Redefining Limits of Whakatane Harbour.

LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority in me vested by the sixth section of the Harbours Act, 1908, I. Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, P.C., G.C.M.G., M.V.O., the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby revoke the existing limits of the Harbour of Whakatane, and do hereby define the limits of the said harbour to beβ€”

All that area in the Bay of Plenty commencing at a point on the sea-coast at ordinary high-water mark of the Bay of Plenty, being the left bank at the mouth of the Tarawera River outlet; thence by a straight line for a distance of one mile to seaward; thence by a straight line to the westernmost point of Whale Island; thence by ordinary high-water mark along the southern coast-line of the said island to its easternmost point; thence by a straight line to a point on the sea-coast at ordinary high-water mark of the Bay of Plenty, being the western side of the road from Whakatane to Ohiwa Beach; thence north and westerly by ordinary high-water mark of the Bay of Plenty along the sea-coast to the right bank of the Whakatane River; thence by ordinary high-water mark of the said river to the outer face of the down-stream side of the reinforced-concrete bridge over the said river (on the main road between Whakatane and Te Teko); thence by the said bridge to the left bank of the said river; thence along the left bank by ordinary high-water mark of the said river, and the sea-coast by ordinary high-water mark of the Bay of Plenty, to the right bank of the Rangitaiki River outlet; thence by ordinary high-water mark of the said river-outlet to the bridge over the said Rangitaiki River outlet on the main road from Matata to Whakatane; thence by the said bridge to the left bank of the said Rangitaiki River outlet; thence along the left bank by ordinary high-water mark of the said river-outlet and the sea-coast by ordinary high-water mark of the Bay of Plenty, to the right bank of the Tarawera River outlet; thence by the said right bank to the ferry-crossing ; thence by a straight line drawn at right angles across the said Tarawera River to its left bank; thence by the said left bank to the point of commencement : the hereinbeforementioned line of ordinary high-water mark shall be deemed to cross the mouths of any tributaries of the said Whakatane River. As the same is delineated on the plan marked M.D. 5053, and thereon bordered red, and deposited in the office of the Marine Department, at Wellington.

Officer authorized to convene Courts-martial and to confirm Findings and Sentences thereof.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by section thirteen of the Defence Amendment Act, 1912, I Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby authorize the undermentioned officer to convene general or district courts-martial for the trial under that Act of such persons subject to military law as are for the time being under or within the territorial limits of his command; and empower such officer to confirm the findings and sentences of general or district courts-martial, whether passed before or after the issue of this Warrant:-

Brigadier-General GEORGE SPAFFORD RICHARDSON, C.B., C.M.G., C.B.E., General Officer in Charge of Administration, New Zealand Military Forces.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the GovernorGeneral, this tenth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and nineteen.

Schemes of Control of Secondary Schools.

Education Department, Wellington, 2nd June, 1919.

IN accordance with the provisions of the Education Act, 1914, and with the powers thereunder, I, Josiah Alfred Hanan, Minister of Education, do hereby, on the advice of the General Council of Education, approve of the following amendment to the clauses of the schemes of control for the secondary schools named in the Schedule hereto:-

Subclause (2) of the provisions of the respective clauses named in the Schedule is hereby deleted, and the following substituted therefor :-

"The programme of each pupil shall be determined by the Principal after consultation with the parents or guardian, but in all cases the programme of each girl shall include adequate instruction in elementary domestic science and hygiene, and in one or more of the domestic arts, extending in general over not less than two years of the secondary course provided. No pupil shall be compelled to take Latin or to take more than one language besides English."

Importation of Goods into the United Kingdom.

Customs Department, Wellington, 16th June, 1919.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the New Zealand Government has been advised that-

  1. All restrictions on the importation into the United Kingdom of goods which are exported from and are the produce or manufacture of British Dominions have been removed, except in the case of-
    (a.) Gold, or articles containing gold, except when consigned direct to the Bank of England;
    (b.) Spirits other than brandy and rum; and
    (c.) Hops.

  2. For the purpose of this concession it has been decided to accept as the produce or manufacture of British Dominions goods which owe at least 75 per cent. of their total value to Dominion or colonial labour and materials.

The notification dated 19th March, 1919, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of 20th March, 1919, is withdrawn.
