ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House at Wellington, this tenth day of June, 1919.
Present:
His Excellency the Governor-General in Council.
WHEREAS by section seven of the Expeditionary Forces Amendment Act, 1918, it is provided that the Minister of Defence may pay out of the War Expenses Account a bonus to officers, non-commissioned officers, and men who have been honourably discharged from an Expeditionary Force after service therein beyond the seas, and that such bonus shall be determined in accordance with a scale to be prescribed by Order in Council:
And whereas by an Order in Council of the eighteenth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and eighteen, regulations (hereinafter referred to as βthe Financial Assistance Regulations, 1918β) have been made for the grant of financial assistance to soldiers of the Expeditionary Forces for the purpose of enabling them to meet certain financial obligations that would otherwise be a source of undue hardship to such soldiers in respect of their military service, such regulations being in lieu of earlier regulations made to the like effect on the sixteenth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen:
And whereas it is desirable, by way of a bonus under the Expeditionary Forces Amendment Act, 1918, to extend this scheme of financial assistance in certain cases to discharged members of the Expeditionary Forces in respect of the period of their service with such forces:
And whereas it is desirable to amend the Financial Assistance Regulations, 1918, in manner hereinafter appearing:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of that Dominion, and in pursuance of the authority
