County Employees’ Accommodation Loan.

In the matter of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, the Local Elections and Polls Act, 1908, and the Counties Act, 1908, and respective amendments.

NOTICE is hereby given that a poll of the ratepayers of the County of Kiwitea was taken on Tuesday, the 8th day of July, 1919, on the proposal to borrow £10,000 to purchase land and erect homes thereon, when the following votes were recorded: For the proposal, 219; against the proposal, 172; informal, 4.

As the number of votes recorded in favour of the proposal does not represent three-fifths of the valid votes polled, I therefore declare the proposal rejected.

Notice to Mariners.—No. 42 of 1919.

ADMIRALTY INSTRUCTIONS re PASSING DOVER STRAITS, ENGLAND.

Wellington, N.Z., 22nd July, 1919.

THE following cable message has been received from the Admiralty, London, and is now issued for general information:—

“On and after 28th July, 1919, vessels proceeding through Dover Straits will no longer be boarded in the Downs for issue of route instructions unless they ask for them.

“Vessels entering North Sea and wishing to obtain latest mine-warnings must then pass through Downs, and by day fly flag “Y” of the International Code, and by night flash letter “Y” by Morse code till attended to by boarding-vessel, which should be closed in on. Boarding-vessel exhibits by day three black balls horizontal, by night three red lights horizontal.”

THE following Notices to Mariners, which have been received from the Hydrographic Office, London, and the Department of Trade and Customs, Melbourne, are published for general information.

AUSTRALIA.

SOUTH COAST, BASS STRAIT.—POINT LONSDALE LIGHT.—INTENDED ALTERATION IN CHARACTER.

MARINERS and others are hereby notified that the occulting light with white and red sectors on Point Lonsdale will be replaced by a group flashing light with white and red sectors on or about 15th September, 1919.

Position.—On the west side of entrance to Port Phillip, Lat. 38° 17½′ S., long. 144° 36¾′ E., on Chart No. 1171.

Details.—The occulting light every fifteen seconds, with white and red sectors, will be replaced by a new light having the undermentioned characteristics:—

Character.—Group flashing light with white and red sectors, showing two flashes in quick succession every six seconds, thus—flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 4½ secs.

Power.—White, 4,000 candles; red, 1,500 candles.

Remarks.—The light will be unwatched, but the signal-station will be continued as heretofore. The other details of the light will remain unchanged.

Note.—No further notice will be given.

EAGLE NEST POINT (SPLIT POINT).—INTENDED ALTERATION IN CHARACTER.—AUXILIARY WHITE LIGHT TO BE DISCONTINUED.

Mariners and others are hereby notified that the fixed red light with white sectors on Eagle Nest Point (Split Point) will be replaced by a group flashing white light with red sectors; and, further, that the auxiliary white light will be discontinued on or about 1st October, 1919.

Position.—Lat. 38° 28′ S., long. 144° 6½′ E., on Chart No. 1695B.

Details.—The fixed red light with white sectors will be replaced by a new light having the undermentioned characteristics:—

Character.—Group flashing white light with red sectors, showing four flashes in quick succession every twelve seconds, thus—flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 7½ secs.

Sectors.—Red from 233° (S. 45° W. mag.) to 249° (S. 61° W. mag.); white from 249° (S. 61° W. mag.) to 39° (N. 31° E. mag.); red from 39° (N. 31° E. mag.) to 48° (N. 40° E. mag); obscured elsewhere.

Visibility.—White, 20 miles; red, 9 miles.

Power.—White, 7,000 candles; red, 3,000 candles.

Auxiliary Light.—The auxiliary fixed white light will be discontinued on or about 1st October, 1919.

Remarks.—The light will be unwatched. The signal-station will be discontinued, and the lightkeepers withdrawn. The other details of the light will remain unchanged.

Note.—No further notice will be given.


CANADA.

NOVA SCOTIA.—BAY OF FUNDY.—LURCHER SHOAL LIGHT-VESSEL TO BE TEMPORARILY REPLACED BY LIGHT-BUOY.

Date of Alteration.—On or about 15th July, 1919.

Position.—South-westward of Lurcher Shoal. Lat. 43° 48¼′ N., long. 66° 32′ W.

Details.—The light-vessel will be temporarily replaced by a light-buoy painted red, exhibiting an occulting white light.

Remarks.—The light-vessel will be replaced on her station after a period of about four weeks from the above date, of which further notice will be given.


JAPAN.

INLAND SEA.—SHIMONOSEKI APPROACH.—GANYU JIMA LIGHTHOUSE.—WRECK NORTH-EASTWARD OF.

Position.—At a distance of 2½ cables, 60° (N. 65° E. mag.), from Ganyu Jima Lighthouse. Lat. 33° 56¼′ N., long. 130° 56′ E.

Description.—Sunken wreck of the s.s. “Fusa Maru,” with mastheads visible above water.

Variation.—5° W.

NORTH ATLANTIC MINE-FIELD ZONE CLEARED.

The North Atlantic zone is now clear of mines, and all restrictions have been removed. Mine Warnings Nos. 90 and 195 are cancelled.

Notice by the Public Trustee under the Public Trust Office Act, 1908 (Part II), and its Amendments.

To the owner of the following land—that is to say: All that parcel of land in the Provincial District of Wellington, containing 2 acres, more or less, being part Suburban Section 1, Small-farm Settlement of Greytown. Bounded on the south by public road leading from main road through Greytown-Kuratawhiti Plain and Matarawa, two chains; on the north by Suburban Section 42, two chains; on the east by other part of Section 1, ten chains; on the west by other part of Section 1, ten chains; the eastern boundary being two chains from the eastern boundary of Section 1, and from a back road dividing said section from town section of the said Town of Greytown; and being all the land described in Conveyance 12620, from Henry Thomas Spratt to John Henry Roberts and William George Roberts, of Greytown, settlers.

WHEREAS the Public Trustee has instituted inquiries and has been unable to find the whereabouts of the owners of the above-described land or any agent of such owners in New Zealand:

Now, the Public Trustee hereby calls upon such owners, within six months of the date of the publication of this notice in this Gazette, to establish to the satisfaction of the Public Trustee their title to the said land; and if they fail or neglect so to do, the Public Trustee will exercise the powers and authorities granted to him in and by the Public Trust Office Act, 1908 (Part II), and its amendments.
