles southward from Point Loma Lighthouse. Lat. 32° 37′ 22″ N., long. 117° 14′ 45″ W.

Description.—A can light-and-whistle buoy, with framework superstructure, painted black and numbered “1A,” exhibiting a flashing white light every five seconds, thus—flash 1 sec., eclipse 4 secs.

(2.) Whistle-buoy withdrawn :

Position.—At a distance of about 1¼ miles south-eastward from the position given in (1) above.

Details.—The black and white vertically striped whistle-buoy has been permanently withdrawn.

CANADA.

BRITISH COLUMBIA.—VANCOUVER ISLAND.—ESQUIMALT HARBOUR.—INFORMATION WITH REGARD TO SHOAL DEPTHS.

Position.—Fisgard Island Lighthouse, lat. 48° 25¾′ N., long. 123° 26¾′ W.

Details.—Shoals exist in Constance Cove and near the entrance to Esquimalt Harbour, as follows :—

Distance and Bearing from Fisgard Island Lighthouse. Depth.
(a.) 3 cables 170 feet, 5° (N. 20° W. mag.) .. 21 feet.
(b.) 5 ,, 60 ,, 48° (N. 23° E. mag.) .. 30 ,,
(c.) 6 ,, 400 ,, 73° (N. 48° E. mag.) .. 30 ,,
(d.) 3 ,, 60 ,, 137° (S. 68° E. mag.) .. 33 ,, (rock).
