IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section three of the Land for Settlements Act, 1908, as amended by section five of the Land Laws Amendment Act, 1919, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby appoint

of Milton, Otago, to be a member of the Otago Local Land Purchase Board, constituted under the Land Laws Amendment Act, 1919, for the period ending the thirty-first day of December, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-two.

Prohibited Telegrams.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this twenty-ninth day of March, 1920.
Present:
THE HONOURABLE SIR WILLIAM FRASER PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by Order in Council dated the twenty-sixth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and fifteen, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the fourth day of February, one thousand nine hundred and fifteen, regulations were made under section one hundred and thirty-three of the Post and Telegraph Act, 1908, as amended by section seven of the Post and Telegraph Amendment Act, 1913, prohibiting the transmission of certain classes of telegrams: And whereas it is expedient to revoke the said regulations, and to make other regulations in lieu thereof:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, and in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on him by the enactments hereinbefore referred to, doth hereby revoke the regulations aforesaid, and in lieu thereof doth hereby make the regulations set forth in the Schedule hereto; and doth hereby declare that the regulations hereby made shall come into force on the date of the publication of this Order in Council in the Gazette.
SCHEDULE.
PROHIBITED TELEGRAMS.
- THE transmission of telegrams of the following nature or character is hereby prohibited:—
(a.) Telegrams which are indecently or obscenely worded, or which appear to contain matter of a treasonable, seditious, libellous, or grossly offensive character.
(b.) Telegrams in plain language relating to betting or to investments on the totalisator, or in coded language reasonably supposed to relate to betting or to investments on the totalisator.
(c.) Money-order telegrams addressed to a racing club, or to a secretary or other officer, agent, or servant of a racing club, relating to investments on the totalisator.
(d.) Any money-order telegram addressed to any person who has been convicted in a Court of law under the Gaming Act, 1908, or any amendment thereof, of any offence relating to betting or to investments on the totalisator.
(e.) Telegrams relating to Customs duties during any period for which the transmission thereof is prohibited by the Minister of Telegraphs.
(f.) Telegrams instigating or aiding the commission of any criminal offence or fraud.
- The Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department is hereby authorized to determine whether any telegram comes within the definition given in paragraph (a) of the last preceding regulation, and in the case of any other telegram the officer for the time being in charge of the telegraph-office at which that telegram is presented for transmission is hereby authorized to determine whether it comes within any of the other definitions contained in the last preceding regulation.

Regulation under Section 8 of the Coroners Amendment Act, 1908.

At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this twenty-ninth day of March, 1920.
Present:
THE HONOURABLE SIR WILLIAM FRASER PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.
IN pursuance and exercise of the power vested in him by section eight of the Coroners Amendment Act, 1908, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby revoke the regulations made on the twenty-fourth day of February, one thousand nine hundred and nine, prescribing the scale of expenses that may be paid to witnesses other than medical witnesses for attendance at Coroners’ inquests; and doth hereby make the following regulation in lieu thereof; and doth hereby declare that such regulation shall take effect on and from the eighth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and twenty.
REGULATION.
THE scale of expenses that may be paid to witnesses other than medical witnesses for attendance at Coroners’ inquests shall be as follows, viz.:—
For every day’s attendance at an inquest, or s. d.
necessary absence from usual place of abode.. 10 0
And, in addition thereto, for every night’s necessary absence from such place of abode .. 4 0

Fixing Fees under the Coroners Act, 1908.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this twenty-ninth day of March, 1920.
Present:
THE HONOURABLE SIR WILLIAM FRASER PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by the twenty-first section of the Coroners Act, 1908 (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), it is provided that in respect of every inquest there shall be paid to the Coroner holding the same, and to the person employed to summon the jury (not being a paid servant of the Government), such sums as the Governor in Council from time to time appoints, but not exceeding in respect of any matter mentioned in the Second Schedule to the said Act the amount specified to be payable in such Schedule:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby order and appoint that there shall be paid in respect of all inquests held on and after the date whereon this Order in Council comes into force the fees specified in the Schedule hereto: Provided that, the actual travelling expenses of a Coroner incurred in holding an inquest may be paid in lieu of mileage fees in any case, at the discretion of the Minister of Justice: Provided also that in any case where exceptional circumstances render it desirable that any of the fees specified in the Schedule hereto shall be exceeded in any particular, the Minister of Justice may allow such additional fee as may appear to him to be reasonable. And, with the like advice and consent, His Excellency the Governor-General doth hereby order that this Order in Council shall come into force and take effect on and after the publication hereof in the New Zealand Gazette.
SCHEDULE.
To the Coroner or Justice of the Peace, other than a salaried Stipendiary Magistrate, holding any inquest: For every inquest .. .. .. £ s. d.
