Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Watchmakers' and Jewellers' Shops in the Borough of Timaru, under the Shops and Offices Act, 1908.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) watchmaker and (2) jeweller in the Borough of Timaru, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Subject to the closing at not later than 1 p.m. on the day observed as the statutory closing-day, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 5.30 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) should the occupier of any shop bound by the provisions of this requisition observe, pursuant to the provisions of section 19 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, any of the special days therein mentioned other than Thursday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Thursday for any such shop shall be 5.30 p.m.; (2) the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day, when the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m.; (3) the Saturday immediately preceding Christmas Day and the Saturday immediately preceding New Year’s Day, when the closing-hour shall be 10 p.m.:
And whereas the Timaru Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) watchmaker and (2) jeweller within the Borough of Timaru:
Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Acting Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 14th day of August, 1919, all the shops in each of the trades of (1) watchmaker and (2) jeweller in the Borough of Timaru shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Subject to the closing at not later than 1 p.m. on the day observed as the statutory closing-day, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 5.30 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) should the occupier of any shop bound by the provisions of this requisition observe, pursuant to the provisions of section 19 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, any of the special days therein mentioned other than Thursday as the statutory closing-day in any week, then and in such case the closing-hour on Thursday for any such shop in that week shall be 5.30 p.m.; (2) the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day, when the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m.; (3) the Saturday immediately preceding Christmas Day and the Saturday immediately preceding New Year’s Day, when the closing-hour shall, subject to the exception (2) hereof, be 10 p.m.
The notice gazetted on the 3rd day of September, 1914, fixing the closing-hours of watchmakers’ and jewellers’ shops in the Borough of Timaru is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.
