Amending Regulations made by the Public Service Commissioner with respect to Examining Officers of the Customs Department.

IN pursuance and exercise of the authority conferred on him by the Public Service Act, 1912, the Public Service Commissioner, with the approval of the Governor-General in Council, doth hereby revoke the regulations with respect to Examining Officers of the Customs Department made on the seventeenth day of October, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the twenty-fifth day of October, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen, and doth hereby make the regulations hereinafter set forth in lieu thereof.

Such regulations shall have effect on and from the date of publication thereof in the New Zealand Gazette.

SCHEDULE.

THE maximum number of Examining Officers in the Customs Department shall be fifty-five (55), and, subject as hereinafter provided, the maximum number in each class shall be as follows :β€”

In Class IV . . . . Six.
In Class V . . . . Twenty-eight
In Class VI . . . . Twenty-one.

Provided that where an Examining Officer, being eligible for promotion beyond Class VI, has for at least one year been receiving the maximum salary for Class VI, and the Permanent Head reports that he is fully qualified by efficiency and experience as an Examining Officer for promotion to Class V, the Commissioner may promote such officer to Class V, notwithstanding that the number of Examining Officers in Class V may thereby be increased beyond twenty-eight, but such promotion shall not be deemed to cause a vacancy in Class VI :

Provided also that where an Examining Officer has for at least two years been receiving the maximum salary for Class V, and the Permanent Head reports that he is fully qualified by efficiency and experience as an Examining Officer for promotion to Class IV, the Commissioner may promote such officer to Class IV, notwithstanding that the number of Examining Officers in Class IV may thereby be increased beyond six, but such promotion shall not be deemed to cause a vacancy in Class V.
