Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

Wellington, 21st December, 1920.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Council of the Borough of Cromwell, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

CROMWELL BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of ratepayers of the Borough of Cromwell taken on this 8th day of December, 1920, on the proposal of the Cromwell Borough Council to borrow the sum of £1,200 for the purpose of piping the Mount Pisa water across McFelin’s Gully for the borough supply, the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 30, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 1.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

BOROUGH OF DEVONPORT.

Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan of £120,000.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Devonport taken on the 8th day of December, 1920, on the proposal of the Devonport Borough Council to borrow the sum of £120,000 for the purpose of streets improvements, &c., the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 747, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 388.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Results of Polls for Proposed Loans.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Council of the Borough of Invercargill, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

BOROUGH OF INVERCARGILL.

I HEREBY give notice that on Wednesday, the 1st day of December, 1920, separate polls were taken upon proposals of the Invercargill Borough Council to raise special loans as hereunder stated, and that the number of votes recorded for and against the respective proposals was as hereunder set out:—

£25,000 for additions and improvements to tramways: For the proposal, 771; against the proposal, 683.

£50,000 for additions and improvements to electric light and power works: For the proposal, 835; against the proposal, 619.

£50,000 for completing the sanitary drainage and sewerage works throughout the whole borough: For the proposal, 948; against the proposal, 520.

£1,500 for reclamation works: For the proposal, 769; against the proposal, 678.

I therefore declare the proposals in respect of all the foregoing loans to be carried.

£15,000 for a permanent memorial of the war with Germany: For the proposal, 440; against the proposal, 994.

£80,000 for improvements to streets and roads: For the proposal, 662; against the proposal, 781.

£25,000 for additions, alterations, and improvements to gasworks: For the proposal, 705; against the proposal, 742.

I therefore declare the proposals in respect of the three last-mentioned loans to be rejected.

Alterations to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in Force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.

IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under the Government Railways Act, 1908, and its amendments, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Railways, do hereby make the following alterations in the scale of fares, rates, and charges in force on the New Zealand Government railways open for traffic, such alterations to come into force on and after the 1st day of January, 1921.

For all goods of classes E and F not taken delivery of by the consignees within five working-hours after arrival, and, at the option of the Department, kept in the railway wagons or unloaded and stored at the risk of the owner, and for stacking in shed and delivery to the ship, including storage thereon, for the first week or fraction of a week, at per ton .. .. 6 0

Approval of Fees for Licensing of Vehicles fixed by By-law.

IT is hereby notified, in accordance with section 107 of the Counties Act, 1908, that so much of the by-law made by the County Councils set out in the Schedule hereto, on the dates set opposite their respective names, as provides for the fees to be paid to the county funds for the licensing of vehicles plying for hire, has this day been approved by His Excellency the Governor-General.
