each year the closing-hour on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednes-
days, and Thursdays shall be 8 p.m., and the closing-hour
on Fridays and Saturdays shall be 11 p.m. :
And whereas the Petone Borough Council has certified
that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority
of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of
(1) fruiterer and (2) greengrocer within the Borough of Petone :
Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Acting Minister
of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and
Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the
16th day of July, 1919, all the shops in each of the trades
of (1) fruiterer and (2) greengrocer in the Borough of Petone
shall be closed accordingly.

Permit to import Opium.

IT is hereby notified, for public information, that a permit
to import opium in forms which though not suitable
for smoking may be made suitable has been granted to the
undermentioned Board, subject to the provisions of the
Opium Act, 1908, the Opium Amendment Act, 1910, and
the regulations made thereunder:

Articles prohibited to be imported into the United Kingdom.

IT is hereby notified, for public information, that a Pro-
clamation has been issued by the Imperial Government
prohibiting the importation into the United Kingdom, except
under license of the Board of Trade, of the undermentioned
goods :--
Chemicals of all descriptions.
Electrical goods, including electrical plant and ma-
chinery of all kinds and insulating materials of all
descriptions.
Scientific, mathematical, and optical instruments.
Tungsten powder and ferro-tungsten.
Application for licenses are to be addressed to the Con-
troller, Department of Import Restrictions, 22 Carlisle Place,
Westminster, London, S.W. 1.

Regulations under the Distillation Act, 1908.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
in me for this purpose vested by sections 10 and 118
of the Distillation Act, 1908, and of all other powers and
authorities enabling me in this behalf, I, Arthur Mielziner
Myers, Minister of Customs, do hereby make the following
regulations under the Distillation Act, 1908.
REGULATIONS.

  1. No person to whom a permit or license to keep and use
    a still has been issued under sections 10 and 118 of the
    Distillation Act, 1908, shall make, or permit to be made, any
    alteration in or addition to such still without the permission
    of the Chief Inspector of Distilleries.
  2. Every still for which a permit or license has been issued
    as aforesaid, and the premises upon which it shall be used,
    shall at all times be open to the inspection of an officer of
    Customs, or other person deputed for the purpose by an
    Inspector of Distilleries.
  3. Every still licensed as aforesaid, which is to be used for
    the distillation of ethers or chemical compounds of which
    spirits form a part, shall, when not in use, be kept under the
    Crown lock, or shall be otherwise secured to the satisfaction
    of an Inspector.
  4. No person shall, without the permission of an Inspector
    or of an officer of Customs, remove any lock or break any
    seal, or remove or in any way interfere with any device or
    means adopted for the security of any still licensed as afore-
    said.
  5. Every person to whom a license to keep and use a still
    has been issued as aforesaid shall include in the bond to be
    entered into by him under section 11 of the Distillation Act,
    1908, a condition that these regulations shall be complied
    with so far as they apply to the still which such person has
    been licensed to keep.
  6. Notwithstanding anything in the foregoing regulations,
    the Chief Inspector of Distilleries may exempt any person
    holding a license as aforesaid under the Distillation Act, 1908,
    from any provision of such regulations.

    Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

    THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the
    Council of the County of Waipa, is published in accordance
    with the provisions of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913.

    WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.
    PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913,
    I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the
    Newcastle Riding of the County of Waipa taken on the
    26th day of June, 1919, on the proposal of the Waipa County
    Council to borrow the sum of £16,000 for metalling roads in
    the Newcastle Riding for the first time, the number of votes
    recorded for the proposal was 89, and the number of votes
    recorded against the proposal was 18.
    I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.
