FRANCE.

NORTH COAST.—SNOW BANK AND OUTER RUYTINGEN SHOAL.—LIGHT-BUOY AND BUOY RE-ESTABLISHED.

(1.) Snow Bank light-buoy No. 5:
Position.—At a distance of about 2 miles northward from Mardick beacon. Lat. 51° 3′ 45″ N., long. 2° 13′ 10″ E.
Description.—A light-buoy painted black, with cylindrical topmark, exhibiting a fixed red light.

(2.) Outer Ruytingen Shoal buoy No. 7:
Position.—On south-western extremity of Outer Ruytingen Shoal. Lat. 51° 5′ 30″ N., long. 1° 51′ 38″ E.
Description.—A black spindle buoy with staff and cylinder.

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

NEW YORK.—HUDSON RIVER.—CHARACTERISTICS OF LIGHTS CHANGED.

The following changes have been made in the lights of the Hudson River:—

Coeyman Bar light has been changed to flashing white every 3 seconds—flash 1 second, eclipse 2 seconds—of 55 candle-power. The light is exhibited 28 ft. above the water from a black square pyramidal skeleton tower with white tankhouse.

Approx. position: 42° 28′ 22″ N., 73° 47′ 18″ W.

Nine-mile Tree light has been changed to flashing red every 3 seconds—flash 1 second, eclipse 2 seconds—of 15 candle-power.

The light is exhibited 24 ft. above the water from a red square pyramidal skeleton tower with white tankhouse.

Approx. position: 42° 31′ 5″ N., 73° 45′ 55″ W.

Van Wies Point Dike light has been changed to flashing white every 3 seconds—flash 1 second, eclipse 2 seconds—of 55 candle-power.

The light is exhibited 26 ft. above the water from a red square pyramidal skeleton tower with white tankhouse.

Approx. position: 42° 34′ 20″ N., 73° 45′ 5″ W.

WEST INDIES.

HONDURAS.—UTILA ISLAND.—LIGHT DESTROYED.

Position.—On summit of Utila Island. Lat. 16° 7′ N., long. 86° 55′ W.

Details.—The fixed white light formerly exhibited in the above position has been destroyed.

Note.—A note “Destroyed (1919)” is to be placed on the charts against this light.

JAPAN.

INLAND SEA.—BUOY REMOORED.

Notice is hereby given that the Hakata-seto buoy, S. of Wanwan-se, N.E. of Hakata-Jima, Hakata-seto, Inland Sea, which had drifted from its moorings, has been remoored in its proper position.

N.W. COAST OF HONSHU.—NEW LIGHT TO BE SHOWN.

Notice is hereby given that a new lighthouse has been established on Hajiki-Zaki, Province of Sado, and will be shown as follows after the 1st of December, 1919:—

Hajiki-Zaki Lighthouse.

Position.—Lat. 38° 19′ 57″ N., long. 138° 30′ 45″ E. (according to the Japanese Admiralty Chart No. 122).

Description.—Octagonal concrete tower, white.

Height of Light.—55 shaku above the base, 242 shaku above the water.

Character of Light.—Fourth-order group flashing white, showing a triple flash in quick succession during 12 seconds, followed by an eclipse of 18 seconds.

Illuminated Arc.—An arc 266°, from S. 83° E., through S., W., and N., to N. 3° E., between the bearings of S. 80° 10′ E. and S. 77° 20′ E., the light may be obstructed by the summit of Futatsugame-Yama (magnetic bearings taken from the sea).

Power.—2,000 candles.

Visible Distance.—22½ nautical miles in clear night.

S. COAST OF HOKKAIDO.

Fog-siren established.

Notice is hereby given that a fog-siren has been established in the premises of Chikiu-misaki Lighthouse, outside of Mororan Harbour, Hokkaido, which is under construction. It will, during thick or foggy weather, give blasts of 4 seconds’ duration, separated by silent intervals of 60 seconds, after the 1st December, 1919, thus—blast 4 secs., silent interval 60 secs.; blast 4 secs., silent interval 60 secs.

Note.—The position of Chikiu-misaki Lighthouse is lat. 42° 18′ 7″ N., long. 140° 59′ 46″ E. (according to the Japanese Admiralty Chart No. 14).

CHINA.

ALTERATION IN EXPLOSIVE FOG-SIGNAL AT WAGLAN ISLAND.

Commencing from 1st January, 1920, the interval between successive pairs of explosions will be reduced from 12 minutes to 5 minutes, and that between the explosions of each pair from 15 seconds to 5 seconds.

VICTORIA.

TORTOISE HEAD LIGHT.—WESTERN PORT.

Mariners and others are hereby notified that on and after Monday, 15th December, 1919, the flashing light exhibited from Tortoise Head, Western Port, will have the following characteristics:—

Red between the bearings of N. 51° 24′ E. and N. 52° 40′ E.;

White between the bearings of N. 52° 40′ E. and N. 54° 10′ E.; and

Red between the bearings of N. 54° 10′ E. and N. 55° 24′ E.

The light will show a short flash, followed by an eclipse of 5 seconds.

When navigating the western entrance to Western Port mariners should be careful to keep within the full beam of white light, as the red sectors on either side of the white light indicate proximity to the shoal waters of the middle bank to the north, or the shallow foul ground of McHaffie’s Reef to the south.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA.

ST. VINCENT GULF.—PORT ADELAIDE RIVER APPROACH.—ALTERATIONS IN LIGHTS ON LIGHT-BUOYS.

(1.) Position.—Marking the 4-fathom patch. Lat. 34° 48½′ S., long. 138° 25¾′ E.

New Abridged Description.—Lt. fl., red.

Alteration.—The occulting red light on this light-buoy has been replaced by a flashing red light every 4 seconds.

(2.) Position.—Marking outer end of entrance channel. Lat. 34° 47½′ S., long. 138° 26¾′ E.

New Abridged Description.—Lt. fl., gn.

Alteration.—The fixed green light on this light-buoy has been replaced by a flashing green light every 4 seconds.

(3.) Position.—Marking south side of entrance channel. Lat. 34° 47½′ S., long. 138° 27¼′ E.

New Abridged Description.—Lt. fl.

Alteration.—The occulting white light on this light-buoy has been replaced by a flashing white light every 4 seconds.

(4.) Position.—On north side of channel, marking bend in channel. Lat. 34° 47¼′ S., long. 138° 27¼′ E.

New Abridged Description.—Lt. fl., gn.

Alteration.—The fixed green light on light-buoy No. O G has been replaced by a flashing green light every 2 seconds.

MEDITERRANEAN.

DARDANELLES APPROACH.—IMBROS ISLAND, CAPE KEPHALO.—NEW LIGHT ESTABLISHED.

Position.—On the extreme of Cape Kephalo, in the position of the old lights, which have been destroyed. Lat. 40° 9½′ N., long. 26° 1¼′ E.

New Abridged Description.—Lt. gp. fl. (3), red, ev. 20 secs., vis. 9 m.

Characteristics:—

Character.—A group flashing red light showing three flashes every 20 seconds.

Visibility.—9 miles.

Remarks.—No further details are given.
