conferred upon him respectively by section seven of the Expeditionary Forces Amendment Act, 1918, the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1908, and all other powers and authorities enabling him in that behalf, doth hereby make the following regulations.

REGULATIONS.

  1. In addition and without prejudice to any further bonus which may become payable under section 7 of the Expeditionary Forces Amendment Act, 1918, in pursuance of any Order in Council which may hereafter be made in that behalf, the Minister of Defence may pay out of the War Expenses Account to any officer, non-commissioned officer, or man who has been honourably discharged from an Expeditionary Force after service therein beyond the seas a bonus under section 7 of the Expeditionary Forces Amendment Act, 1918, of an amount not exceeding the amount which might have been paid to him by way of financial assistance under the Financial Assistance Regulations, 1918, in respect of the period of his service in an Expeditionary Force (together with a period not exceeding six months thereafter), if he had made due application therefor in accordance with those regulations prior to his discharge, save that in respect of the period prior to the 30th day of January, 1918, the maximum annual amount which may be so paid shall be £104 and not £156.

  2. No such bonus shall be granted except in pursuance of the recommendation of a Military Service Board in accordance with the Financial Assistance Regulations, 1918, and the jurisdiction of such Boards to hear and determine applications for financial assistance by soldiers of an Expeditionary Force is hereby extended to applications for such bonus by discharged members of an Expeditionary Force accordingly, and all the provisions of those regulations with respect to the grant and disposition of financial assistance shall, subject to these present regulations, extend and apply to the grant and disposition of such bonus accordingly.

  3. Every application for such bonus must be made by the applicant within three months after his return to New Zealand from military service beyond the seas, or in the case of applicants who have already so returned, then within three months after the date of these regulations.

  4. The Financial Assistance Regulations, 1918, are hereby amended by omitting from clause 11 thereof the words “not being more than three months earlier than the date of the application to the Minister for financial assistance and.”

  5. The Financial Assistance Regulations, 1918, are hereby further amended by adding thereto the following clause:—

“8A. On the discharge of any member of an Expeditionary Force for whom financial assistance has been so provided, the like assistance may, if the Minister of Defence thinks fit, be wholly or partially continued in favour of that member for a period not exceeding six months after his discharge.”
